| Mackenzie had spent most of the Summer Holiday at the Daily Prophet, running a journalism camp for young writers. She'd assumed that it would be a bit odd, returning back to the business after resigning almost a year ago, but she found that the space hadn't changed much. A hundred or so men and women, all unknowingly the same person, rushed around the office trying to be the first to be assigned an exciting story. The only names that deserved to be known were the names of those who did get the exciting stories.
Mackenzie had never been one of those people. She'd always been given the fluff pieces; "Taylor Swift: Muggle Superstar or Wizarding Legend?" "Is black the new black?" or, her personal favourite, "Why Some May Say That All News is Fake News." (This last one had never been published, but she was sure that it was her best work). Because of the pieces she'd written; because of how little they'd mattered, none of the office clones had ever known her name.
But they knew it now.
Since she'd begun teaching at Hogwarts, the Profit had contacted her saying that they needed someone who was reputable good with children, preferably someone who had worked with the Profit before. Not willing to hold a grudge, she'd told them of course she would help them. She'd enjoyed showing children how to properly word an article or how to find a source. It had felt like a way for her to teach outside of Hogwarts.
But it had also reminded her how much she missed teaching at Hogwarts.
The Care of Magical Creatures teacher currently stood on the edge of the Black Lake. Set before her were a golden egg, made of some sort of metal most likely, and a bowl of water. While the egg itself was not a creature, it did have something to do with what they would be studying today.
In a way, this would be both a CoMC lesson and a History lesson. The crossover hadn't been intentional, but sometimes she could not help but dive deep down into the depths of a subject.
She smiled lightly as students began to arrive, hoping that they would appreciate what she would bring to this lesson. |

| Cora raced across the grounds towards the black lake, her hair and robe billowing out behind her in the wind. In her arms she clutched several large tomes on various magical creatures and beasts - most of which were not from the official class reading lists but were from her large personal collection that she had studied over the years - most passionately over the last summer. She had waited 2 years for the time that she could attend Care of Magical Creatures officially and now that time had come she couldn't wait to get started. She had, of course, snuck out of the school to watch some care of magical creatures lessons in the past. Usually the lessons were held near the forest where it was easy enough for her to hide out of sight. She simply couldn't wait to see what they would learn about today.
Coming upon the location for the class, Cora saw she was the first there, apart from the teacher who was waiting up front. She looked around a moment wondering where to place all her books, and wondering if she'd come a little over prepared all of a sudden. It was too late now... she would do her best to hold onto them. Cora moved forwards towards the edge of the lake where the teacher was stood, flashing her a soft smile and muttering a gentle. "Good morning" before turning her attention towards the Golden egg and bowl of water, raising her eyebrows and tilting her head to look at the egg from different angles, trying to work out what it could contain before the other students arrived. It looked metal which was unusual, but the size was similar to that which she had read of Dragon eggs. She didn't believe for a second that a teacher would be allowed to bring a live dragon egg onto the school grounds... but secretly she hoped that was what was presented before her. |

| Care of Magical Creatures, Max's favourite class, without even a close contest from any of the other subjects on offer. It had been the first elective he'd chosen when he had to pick the subjects he would be taking forward to N.E.W.T. level, and it was the only class that got him out of bed with an air of enthusiasm in his step.
This morning, Max had been so vastly excited that he'd forgotten to pull a come through his hair, so it was stuck up in quite the array of different angles, but he didn't care. There had been a note to say the class was being held at the lake, something Max was very excited for. As of yet, he hadn't delved in to the Lake to explore -- even Max had to care for the rules slightly here, and not go after the creatures at the bottom of the lake.
Perhaps... if he could gain access to the Slytherin Common Room, he could watch them from there...
He shook his head at that idea, the Slytherins would never allow such things.
"Morning, Professor!" Max greeted Professor Faucette as he arrived at the lake, looking inquisitively at the Golden Egg in her arms. It wasn't a creatures egg, Max instantly knew that from the metallic sheen of the thing, but they were in Care of Magical Creatures... Curiosity showed clearly on the Gryffindor's features, though, so it went without saying he was going to enjoy the finding out of what was in store.
"What kind of egg is that, professor?" Max asked, simply unable to not question her, even if the lesson hadn't yet begun. |

