| With the attack that had just happened, Daniel had had a lot of work to do. Along with his (minor in comparison to a lot of people) injuries, Daniel had had to write to parents constantly reassuring them that the school was now safe. The Ministry had helped put in some extra safety precautions, but Daniel was aware that every defence had a method to get around it.
The castle had been repaired to it's previous state, but Daniel knew as he moved around the halls that the people could not be put back to the same way as before. It hurt him to know that, but he did not let it show. He, of all people, had to keep the spirit of the school high.
His classroom was set up in the usual manner, desks for everyone to sit at, whilst his own sat before the board. On the board was the topic for today, Defensive Runes. Those who came to his lesson would have a practical set of skills to take home for the summer, though he hoped they wouldn't need them. |

| Runes was still Bennett's favorite class, which is why he usually didn't mind the walk from the Common Room to the Sixth Floor. Except he did mind this time. He wasn't scared, though he had been at the time, of people walking into the castle and killing people off again, but he was worried about it generally. His mother didn't want him to leave school, though she was dead scared of anything happening to him apparently, and his father had offered to take him to his hometown, away from all the danger. Bennett would have jumped at the offer, but his mother was standing in the way. She wanted him to grow up with her family, with Oliver and Matthew around, with the Ministry as a career option.
At some point he had wanted - so badly - to study cursebreaking, but now he didn't. He just wanted out of Hogwarts. With his book bag hung over one shoulder, his tie a little loose, Bennett walked into the Runes classroom. He was the first student, but he didn't mind. Bennett took a seat at the front of the class, for some reason paying attention to the wood of the desk more so than any other day. It was as if suddenly he couldn't look at the Headmaster, and the desk was a more interesting subject. After a few more minutes of uselessly picking at his desk, Bennett raised his eyes to the board.
Defensive Runes
Ha. He wasnt surprised. It made sense for everyone to want to teach better defensive magic now that the castle had been attacked. It was a crappy way of trying to make the students feel safe, he thought. Nevertheless, he wasn't going to question the Headmaster's lesson. He was probably smarter than most of the professors, he clearly must know what he was doing. Taking out something to write with and something to write in, Bennett waited for the rest if the class...or for the class to start. |

| Ancient Runes. After the attack, all the classrooms seemed to be empty. Some parents still denied to send their children back, afraid of their safety. She couldn't blame them. She was scared to death when Sapphire couldn't be found around the castle. And until that letter arrived she was scared that she might have lost her little precious sister.
She didn't waste much time to get ready and she exited the Common Room, slowly making her way up the Grand Staircase to the Sixth Floor. She was supposed to meet Sapphire outside the class, but she was late. Amy made a mental note to scold her for that, since she hated waiting alone like an idiot, and walked inside the class quietly.
Finding an empty desk was easy, since there was only one person in the room, besides the Professor. Taking a seat somewhere near the front, Amethyst took out her things and glanced on the board. Defensive Runes. Message delivered crystal clear. The Hufflepuff wasn't surprised in the least, and she doubted any other student would be either when they saw today's lesson. All she had to do now was wait. |

| TJ liked most lessons, but there were some that were, in his opinion at least, overly complicated. Take Ancient Runes, for example, this was a class that was only really relevant if you were working in ancient areas. Which, TJ didn't really see himself doing, but the fact was, he didn't know what he was going to be able to do when he left the castle, so he kept his options open.
Moving up the stairs to the classroom, TJ ignored how quiet things were, despite the people moving to classrooms, things seemed hushed. Of course, the attack had been a terrible thing, but TJ didn't think it was worth being so... well, quiet. Wasn't it better to show that your spirit hadn't been broken?
Shaking his head as he opened the door, TJ noted those who had arrived before him. Usually, he sat on his own, but upon seeing Amethyst in the room, he moved to her desk. "You don't mind, do you?" The Ravenclaw asked as he took the seat beside her. "Professor." He added towards the Headmaster a moment later, taking out his notebook just in case. |

| Okay, maybe she was a little late. A little too late but she could make it to class on time, right? The Gryffindor was practically running around the room, getting ready and not even bothering to check herself before leaving.
Her curls were all messy and she looked like she had run out of a wild adventure but that did not stop her from arriving to class. Taking a moment to calm her breathing, and pull herself together, she softly walked into the class, knowing that her sister would already be there. And that kinda helped. But then she remembered the scolding that would follow, and that's when Sapphire started to rethink attending the same classes as her sister.
Walking inside though, she was met with a surprise. She would, of course, sit with her sister... if the seat wasn't already occupied. By a boy. A handsome boy. A boy Amethyst hadn't said a word about. Making eye contact with the older girl, Sapphire gave her 'the look' before taking a seat on the other side of the classroom. She was going to have a talk with her beloved sister. |

