| Naomi slid up to the back of the group just as the professor started the lesson. She sighed in relief that she wasn't late; she was disappointed that she had missed the first lesson and she hadn't wanted to miss this one too. She cursed her tendency to get lost in books, the reason she had missed the first class.
As Naomi watched the smoke trail weaving its way around the pitch, she thought the move looked clever, if incredibly dangerous. She liked both flying and heights, though she had never seen a Quidditch game in her life, and she'd like to test out a move like that. She paid close attention as a Gryffindor girl who she remembered from the Sorting blurted out the answer at a mile a minute. Wronski Feint... She made a mental note to look it up later and read the history of the move. Fidgeting slightly, she stared at the smoke trail, eager to try it out. |

| The first answer that came brought a smile to Jake's lips almost in an instant. The enthusiasm of the Gryffindor was quite something, not to mention the knowledge of the move was quite something. Though anyone who knew Quidditch would probably know this move, if he was honest.
"Every part of that is correct, Felix." Jake replied with a warm smile to the witch. "Take five points for your vast knowledge." He added a moment later, just before she broke out in to pleas of doing something. For a moment, Jake was transported back to the time when Victoria had been around the same age as the first year, and the enthusiasm that had radiated from her at the time.
Jake, however, didn't have time to answer her question in that moment.
"What! we are going to do a move which can potentially kill us!"
Shaking his head, Jake turned his attention to the boy who'd spoken. "You don't have to do anything you don't want to, Rhys, no." Jake told the boy with a small reassuring smile. "The younger years will start on a basic course." He added, flicking his wand once more and watching as a second set of hoops appeared, lower to the ground, but working on the same movement. "Also, I am on hand, so nobody will hurt himself, that's what the crash mats are for." Jake explained, knowing it was the best route forward.
Turning his attention back to Felix, Jake smiled. "You may go first on the easier course, and then when I can see you can do it, you're welcome to try the harder one." He told her.

| Naomi had flown before, but not often. She loved the feeling and she knew how to handle a broom, but complicated moves like this were a different story. She took a moment to study the route she would have to take, running through the moves in her mind before mounting up. The broom rose easily into the air and she started off along her set course at a steady pace, though she gained speed as she went along. There was almost a mishap when she took a turn around a post a little too sharply, but she corrected herself before she could smash into the next one, wobbling a bit on the broom as she pulled herself back into balance.
Gaining altitude steadily, she approached the lower of the two peaks. Reaching the crest, she guided her broom into a dive. Even with her love of heights, the sight of the ground rushing towards her was unnerving and she pulled out of the dive higher than she should have, though not so high that she was embarrassed to do it. Smiling a little, she returned to her place on the sidelines, proud of her first attempt. "How'd I do, Professor?" she asked quietly. |

| Finley had stood quietly whilst the class started, hugging himself to keep warm. The moment the professor had unveiled the course that they would be attempting, Finley felt sick. How could the professor think that he was capable of doing that, he couldn't fly very well...
"What! we are going to do a move which can potentially kill us!"
Dizziness hit Finley in that moment, he didn't want to die. He really didn't. He had so many things he wanted to do, dying now wasn't an option. Feeling a little bit wobbly, Finley tried to focus on the professor, who'd just shown off a smaller course. Finley let out a sigh of relief. Yes, it would still be so very hard for him, but at least it wasn't the bigger course.
Finley could only watch in amazement as Naomi took off to try the course first. In any other world, in Finley's opinion, Naomi could have been a Gryffindor. Taking that on was impressive! Hurrying over to one of the school brooms, Finley started with the summoning. It took him three attempts to get the broom in to his hand, and after mounting it very carefully, the Ravenclaw pushed forward. His flying style was bursts of movement, because he always felt he was going way too fast and would pull back. The broom would stop, and he'd have to start again.
It took Finley a good five minutes to get halfway around the course, but it seemed he was slowly getting there with his confidence. Moving further each time. However, when he round the last corner, Finley grew nervous. Looking to the professor, Finley wondered if this was truly safe for them to be trying. But a moment later he assured himself that the professor wouldn't do anything that wasn't safe, so following the trail, Finley leant forward in to the dive.
However, the Ravenclaw leant too far forward, much too quickly, and the broom nosedived so quickly he lost his grip on the broom and went hurtling to the ground before it. Thankfully, he'd only been ten feet up, and the huge cushions broke his fall. Nothing had been broken, but Finley led in the cushion getting his breath back. With a small chuckle, the Ravenclaw grabbed the school broom and hurried back to the professor.
"T-that was a-awesome!" He insisted, eyes alight with excitement. Okay, so he hadn't actually managed to do the move, but it had been fun! |

| The first two students to go came as something of a surprise to Jake, not really thinking that the younger years would be the first to go. Though, of course, Jake would not knock their enthusiasm because it was amazing to see. Watching the two have a go - subtly slipping his wand from his sleeve - Jake was quite impressed, Naomi seemed to be quite talented on the broom, and Finley, well, the boy was improving very much, though there was still room for improvement.
"How'd I do, Professor?"
As Naomi completed the course successfully, Jake smiled warmly in her direction. "Absolutely amazing for your first go!" Jake insisted, making sure to encourage the witch. "It's always better to pull up too early than too late! You can try again if yo-"
Jake paused, cringing as Finley hit the crash mat. Well, the boy hadn't been anything short of brave, that was for sure. But it seemed the older Ravenclaw was fine as he came over and expressed his enjoyment of the task despite not getting the move correctly. "Well done, Finley." Jake encouraged the boy, still smiling. "You can both try again, if you would like to." Jake added, finishing the sentence he'd been trying to get out a moment earlier.
