The children had arrived to the Ball just after the opening ceremony, as Jake had planned with his mom, to ensure he had time to look after both of them amongst the crowds of people. It saved him having to try to get them both ready early, then keep them from ruining their outfits for the evening, but didn't mean they had to pass up on attending. After Azalea's comments of them helping out with the Ball possibly leading to them being allowed to attend, neither one of them had let Jake forget until he had accepted that they were just going to have to come.

Not that he really begrudged it, but it was still something he had to work out the logistics off.

Especially when it came to attire.

Ivan's suit had been easy to pick out, and the boy had been positively ecstatic to wear it. Whereas Adrienne's dress had been a different matter entirely. The young witch didn't understand that she couldn't wear a suit like her brother and dad to the ball, but after lots of gentle coaxing, and promising she would look very, very pretty with the other girls -- which probably wasn't the best way of convincing the youngest Newbury -- she'd relented to the idea of wearing a dress to the Ball.

At the gates, both the children looked great, Ivan holding on to his younger sister's hand and hurrying along from their chaperone of their grandma to their father with happy, smiling faces. Jake had sunk down to his knees to greet them both with a warm embrace in that moment, before holding them at arms length.

"You both look amazing!" He told the children, smiling across at Adrienne. "And your hair looks so, so pretty like that!"

"I don't like itttttttt, but Nanny said it's pretty too." The witch explained, pulling a face that brought a soft laugh from Jake's lips. "It's not funny!" Adrienne added with a mock pout, folding her arms across her chest to emphasise the point.

"Come on, Adrienne, no pouting, we can go and find the snow sculptures!" Ivan insisted, pulling his sister off, even though he had no clue which way he was going, but distracting his sister in that moment was important.

"This way, big man." Jake pointed out, following after the two of them towards the snow sculpting area.

For more than an hour the Newbury family could be found amongst the snow sculptures, until, finally, they had made a house as tall as Adrienne with a fully functioning magic front door where a small dog ran around in the front garden upon Adrienne's request.

With slightly cold hands, now, Jake had suggested they go towards the marquee, to get hot chocolate to warm themselves through. With both the children being more than happy to do so, Jake had led them up towards the marquee, pointing out all of the other points of interest to the children that they'd helped design.

"Is Azalea here?" Adrienne asked, rubbing her hands together to try to get them warm again.

"She is," Jake replied easily.

"Can we find her, too?"

"We will, but lets get you warm first, I don't want you getting a cold." Jake replied, moving to the drinks containers and pouring out three cups of hot chocolate before adding a little more milk to the children's cups to ensure they wouldn't scold themselves. His eyes scanned the room for Azalea, but at that moment, she wasn't to be seen. Perhaps she'd gone outside for a bit? Jake couldn't be sure, but there was no hurry.

Picture Perfect (Mimosa & Jazalea) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Picture Perfect (Mimosa & Jazalea)   Picture Perfect (Mimosa & Jazalea) EmptyMon Apr 01, 2019 6:24 am

After dancing for what felt like ages, Mimosa had finally stopped. As much fun as it was being with ehr Jacques, he had rightly pointed out that Mimosa was too precious a resource to squander on just himself and that her friends would have a terrible time if they didn't spend any of the special moments with her. And he was right, no sooner had he let her go then a crowd of people had descended upon the witch, talking a mile a dozen and asking questions about her dress and what activities she intended to partake in. Mimosa had mostly remained cryptic, letting them guess though most were right on the money. She had to be in the Princes/Mermaid contest, she was after all the closest thing to a Princess the school had. Except she was better of course. Real princesses were annoying, like Charlotte and Zarin.

Sadly, of all the people around her, non were the ones she actually wanted to be around at the moment. For one thing Mercy wasn't anywhere to be seen, and Mimosa's initial plan of sticking with a group of people until the Gryffindor found her wasn't working. For another, Squid Boy too seemed to have disappeared which Ji Hyun was taking as his queue to now stand beside Mimosa the whole time. Ashley wasn't here either but the talk was that she s getting ready for the Princess/Mermaid contest, and Loni wasn't there either because she was too busy dancing with all the boys probably. Even Gaspard wasn't there.

"Has anyone seen Bushrah at all today?" Jia En quietly spoke up from her corner, half hidden behind her much more boisterous twin brother. Mimosa had of course not noticed the absence of the Hijabi witch but took that as her saving grace.

"Oh, I'll go find her," she volunteered far too quickly, disentangling herself for the group with zero intention of doing so. The child simply wanted to go look for Mercy, Bushrah would obviously just turn up like she always did. When Ji Hyun offered to come with her, the brunette hurriedly spoke of going to check in the girls bathroom, dissuading him from further offers. Mimosa took her chance and slipped of from the group, past the food tables, past the lit up decorations and the sleigh ride station. Mercy was not on the dance floor, she was not by the sleigh rides and she was definitely not at the food tables.

