| Sumire remembered vividly that her father had once said that if he hadn't taken over the last branch of the family business he would have done something Uncle Pietr did and worked in the magical world. Uncle Pietr worked for the Burmese Ministry and he worked as a 'Cursebreaker'. Because Uncle Pietr was only two years older than Kuvi Sidhir, he was often at the Sidhir home. Uncle Pietr often brought Cursebreaker books and often read avidly aloud to Sumire. "Little Flower" he called her fondly as he told her about this archaic curse dating back to the Harappan Civilization and one of the first sun energy magic users. Sumire knew that her father had no presumptions of work for her for when she grew older and so she looked forward to the ability to chose a career in magic possibly.
After arriving in class as soon as possible, and pitying the ones who were late, she begun writing a letter to her uncle about Ancient Runes so she wouldn't have to speak to anyone. As friendly as she could be, she was ecstatic about taking Ancient Runes this year rather than any of her previous years. She took Arithmacy and Divination at those times, which was unfortunate. This, she realized, could possibly help her. When he begun teaching, she had been able to carve out a bowl that had a few misshapen chips but was a bowl nonetheless.
Sumire took a deep breath as she withdrew her wand and carefully took to forming a small flame, she held it back from the bowl in foresight which was good because the flame went uncontrollable for a moment before reigning into a small bluecolor. She did as she was told and smiled as she watched them do so. In her brain she was categorizing a list of questions about Cursebreaking to ask Professor Jameson once class was over, but for now she'd just have to wait patiently. |

| Alberi sighed silently to himself when he wasn't facing the teacher. He quickly walked to a free seat near the board and sat down. He was surprised when the teacher said he had to carve the rune into the bowl. Carve it? That was not what he had expected, really. He had never been good when it came to carving stuff at school... Were these runes magical? Probably, now thinking over it. Would that influence the way it worked out? Who knew...
He had been so caught up with thinking how his lack of carving skills he hadn't noticed the time had gone by until he teacher called up. He watched as he made fire rise from the bowl. When it began to grow, Alberi flinched slightly. He hoped it wouldn't spread. The whole room was full of wood and soon all, or most, would be on fire. Which did increase the chance of the whole room of getting on fire.
After the fire had called, he decided to pick up the knife and start carving. After ten minuets he had done something which looked like the rune, he had hands full with splinters and small cuts and a newly made hatred towards wood which wasn't fixed up in some way. He missed his computers. At least you didn't get your hands bloody when you use a keyboard. He really wished that other classes didn't have this. Though Dueling class seemed to promise that it would be worse...
After he did his best with the rune, which wasn't much from what the boys usually best was (though, then again, he was only best in things that made him think or had to do with technology). After that he took out his wand, stood up and put his wand above the rune, doing what the teacher told him. He traced the rune a few time and tried to imagine fire to come out, his eyes closed tight. he was still having his fright from the classroom burning down. After a while he opened that with the hope to see fire but with no luck. He took a deep breath and tried again but it didn't work the second time as well. For the third time, he went into a meditate like state and made his mind focus on fire. After a while of tracing the rune, he heard a small crackling noise under him and opened his eyes. He smiled slightly at the small fire that had shown. After that he tried to rise it higher. He didn't do it way to high though, as he doubted he would be able to control it. At last, he sat down. Well, this wasn't a complete fail. |

| Naomi stood up over her bowl with its carved sigil, listening to the professors instructions. When he was done, she followed the lines of her rune carefully, imagining fire coming out of the carving.
Nothing happened.
Frowning, Naomi traced it again, concentrating harder. Still nothing. Frustrated and scowling, she sketched out the lines in jerky motions, thinking Light! at it.
The flames shot up so fast and high that Naomi had to yank her hand back to avoid her wand getting burnt to a crisp. She let out a little yelp. The flames were so hot that she almost took a step back, but they were gone in seconds, leaving the bowl empty except for the innocent looking rune at the bottom. She glared at it, the back of her mind noting that there must be a protective spell on the bowl, or else it would be ashes by now. |

| As they were told to stand up, Finley did as he was told, checking his finger intermittently which seemed to have stopped bleeding now. Good. Watching Professor Jameson work the runes so effortlessly made Finley a little jealous. He was quite sure he wasn't going to manage this branch of magic, just like the others.
And now he was daydreaming.
Or so it would seem.
As a moment later, flames shot up very close to him. Jumping back, Finley almost fell over his chair but managed to catch himself. Eyes wide and his heart beating fast, he looked to the witch beside him. "W-what did you d-do?" Finley asked, moving to the bowl that was now empty to see if it was damaged. It wasn't.
Frowning, Finley turned to his own bowl, taking out his wand. With a deep breath to steady himself, he traced his own rune with the tip of his wand, hoping that it wouldn't do what Naomi's had. With the constant thought of a small fire, Finley watched as the magic began to work, a very, very small, controlled flame flickered around the flame...
Finley couldn't believe it. His eyes went wide at the revelation that he could do something first time. A small, very happy laugh escaped his lips at the sight of the magic and he turned to his best friend - the flames going out through his distracted attention and threw his arms around her without a second thought.
"I d-did it!" He told her excitedly, letting go of his best friend and turning back to the bowl, doing it again as his smile continued to grow. This... this was the best day ever! |

| Victoria had listened to the instructions carefully, wanting nothing more than to do this right. So far, it seemed pretty straight forward - so long as you could carve the Runes correctly, of course. Once the professor had finished his instructions, Victoria had slipped her wand from her bag and stood up.
Making sure everything was clear of the bowl - in case of an accident, Victoria cleared her mind. Only leaving the clear picture of the fire she wanted to make happen from the rune. With the picture clear in her mind, Victoria allowed the tip of her wand to trace the bowl, slowly but carefully to make sure it was right.
A subtle show of flames began to show as her wand finished the rune, and Victoria couldn't help but smile to herself. Raising her wand from the bowl, the flames rose steadily higher. Victoria kept them to a controlled height though, not wanting to cause any accidents.
Satisfied that she could do it, Victoria imagined the flames gone, and they died away. Her smile had blossomed exponentially during the practice, and she looked around the room to see how everyone was getting on, giving them small smiles that she hoped would help encourage them. ________________________________________________ | |