| Koda didnt really much have an opinion on Care of Magical Creatures because she rather liked animals but also was indifferent towards them at the same time. Plus she had to go to classes because there was a requirement on attendence meaning that she couldnt move up in her years unless she participated in her classes.
Remembering a lesson on Kneazles from the previous year Koda figured that it would not be difficult to go to the creatures class. It would have little work and all she would have to do would be standing in the background listening and agreeing with what ever the other kids had to say.
Today the class was at the black lake. Koda did not mind this due to the fact that she often went to the black lake anyways. She assumed that they would be studying merfolk or some shit like that.
She grumbled a good morning to the professor before standing behind some other chicks whod already arrived before her. |

| Julienne loved care of magical creatures class she found it to be one of the more soothing classes that she had taken in hogwarts years because she didnt really need to talk that much and that was really good for her because she found it rather difficult to express herself through words especially in class settings. She also really likes learning about the different animals and creatres that lvied in the wizarding world. It was interesting to know that wizards were not the only thing that mattered.
Today they met at the black lake, a bit of a switch up from where the class suaully met. It gave the hufflepuff a bit of anxiety to meet somewhere different from where she'd been used to meeting for the past three years. Change was scary but in some situations it was necessary so she did her best to stand towards the back of the group and take a deep breath and wait for the lesson to befiun. |

| Sophie sprinted towards the Black Lake, hoping that she wasn't late for class. She'd squeezed in a few minutes to go and check on Phoenix's leg. They'd been trying out a new stunt the previous night and he'd turned at the wrong angle, spraining his knee. She'd gone rummaging through the forest looking for a certain plant that she could make into a paste to help ease the pain. Not finding it - then mentally slapping herself because it was magical forest and would have magical things - she'd written a hasty letter to Grampa. He'd sent the plant over and she'd received it this morning.
She'd changed the bandages and ground up more of the plant, glad to see that the swelling had gone down a bit though Phoenix was still limping. If things got worse, she'd go to Professor Loverin or the new potions professor for something that might work faster. The paste had never let her down before but there could be something else the matter with the leg that Sophie didn't know about.
Reaching the Black Lake, she saw only a small group of people present and smiled to see that she wasn't late. She greeted the professor then made her way to the front to see a golden egg. From the looks of it, it wasn't a real egg but one that looked as if it was made of metal. That was strange. Perhaps the professor hadn't been able to procure a real egg and had to substitute it with a fake one? If that was the case, she wasn't a very good professor. |

| Care of Magical Creatures, for Stephanie, was a class that she enjoyed as long as they didn't have to get dirty. Seeing and learning about the creatures was interesting and all but if she had to get down on her hands and knees in dirt, that's where the interest stopped. Receiving word that this particular class was going to be at the Black Lake didn't make things easier. What were they going to do? Dive in and see grindylows? Sure there were spells to keep them warm and not wet but Stephanie didn't feel much like swimming.
She took a slow walk down to the Lake, seeing a sizable group already gathered on the shore. "Hello, Professor Faucette," she said with a smile. The name always got to her, reminding her of a faucet. Still, for a journalist turned professor, she wasn't all that bad.
Standing on the edges of the group, Stephanie caught a glimpse of something gold. Raising herself on on tiptoes for a slip second she saw that it was an egg. Were they learning about the Golden egg of the Triwizard Tournament? What did that have to do with Care of Magical Creatures? |