So where could she be?

Perhaps she was at one of the side marquees erected all around the main one? Yes, the one with the photo booth seem like a good idea. She was probably waiting for Mimosa there so they could take pictures together. Having cheered herself up with ehr logic, the child skipped off towards the marquee, only to find no Mercy awaiting her by the picture station. But there was no time to realize she was wrong, because soemthing else caught her eye.

"Jake!" she called out, skipping over to him with a huge grin on her face. He had been an okay dance partner Earlene and at least he knew how to lean down to her height. "I'm looking for Mercy, have you seen h-" the child stopped, her gaze dropping to the two little children by his side before her eyes sparkled and her entire face softened.

'Oh babies!!!" she squealed happily, looking at the small boy and the even smaller girl who looked so completely adorable, they were almost prettier than she was. "Where did you find them? Are they going to stay at the ball? Can I talk to them, please?" Of course, in true Mimosa fashion, the girl didn't wait for an answer, immediately lowering herself to the children's eye level and speaking to them directly.

"Hello, I'm Mimosa,' she introduced herself, omitting her last name as always because everyone obviously already knew who she was. "What are your names? How did you come to the ball? Do you dance? I love your hair!" the last was addressed to the little girl in the white lace dress.

His own name brought Jake's attention away from the children in that moment, looking up to see... well, his eldest daughter. A smile graced his lips in that moment, welcoming having all of his children in one place in that moment, even if the three of them weren't aware of such things. "Hi Mimosa," Jake replied easily to the Slytherin witch, taking in her question before looking around to see if he could spot Mercy from his higher vantage point.

"I can't say I have seen..." But the man trailed off as Mimosa's attention moved to the children, her excited squeal about 'babies' bringing a fond smile to his lips.

"We're not babies!" Adrienne shot back grumpily to the older witch almost the moment she'd said it. "Well, maybe Ivan is, but I'm not a baby!" The six year old insisted, straightening up to her full height in an effort to show she wasn't a baby. Adorable as always, the youngest Newbury tried to keep herself in the air of being offended, but Mimosa's easy going nature blew threw that quite quickly.

Ivan had never been one for opening up to strangers quickly, always a little bit more reserved than his younger sister, the boy considered Mimosa for a moment, getting ready to open his mouth to reply when Adrienne spoke again.

"I'm Adrienne, this is Ivan." She explained, before considering the older girl's compliment. The frown on the girl's features showed she was trying to work out if Mimosa was serious, mostly because the younger girl didn't like the style herself.

"Adrienne means thank you," Ivan interjected. "About her hair. She wasn't sure she liked it. And we came with our grandma, she dropped us off to see Daddy." Ivan explained, not pushing the point of who their dad was because it was mightily obvious to the boy.

"And dancing sucks." Adrienne finalised with a small huff because she had told everyone this already, so why did she have to keep confirming this?

"Now, now, Adrienne, you haven't tried it yet."

"Don't want to try it!" Adrienne shot back.

"Okay, well, we were just heading to the photo booth. Would you like to join us, Mimosa?" The Head of Gryffindor asked in an attempt to soothe his youngest daughter from her grumpy nature in respect of dancing. Of course, the professor now had an idea of what he would like, but he couldn't push any activity upon Mimosa. But, it would be great, if she did agree.

As the little girl baby protested she wasn't a baby, Mimosa grinned. Of course babies would say that, she was sure even she said that when she was a baby. now though she was all grown up and she got to pa their heads like people used to pat hers. In fact, the brunette reached out to do just that before realizing it would mess up Baby Adrienne's hair so she drew her hand back, instead shaking Baby Ivan's and smiling down at him happily.

"Adrienne means thank you," Ivan interjected.

"Then Adrienne can say that herself," Mimosa sang, not unkindly. The two were babies so they must be brother and sister, she assumed. But that didn't make it okay for Ivan to speak on her behalf. Only Mimosa was ever allowed to do that and that too because she was better at it than most people.

At the little girl's admission that dancing sucks, Mimosa looked shocked for a movement before she asked her question. "But have you tried the kind of dancing that makes you really really tall? And makes you go spinny in the air? There's lots of different kinds of dancing. Some suck and some are awesome!' The conclusion was drawn with all the confidence the Slytheirn had in herself.

"Okay, well, we were just heading to the photo booth. Would you like to join us, Mimosa?"

"Of course," the young brunette agreed, never one to miss out on being photographers. 'Can I hold the bab- children's hands please? And can I stand in the middle? We can be like the Eiffel Tower! Oh, Jake, can the babies come to France? We can go to Disneyland Paris!" The twelve year old chattered all the way to the photo booth, getting in line bend all the people who wanted to take pictures and regaling the babies with stories of France and India, countries she now considered herself an expert in.