| Ruby was ready for this class. It was her favorite! She didn't have to physically do anything but read her book and it was delightful. She was rather tired of hearing about the battle. Yes, it was terrible. And yes, people had died. But didn't they die every day? She didn't understand why every professor was treating them like they were walking on thin ice that would crack at any moment. It was freaky and abnormal.
She knew people reacted to situations like the attack differently. And sure she would have been more shaken up if she had had the balls to get out of bed and go and help protect her school. But she hadn't. And Ruby had to live with that. So, she did. She didn't care that there was an attack. It didn't affect her in any way shape or form, so she didn't feel the need to show any affection towards other students. Sure she was heartless, but what did that matter.
She would be gone next term and never see these people again, so why waste her energy on them? Which is why when she walked into Ancient runes, she almost walked out of her favorite lesson. She was tired of the professors thinking they needed to learn how to defend themselves. This was supposed to be school. Not Auror training. |

| Ancient Runes was a subject that Adaline did not let herself fall behind on. Not only was it her favorite but it was also practically in practically everything; including defense. After all, she had used Runes to put up a protective barrier around her, Kai, Jacques and Naomi even with her contractions the day of the attack.
Stepping into the classroom, Adaline gave a soft smile to the Headmaster and moved to sit at one of the desks, her eyes focused on the words on the board.
Defensive Runes
Well, it seems even the Headmaster was now taking the imitative to teach his students defensive techniques. First Defense, now Ancient Runes. Adaline wondered if any other subject would go ahead with this defensive route.
Sitting down, she leaned back on the chair and closed her eyes for a few seconds. The attack weighed heavy on practically everyones minds and Adaline had a feeling that the Basilisk's were not done with their fight to get rid of purebloods. |

| When Aiden stepped into the Ancient Runes classroom, he had to blink his eyes quite a few times to make sure he had read the words on the black board right.
Defensive Runes
Well it seems that Daniel, their Headmaster, was now taking their lessons even more seriously due to the attack of the Basilisk. Not that he could blame the Headmaster for this; it had been an unexpected attack, one that not even he had expected to happen. Not on a school full of children anyway; children who were pretty much innocent.
Sighing softly and shaking away the dark thoughts, the Slytherin moved towards an empty table with two chairs, taking one and leaving the other one empty for someone to join him; preferably Sebastian but he wasn't sure if the Ravenclaw would be in the lesson anyway.
Pulling out his parchment, quill and inkwell, the Slytherin sat back and waited for the start of the lesson. This would prove to be an interesting one; just like the Defence one had been. |

| The unease in the school was still palpable to Sebastian. He didn't like it, but then no one really did, did they? The Ravenclaw had submerged himself in his studies though, when he wasn't meeting up with Aiden, he was reading for his exams. Terrified of failing his exams due to the distractions of the attack.
He would not, he'd decided, let a load of idiots ruin his future.
Slipping through the door of the Ancient Runes classroom, Sebastian gave the Headmaster a small smile. "Professor." The boy greeted, looking around the room before his eyes fell on the one face that seemed to make things better. Aiden. Moving towards the Slytherin, Sebastian took up the seat beside him. "Hey." He greeted his boyfriend, keeping the scene casual because their relationship wasn't yet public knowledge.
Looking up to the board, Sebastian noted the topic of the day. It made sense, really, after everything that had gone on. |

| As the classroom filled up, Daniel smiled to each of the students that had arrived, hoping to put them at ease if nothing else. He knew many people blamed him for the attack, and though Daniel could not have prevented it, he understood the reasoning behind people's beliefs.
"Good morning everyone." Daniel greeted the class when the flow of students seemed to have ceased. "Welcome back to Runes, I'm sure you're all glad to be indoors for this lesson." The Headmaster explained, really hoping that this was true for the majority of the students.
"Today we will be studying Defensive Runes. Now, I'm sure you can all guess what they do, so I'm going to give you a couple of Runes that might help you out of a sticky situation. First, the rune for which the defence comes, Ihwaz. The rune takes the shape something similar to a backward Z, as follows." Daniel explained, turning to the board to draw the symbol.
"For the most part this will defend you from spells and threats. It is, as with most magic, dependent on skill and ability of those who are using the Rune, but it is perhaps the best option we would have on offer to us. Now, if you'd like to pair up, you can try the defence out against one another, use the rune to set up a barrier between yourself and your partner, and with harmless spells, the other should try to break through it. For demonstration purposes only, of course, the rune does have a much higher capability than most defensive spells you'll be taught elsewhere." |
