Having not nearly enough time to get things organised, Jake had decided on putting his classes back together. He knew he would likely end up with a larger class, but this was not always a bad thing. Setting up the classroom in the normal manner with no chairs in sight, Jake sat upon his own desk waiting for his students to arrive.

Banishing Charm.

The board said everything his students would need to know about today's lesson for now. Another practical, though that was hardly surprising, for the children to deal with. In Jake's eyes, there was no better way to learn about the spells than to try them out, and he was going to stick to that method of teaching.

Checking his watch, Jake denoted that he had about ten minutes left until the bell, so, soon, there were going to be kids arriving. Pushing a smile on to his features - that didn't quite meet his eyes - Jake readied himself for the usual buzz of children.

Defence against the dark arts had sounded interesting... But even more interesting would be a lesson devoted to physically learning about the things they needed to defend themselves from. Know thy enemy and all of that nonsense. Perhaps there were some forms of magic that weren't allowed to be taught at Hogwarts, perhaps it was illegal or something like that. He was sure that with age, more complex, perhaps even darker concepts would be explored, at least, he hoped so.

He pushed open the door of the classroom, rather surprised to find that there were no desks or chairs like other classes... Did this mean that they'd be physically casting the spells? Again, he hoped so. He saw next, the professor sitting on his desk, and behind him, written 'Banishing Charm'. And his hopes fell slightly... That was a charm, hardly a defensive spell. Unless it was used on people, in which case, it became rather interesting.

He dropped his bag to the floor "Professor," he greeted, seeing as he was the only student there "Wouldn't this be a better fit for charms class?"

(OOC: TW-Swearing.)

Knowing that this class had succumbed to a "chairless" lifestyle, Joshua entered the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom on his sick-ass whip. The wheels of his IKEA chair whirred on his way down the halls of the castle. It made no sense, really. Why would a classroom not be equipped with a place to set one's ass in between spell casting? Personally, Joshua felt as though Professor Newbury should rethink his room design.

"How are you, Professor?" Joshua smiled upon his entrance into the classroom. While it was not his priority to get a rise out of his professor, it would be an added bonus to obtain some sort of reaction from him.

Joshua looked to the board and saw that today's lesson was on the banishing charm.

'Well shit,' he thought, thinking of the worst possible outcome of this lesson. He gently stroked the headrest of his chair.

"Don't worry, Chairyl," he whispered softly. "I am sure we are banishing pumpkins or some shit like that. They won't touch you, I promise."

OOC: If anyone wants to join in, please do!!

A small class had appeared before Jake, but he was not going to be deterred by the smaller than usual class. No, they could still complete today's task with ease, so he was not about to begin panicking over it. No, this would be just fine.

The question raised by the young Gryffindor made Jake smile fondly. "Indeed, it is a charm, Jerome, but that doesn't mean there is a best fit for the charms classes you take. Charms class will only explain the uses, and allow you to try it in a non-physical setting. Today... well, you will see." Jake responded to the question that had been posed to him.

As the door opened to admit Joshua, a fond smile touched Jake's lips, of course the boy would bring back the bloody chair. "Hello Joshua, I'm well, you?" He asked, before the boy made a scene with the chair over the spell. Honestly, where did this boy get his ideas from?

"Right, you two, the banishing charm -- it seems like you both have the general idea of the spell -- it obviously banishes an object away from you. I'm sure your Charms professor will have great fun trying to explain this to you, maybe give you a small demonstration, but I thought we'd do something a bit more fun. More... of a progression of the spell. We'll start of small, and get bigger. But we'll also bring in items that move.

"Basically, we'll learn how to defend ourselves using the spell. But first, we'll start easy." Jake explained, flicking his wand so that a small, empty cardboard box appeared before both boys. "Let's start with banishing the box, and then we'll make this more fun.

"The incantation is Depulso. Like so... Depulso!" Jake said clearly, aiming his wand at another box on his desk that went flying to the back of the room, hitting the wall before falling to the floor. With a smile, Jake motioned for the boys to do the same.

PostSubject: Re: Defence Against the Dark Arts (Lesson Two - All Years)   Defence Against the Dark Arts (Lesson Two - All Years) EmptyFri Jun 23, 2017 4:33 am

Clara arrived at the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom slightly late, and more than slightly out of breath. She had lost track of time during her free period, after having a rather exciting epiphany about the fundamental rules of potion-making, after having read a particularly fascinating recipe in one of Zygmunt Budge's lesser known treatises. In any case, it had caused her to spend five more minutes than she should have in her common room, which would not have been a problem, except that the Hogwarts staircases were liable to change when given five extra minutes to do so. So she had arrived at the stairs to the DADA classroom, only to find that they no longer led to the DADA classroom, and she then had to spend another five minutes thinking of the next best way to get there, which itself took another five minutes of walking.

She did not like to be late, but she felt she had a reasonable excuse, and her happiness at her earlier discovery had not quite worn off yet, so the positive and negative emotions sort of balanced each other out, and she slipped into the classroom in an all-around neutral mood. A quick glance at the board told her they would be learning the banishing charm, and a quick glance at the box on the floor told her that they had already started. That was all right, she'd read the incantation in Achievements in Charming while studying it's opposite, accio, the summoning charm (which, in her opinion, was much more useful in everyday situations). She didn't quite remember the proper wand movements, and she'd never tried it herself, but that was what the class was for, and she was only a few minutes late. She didn't think she'd missed that much.

"Sorry I'm late," she addressed the professor.
