Runes Lesson One - All Years Empty
PostSubject: Runes Lesson One - All Years   Runes Lesson One - All Years EmptyThu Apr 30, 2015 7:26 pm

Daniel didn't believe he could be more nervous in that moment, heading in to work that morning had made him feel quite sick, but he knew he was being silly. After all, he knew about Runes, he knew how they worked, and he could show the kids how to learn them.

Perhaps he could even show them how to break curses (of little to no effect if the curse was activated of course).

He'd been pacing his classroom for more than ten minutes now, not sure what else he could do as he waited. The board showed the subject of the Elemental Runes that they would be learning that day, so all he needed were some students to teach and it would probably settle his nerves down a lot.

Taking a deep breath, Daniel reminded himself that this was going to be okay, that he should breath, and just think of how stupid he would look if Naomi could see him right now. How much she would tease him. Ceasing his pacing, Daniel crossed his arms across his chest and waited for people to turn up.

Runes Lesson One - All Years Empty

Naomi walked into the Ancient Runes classroom with her arms folded around her textbooks protectively. Her eyes widened when she saw the headmaster in the classroom. She hadn't realized he would be teaching this class! She managed to mumble something that sounded like "Hello Headmaster," before slinking to the back of the room and slumping into a seat, trying to hide behind her open textbook. Talking was always easier when it was about school matter, but she didn't know if she could speak to the headmaster directly, even about the classwork!

Although the textbook was only meant to be a hiding place, Naomi did enjoy reading through it. She traced the shapes of the runes with her finger, wondering if she could work them into a drawing and imbibe the drawing with magic, or even knit them into a scarf or hat and do the same, once she got better at knitting at least. She made a mental note to talk it over with Finley later. Maybe she'd even gather the nerve to ask the headmaster later.

Runes Lesson One - All Years Empty

Ancient Runes was among Bennett's Top 3 Favorite classes, therefore he was not going to miss his first lesson of the year. He walked out of the Great Hall that morning, with his school bag over one shoulder and an apple on his hand. Despite his secret undying love for food, Bennett wasn't much of an eater when it ca,e to breakfast. The distance to the Runes classroom seemed shorter than ever, and Bennett already expected Professor Jameson to be at the front of the room. Bennett admired him a little bit, and Bennett didn't really admire people putside of his family unit. Even the people he shared blood lineage with were kind of embarrassing, to say the least. Taking a bite of his apple, Bennett walked into the Runes classroom and took a seat at the front row. "Morning, professor." Bennett greeted the man, leaving out the headmaster part accidentally. "I mean, Headmaster."

Searching through his school bag, he found his Runes textbook. Bennett was so ready for this lesson. So ready.

It wasn't a secret that Bella wasn't a fan of school. She just didn't like the whole aspect of waking up in the morning to attend classes that made her fall asleep rather than keep her brain active. She had never taken Runes class, but she was giving this class a chance because Bella had absolutely no clue what she wanted to study after graduation from Hogwarts and needed to keep her options open. However, she wasn't going to overwhel herself with a course load she couldn't carry. Therefore, she had signed up for as little classes as she could. She had left Flying class out because she didn't need it. She was relatively good at flying, she knew her stuff and didn't plan on pursuing a career that required extensive skill or knowledge on that subject. She also wanted to leave potions out of her schedule but her mother had persuaded her to take it, so she was stuck on that one as well.

She held her teal book bag over her shoulders, her uniform freshly ironed and her hair up in a messy bun, and took a seat the front of the class. She was relatively close to a boy she knew from other classes, Bennett or something like that, but she didn't like him so she ignored his presence. "Morning, Headmaster!" Bella greeted the older man at the front of the room, excited to have him as professor of a class. She didn't say 'good morning', though, because had it been a good morning she would have stayed in bed. This was just a morning.

Runes Lesson One - All Years Empty

When Victoria had seen that they would now be having a proper teacher for Runes, she was over the moon. Especially when she saw it would be the Headmaster. Oh, she had spoken to him quite often, what with being Head Girl, and one of the most talented students in the school. They had a good relationship, and Victoria was excited to see him teach.

After finishing up her duties as head girl, Victoria hurried along to the class, slipping in just behind a Gryffindor witch. "Good morning everyone!" Victoria greeted the room fondly, moving to the front of the class like normal and taking up a seat at the front next to Bennett. She'd seen him in the common room before, and Victoria loved to get to know people of all ages.

"You don't mind if I sit with you, do you?" Victoria asked anyway, only sitting once he agreed to her offer. Taking out her books, Victoria readied herself for the lesson, not even trying to contain her excitement for the whole class.

Ancient Runes, to Finley's understanding, was a theory based lesson. Which made him incredibly excited for the lesson. He was therefore highly punctual, and as he was aware of the Headmaster taking the class, he'd checked his uniform a hundred times to make sure he looked smart.

As he entered the classroom, Naomi was sat at the back again, hiding. He frowned slightly, but decided not to question it as he took up the seat next to her. "A-Almost didn't see y-you." Finley said, almost teasing the witch because she was almost completely hidden behind her book.