Ivan's features contorted with confusion as Mimosa told him that Adrienne could speak for herself, not sure what to make of that, but it didn't matter too much, as Mimosa was already underway with her next line of questions aimed at Adrienne.

"No, I don't like any dancing!" The younger witch insisted, showing that she really wasn't going to be moved on the subject. It was true, too, Adrienne did not like dancing, no matter how much her grandma tried to prove otherwise.

Thankfully, though, the attention was taken away from the thought of dancing with the pictures, and though Adrienne had looked sceptically at Mimosa at the idea of holding her hand, Ivan had assured her it was okay, and the three children had started walking off hand in hand, Mimosa in the middle, talking as quickly as always.

Much too quickly, as Jake found out.

"DISNEYLAND!" Adrienne screeched, making Jake internally sigh. "There's one in France?! Where's France, Daddy?" The six year old asked, before deciding she didn't really care about that bit. "Can we go, please, please, please!"

"We'll see, Adrienne."

"But, dadddddddddy," Adrienne tried.

"Maybe." Jake replied again, but Mimosa had started talking about France, and India and all the places she'd been, captivating the youngest Newbury's attention whilst Ivan listened and watched quietly from the side line, trying to work out the new addition to their trio that had become a foursome.

As they walked, though, Jake's attention caught sight of Azalea heading between different stations, and after giving her a wave to catch her attention, he beckoned her over. There was a pause, before Jake tried again, this time signing that he was going to have a picture with the children. Another pause, and Jake tried again.

Camera.

A click of the finger to show it was going to be a photo.

Then he pointed to the three children.

Himself.

And then finally Azalea.

Even from the distance, he was sure she would work out he was asking her to come over and take a picture with their daughter. With all the children. Perhaps she would say yes, maybe she would say no. But he'd asked, and now, it was up to her how she wished to proceed.

PostSubject: Re: Picture Perfect (Mimosa & Jazalea)   Picture Perfect (Mimosa & Jazalea) EmptyThu Apr 04, 2019 8:03 pm

After the opening dance, Azalea had stuck around just long enough to be polite before melting not the shadows, keeping an eye on the event as a dutiful chaperon. Well, at first she'd just been contented to watch Mimosa dance happily with Jacques Clement (which had made her remember something Dad had mentioned about Mimosa's French connections, small world she supposed) but after a while, the young woman had untied harried looking Grayson ferrying a small group of first years around and realized she was still at work.

Since then, she and the Librarian had taken the divide and approach conquer, covering different areas and switching when they felt necessary, a tactic that had worked fairly well until a group from the her University had arrived. Whether they' come for the free food, or if Cieran wanted to repay her the favor by attending a party of hers, or if they had simply followed the infamous French Auror in training, the brunette did not know. She was just glad to see familiar faces.

She also figured the Transfiguration teacher needed a break, and to show of his dancing skills. So the witch had politely introduced Cieran to the tall distinguished man as her esteemed colleague studying a masters in floral arrangements and garden design, making the twenty seven year old blush profusely. If her match making skills were as on point as they sued to be, hopefully the two gentlemen would be dancing the night away very soon.

Leaving them to better acquaint themselves with each other, Azalea headed towards one of the side Marquees, hoping to grab a coffee on the go before heading of to the Sleigh rides to make sure no inappropriateness was taking place there. The photo booth was one of the more popular stops in the event, everyone wanting a memory of the day and the line was easily a good ten feet long. But people were still waiting. Azalea was just about to move towards the coffee drum when something caught her attention.

It was Jake, making a "come over" sign. the witch looked at him puzzled before ehr eyes dropped lower, taking in the children. An automatic grin crept across her face at the sight of Ivan and Adrienne... standing on either side of Mimosa.

Something akin to pure joy filled her heart as she saw all three children together, emotion creeping at the corners of her eyes. When she looked up at Jake once more, he was making the camera motion, beckoning her over.

He wanted her to join in the picture.

Forgetting all about the coffee, Azalea made her way to the small group, her entrance punctuated by Adrienne's happy squeals who had finally seen her coming.

"Miss Harrington!" Mimosa greeted her cheerfully, automatically moving herself and the children aside to make room for the older witch in the queue. "We're just going to take some pretty pictures with the babies! You can come too!"

"We can take alllllllll the pictures with Azalea," Adrienne sang as Ivan moved slightly closer to her, his welcome more muted than his sister though equally warm in every way. "Aaaaaaallllllll he pictures!"

And for the next twenty minutes, the mismatched, crisscrossed, semi dysfunctional family did just that.