| Care of Magical Creatures. I was by far the class that Seraphina was looking forward to the most during her time at Hogwarts. As she walked briskly across the grounds in the direction of the Black Lake the wind rustled her chocolate hair, seemingly caressing her skin. Her skin was alive with excitement as her boots made soft crunching sounds, signaling her impending arrival to the lesson. The robes she was unaccustomed to almost seemed to float around her in her hurry to make it to the lesson. Looking across the short distance to her destination Seraphina noticed a few students gathered already. Upon closing the distance she also noticed that none of the aforementioned students were in her year. Only slightly deterred by this the young witch pulled up short at the edge of the group, with a good view of the professor she waited for the lesson to begin.
The first thing she noticed when she observed the teacher was that she was very beautiful. Second was a gleaming golden egg before her, along with some sort of bowl, containing what Seraphina believed to be water. Her distance made it difficult to determine. She gently tried to work her way forward. Upon closer inspection Seraphina determined that the liquid was indeed water. Now her mind whirred quickly. Wracking her brain, Seraphina couldn't seem to recall any information on a golden egg. 'How curious,' Seraphina thought to herself. Rather than ask the impulsive question on the tip of her tongue, she decided that the professor would no doubt explain in due time. She settled in to wait for the lesson to begin. |

| Mackenzie stood still as students began to gather around her set-up, smiling at each greeting as they passed. She took mental notes of which students had been to her class before and which students hadn’t, hoping that the differentiation between the two would help her to cater-more to those who did not yet have a feel for her style of teaching. She also noted students whom she knew to have specific quirks that may require certain tending to.
Per example, the ever-lovely Julienne Ambrosi had moused her way into the back of the crowd as she was known to do. She was a bright girl, Mackenzie knew that she had to be a bright girl. But she very much kept to herself, not seeming to want anything to do with verbal participation or any sort of participation at all. And yet she usually seemed so interested in what was being taught. It puzzled the young woman immensely.
“Good morning, Julienne,” Mackenzie smiled, hoping that the girl would respond with so much as a single word.
Not so shortly after the Ambrosi girl, Mackenzie noticed a much more excitable familiar face approaching the lesson.
“Hello, Max!” Mackenzie laughed softly at the boy’s question. She’d heard multiple other students speaking quietly in regards to the egg that stood before her, as it was rather obvious that it was not an egg that belonged to any animal.
“Fantastic question.” she responded. With that, she decided now was as good a time as any to start the lesson.
“As I am sure that you have all noticed by now, this egg does not belong to a creature. In fact, this egg is hardly an egg at all. It’s purely metal, manufactured by someone with a certain goal in mind. This goal, as I hope you have all studied before either in class or on your own, was to manufacture the clue for the second task of the 1994 Triwizard Tournament.”
History of the Triwizard tournament was hardly something that a student would expect out of a class meant for teachings on creatures, but Mackenzie knew what she was doing. It would tie together, she hoped.
She took the egg off of where it was sat and looked to her students.
“Would any of you like to open it?”
(OOC: You know what happens when the egg is opened above water, so feel free to gm it) |

| Max was positively vibrating with excitement as he waited for the professor to continue on with the class -- however, all Max received was that he'd asked a very good question. This brought a small frown to his features because that wasn't an answer, but he wasn't put off. No, if the professor was going to make him work for the answer, then Max most certainly would in this lesson.
The information on the egg was something that Max took in eagerly -- the first task of the 1994 Triwizard Tournament had included dragons. Max knew this because dragons were, of course, the most awesome of magical creatures because they were so powerful, so ruthless, and so darn majestic, it was his life goal to see one. But, this was about the second task of that Triwizard Tournament...
"It was in the lake..." Max said to himself, looking to the egg and then the water. For a moment, the Gryffindor simply stood where he was, thinking it through. Before it hit him.
"We can't open it above water." Max said, remembering the reading he'd done on mermaids. It had mentioned the Tournament for the very reason that the professor was holding the egg. "Unless you've changed it, I believe the egg will behold some kind of song from the mermaids that live in the lake. To be able to hear it in the melodious tones it is meant, you will need to submerge it in water...
"Otherwise, all you will hear is screeching." Max finished, looking more than a little proud of himself. His limited attention to reading had come up trumps here, and he was happy with himself for that much. |
