The first lesson of Flying had not been as Jake had anticipated with split years, so he had put his classes back together. Hopefully this way there would be more achieved in a lesson. Debating on what to do for the lesson had taken a lot longer than he'd anticipated, but only because he currently had a lot on his mind.

Mostly, however, it was concern about his girlfriend.

Veronika had been sick recently, and hence she had not been able to teach. After a period of sick leave, an extended sick leave to catch up on everything she needed to do, Veronika had been on her way back to teaching the current term when beautiful news had greeted them.

They were expecting their first child.

As of yet, Jake had not told his family, wanting to make sure nothing went wrong in the early days, especially with Veronika having been under the weather, but he was, simply put, glowing with the news. The first day he'd found out, he'd been utterly shocked, as it hadn't exactly been planned for now, but as each day passed, Jake felt more and more happy about the prospect of being a father.

But, the thought was quickly pushed from his head as he set up the Quidditch Pitch for his lesson, trying to keep the smile from his lips so that people wouldn't ask.

Naomi's broom was slung over her shoulder and she was dressed in a comfortable sweater and she was headed to class with Jake; today was a good day. She skipped along happily beside Finley, grinning. The weather was clear and she couldn't have asked for a better day for flying.

The pair of Ravenclaws approached the pitch and the professor and Naomi was just about to call out a greeting when she felt a vision start. She grabbed Finley's arm, trusting him to lead her while she was blind.

A wall, a pale cream color...

Dust motes whirling through a beam of warm sunshine...

Sun, burning in a white-blue sky and the sound of birds in the trees above a meadow...

A flash of short, brown hair and a kind smile that resolved itself into Jake, clearer now that he had appeared in her visions before. Beside him, a flash of longer, darker hair and the high pitched wail of a baby's cry, coming from a blurred patch of light blue. The beautiful picture slipped away as she watched-

-leaving her once again on the Quidditch Pitch, looking at Professor Jake in real life. A grin split her face. He and Professor Hollands were having a baby! Most likely a boy, from the coloring.

"Congratulations on the news, Jake," Naomi piped without preamble, not feeling self-conscious, since there was no one else around to hear. "Professor Hollands and the baby both seemed pretty healthy, which is great!"

Finley had - quite happily - missed the first lesson of Flying under the premise that he was busy with other homework. But now that Professor Newbury had joined the classes back up again, Finley had found it too hard to say no to Naomi, so he hadn't tried to say no.

Walking down to the Quidditch Pitch beside his best friend, Finley was hoping the class wouldn't be too hard this lesson because he was more than certain he wasn't going to do very well at it.

Just as they were about to get close to the professor, however, Naomi held on to him in a manner he knew meant something wasn't right. So, rather than tensing at her touch, Finley moved to support her as much as he could, worry touching his features instantly.

Whatever it was didn't last very long, however, and the moment Naomi came back to, she was talking to Professor Newbury about... a baby... tilting his head, Finley looked to the professor, wondering how that could have happened... It took nine months for...

Finley's eyes went wide a moment later though as he realised what Naomi had just said, looking to Professor Newbury and then blushing at the realisation of what happened for that... well, to happen.

Lux made her way to the quidditch pitch, her day getting better at the thought of being up in the air. Flying was probably her favourite class. The thrill of being high above ground sent adrenaline pumping through her veins. The constant risk of falling and breaking her neck made it better. Not that she'd ever fallen. In fact she made it a point to go higher every time she climbed onto her broom. There was little else that could compare to free-falling.

She could already see three people gathered, two of whom were students. As she approached the group, she thought she hears something about a baby. She didn't hear the whole sentence but definitely the word baby. Why would they be talking about an annoying piece of flesh? Unless...the professor had a baby? Well, not the professor but whomever he was with.

Lux rolled her eyes. She wouldn't congratulate him. Having a baby wasn't something to be happy about. They were nothing but a crying stinking pile of work. She would know, having had to take care of the babies at the orphanage. She greeted the professor politely, said nothing else about a baby and stood to one side impatient for the class to begin.

As two very familiar faces entered the Quidditch Pitch, Jake couldn't help but smile a little warmer. Whilst he knew he shouldn't have favourites, he did, and he couldn't help it. However, his smile wavered a little when he saw Naomi lean in to Finley in more than a joking kind of manner. Moving forward to help, it seemed Naomi had righted herself before he could be of use.

And the words that came from her mouth made Jake's face fall.

Mostly with confusion because he didn't have the slightest idea how she could know about that yet. But then his memory kicked in, out weighing the shock of the situation. A small smile touched his lips as he processed the second part of what Naomi had said, throwing a huge weight off of his mind. "Thank you." Jake murmured in response, putting a finger over his lips in a manner he hoped Naomi would know that it wasn't yet known by the rest of the school.

Another person had arrived, but Jake didn't elaborate on the situation, simply smiling at the new arrival and waiting for more people to turn up.