"H-he's not sc-scary." Finley added as he got his books out, only whispering because he didn't want Professor Jameson to hear him. Well, he wasn't scary so far as Finley knew, Professor Jameson had been on his side when it came to Professor Vane, so he couldn't be bad, right?

Runes. Most definitely something Dan would find both entertaining and useful. They were mostly used for protection, which was the best use for them, in Dan's opinion. And they really were quite versatile, which made Dan love them even more. So, he skipped into class, plopped himself near the front--and two of his housemates--and grinned widely. "Hey guys!" he greeted cheerily. Some found his vibrant cheer to be annoying, but he wasn't all that concerned with what people thought of him. He was free to express his happiness however he liked.

"Good morning, Headmaster!" he singsonged happily. As he looked around the room, he realized that he was the only first year in attendance. Pity, he was rather hoping he could make friends in his own year, but he was more than willing to make a few that were older than him. No harm in having a few older friends to help out.

As the room start to fill up, Daniel greeted the students in much the same manner he was greeted. Hellos were passed between the students and himself until finally the clock reached the hour mark. Daniel waited only a few seconds before deciding to start the lesson, if people were late, he'd have a word with them and hope they wouldn't do it again.

"Good morning, everyone. Welcome to your first Runes class of the year. I am, of course, Professor Jameson, you can call me Professor or Headmaster, I don't mind." Daniel explained, making sure that the kids felt comfortable enough around him. "Now, Runes is a complex area of magic, so I am going to insist that you don't try to use the magical element without supervision. If you have any outside enthusiasm for Runes, great, come to me and I will supervise that work, but please don't do it on your own.

"Why, you might ask?" Daniel continued, looking between the faces. "Well, Runes have been used as security measures for many years, anyone who knows anything about Cursebreakers will know that highly qualified witches and wizards have been seriously injured or even killed through accidents with runes." Daniel explained, allowing a moment for this to sink in.

"Now, I'm not trying to scare you, runes are very safe if you follow the rules." He concluded, giving them all a smile of encouragement. "So, today we will be looking at the Elemental Runes. We have four elements, can somebody tell me what they are?"

Daniel looked to each of the students hopefully, even if they could only give him one of the elements he would be happy.

Bennett couldn't exactly say no to the Head Girl, could he? No, he really couldn't. He didn't really mind Victoria sitting next to him, she was cool. "Not at all, no." He shook his head, letting her the spot next to him. Turning his eyes from the girl to the professor, he waited until it was a good time to start the lesson.

When the Headmaster began to speak, Bennett's ear perked up and he listened carefully to whatever it was he had to say, regardless of how uninteresting it could be. Not that Runes weren't interesting, Bennett was really dreading the introductions part. Professor or Headmaster? Professor it is, Bennett thought. It would be nice to see the man in a different light - to see him as something else than the king of the school.

Bennett couldnt understand his next words, that Runes were complex. Wasn't all magic super complex? Wasn't that the whole point of magic itself? Slightly raising his eyebrow, Bennett kept listening. Outside enthusiasm?! Yes! Bennett had thay! His brown eyes lit up at the thought of practicing such a mysterious branch of magic, and more so at spending time with the Headmaster. This was Bennett's opportunity to ask him advice about the future, to make sure he was walking the right path!

Cursebreaking? What was that? Bennett had no idea what a curbreaker was, though he felt he should and the warmth rising up in his cheeks reminded him of the internal embarrassment he was just going through. The question Professor Jameson had just asked was easy. Or so Bennett thought. He wasn't sure if he was referring to the air, water, earth and fire ones, but it was worth a shot. Speaking up, Bennett looked serious - not cocky, not uncomfortable, just serious. "I may be wrong, but are you talking about air, fire, earth and water?"

Daniel didn't have to wait very long for an answer, and for that much he was very grateful. There would be nothing worse than a class that remained silent at his questions, so giving a small pause for the boy to finish - he didn't want to cut across anyone - Daniel nodded, a smile touching his features.

"Very good! Mr Fox, isn't it?" Daniel asked, smiling at the Hufflepuff. "Take five points for Hufflepuff!" He added, deciding he should show that points were available for participation here. "As Bennett has just said, we have earth, fire, wind and water. The four basic elements of the world. Now, each of these has a rune attached to them, but for today we will be focusing on only one.

"Today, we will be looking at the fire element." Daniel continued, and with a flick of his wrist the rune appeared on the board behind him. Drawing runes is the simple part, and you might noticed that, to a degree, the rune does look like a flame, making it a little easier to note." He explained, hoping the children could see it as clearly as he could.

With another flick of his hand, Daniel distributed the wooden bowls from his desk to each desk that was occupied by a student. "The fun, however, is carving them in to wood. Each of you should have a gouging tool on your desk, and I would like you to try to draw the rune in to the inside of the bowl. I will give you further instructions once you have completed this step, but if you need help, please ask!"