Once again, Nirek found himself heading outside for lessons. The Gryffindor was excited for Flying, after all it was something he did quite well being one of the Chaser's for his house. He'd missed the commotion from Finley's girlfriend, turning up just after it all had happened.

He noted the girl from Herbology, and seeing as the only other option was the Stutter King and his Queen, Nirek didn't have much choice but to stand by the Slytherin. True, there would be a rivalry because of their houses, but Nirek was popular, and he could pull off an alliance with a snake, of that much he was sure.

"Professor." Nirek greeted the man at the front of the class, wondering how many other people would be heading down for today's lesson. Hopefully not too many, then they were likely to do something a little more fun.

Evelyn had never been on a broom but she read a book about how to fly which was the same thing right? Actually, she hadn't just read books on flying, she literally read books about anything and everything, enjoying whatever was written on the pages in between the two covers. If anyone ever actually thought about it, the girl was the stereotype of a typical Ravenclaw.

As she walked out onto the Quidditch Pitch that was now, covered in snow, she mumbled a bit about how all the classes seemed to mostly take place outdoors. As her winter coat flapped behind her in the slight wind, feelings of anxiety rose among her. She wasn't one for trying new things, especially something as dangerous as flying. She could fall and hurt herself or even worse, die.

Like her other classes, she greeted her professor before she turned and went to stand near the back of the class. Several other students were there, but none of them seemed like first years, which didn't help her small feeling of anxiety.

As a couple more students arrived to class, Jake smiled in their direction. At least one of the students was new, but he was happy to have people of different abilities in his class.

Seeing as it didn't look like anyone else would be attending his class, Jake decided to get on with the lesson. "Good morning everyone, I hope you're all doing well?" Jake posed the question, though it was rhetorical because there wasn't time for an individual answer.

"Today, we will be doing... well, whatever you feel you need help with. As everyone is of a mixed ability, I would like you to tell me what you need help with, and I will teach you how to do it. Or, if you think you're good enough already, I'll show you how you can improve. Remember, I've played professionally, so I know a lot about Quidditch, and flying. Bring me any technique, and I'll show you how to do it." Jake insisted, before remembering. "If you haven't got your own broom, please collect one from the shed. Once you're ready, come and talk to me and I'll get you started on how to do what you want to know."

Lux grinned as the professor said that he would be teaching them anything they needed help with. She had been expecting a set lesson but this was way better than she expected. The one thing she wanted to learn and improve was doing tricks in the air. She'd tried a couple of times to do loops and tight zigzags but couldn't get them quite right, especially the loops. She could get relatively high and fast but once she reached the peak of the loop, she couldn't come round to make a full perfect circle.

Lux's main concern was that doing tricks were...well, trivial and not quite necessary, but it was something Lux wanted to do for the thrill and excitement. Not knowing if she should ask the professor about it, she took her time with her broom before deciding she should just ask. The worst he could do was say no, right? And he did say to bring him any technique.

Raising her hand and approaching him, she posed her question in as polite a tone as she could manage. "Sir, I'd like to learn to do a few tricks like loops and zigzags. Would that be alright?" She would be disappointed if he said no but she would also understand. If he did reject her request it would simply mean more hours of practice for her.

When the first person stepped forward, Jake gave the witch a warm smile, hoping to be encouraging towards the Slytherin so that she felt comfortable. Especially seeing as she was new to his class.

Her query made Jake smile, nodding as she explained what she wanted to try. "No problem!" Jake replied, grinning a little because this was an interesting choice of topic for the evening. "But, you don't need to call me sir, Jake will suffice." The professor insisted, summoning his own broom from the ground.

Mounting up, but not taking off, Jake made sure the Slytherin was watching. "When you're at a good height - to begin with, I would suggest the height of the Quidditch hoops, to be safe - you need to get your broom level." Jake explained, showing her with his broom flat, parallel to the ground. "You will need speed, so lie yourself flat to your broom, and for a good... ten meters, gain as much speed as you can."

As he spoke, Jake showed the witch, not moving, but showing the different positions she should take on to be successful. "Then, once you're at a good speed, you nee to pull back, lock your arms straight, hold tight to the broom, and lean back as much as you can. Your speed will keep the momentum going, your weight - I'm not being rude - will pull you around the circle. You need to keep your arms locked until you're just over three quarters of the way around the loop, then you need to flatten yourself to the broom for the final pull round to finish the loop."

The professor smiled towards the Slytherin. "Does that make sense? I can try the first one with you, if you would like, talk you through it?"

OOC: You may GM Jake doing the loop with Lux if you would like to, but it is not a necessity. He will call out the main points, i.e. "Keep yourself flat... Hold it... Hold it... Pull back!" throughout the flight.

If Lux wants to try it on her own, that is also fine!

But most of all, have fun with it!
