The Buddy System (Third & Fourth Years) Empty
PostSubject: The Buddy System (Third & Fourth Years)    The Buddy System (Third & Fourth Years) EmptySun May 03, 2015 10:00 am

Veronika pulled her hair up into a ponytail as she prepared herself for today's lesson. She planned on teaching her students, what she hoped were appropriate charms and spells to cast on their opponents in duels. She was also hoping that she'd be able to work in the right sorts of jinxes that were almost harmless to young youth. All at the same time she was ready to give them a good lecture on proper dueling techniques and rules. After a good breakfast and a good prep session and doing a little bit of reviewing of her own, she gave herself a positive up and down look and a nod before grasping her wand, tying her robes around her shoulders, and marching down the hallways. The hallways she was hoping were empty of other professors, in which she did so by waking up early. In her class room alone she smiled as she entered.

And sat and waited for her students.

After properly greeting her students and giving them a nod as she entered she begun her lesson.

"Good day to you all," she begun smiling, "today as third and fourth years I've a good mind to teach to you and explain to you the more advanced dynamics of dueling but first a pre-emptive gesture of refreshing your minds about what dueling is and it's importance. If you feel the need please do take notes, if not then don't; it's up to you. It's important to know about these things, but if you already to it's clearly not necessary." She gave a tight smile and nod.

Dueling is both the art and the activity of engaging in a challenge of combat under magical means. It’s a common practice in the wizarding culture, that has appeared to be going on for quite some time. The combatants that face each other first bow and then attempt to do any of the following; disarm, stun, injure, defeat, and in real instances kill to force their opponent into submission. The dominant Dueler is declared the winner following that.” As she said this aloud, she was flicking her wand to mentally make the chalk dance on the board spelling out the necessaries of dueling.

The rules of dueling include a formal invitation to the other wizard, it is a sign of respect.” She narrowed her eyes as she singled each of her students out. “In the real life you may not always if not ever give a formal invitation to duel or receive one, but in my class and in all facets of dueling within Hogwarts you are to always formally invite your opponent to duel.” With that she leaned back casually, the chalk behind her underling the word always.

The limits of dueling are simple; all types of magic are allowed, in an older setting not so much here, but none non-magical means to dueling. There are also typically rules that can range from Dueling to Disarm to Dueling to Kill. I can assure you as third and fourth years we’ll mostly be practicing Dueling to Disarm and Dueling to Stun or Defeat.

Veronika took a deep breath and gave a wan smile to her students.

If you’re ready to continue, I am too.” This was a sign for her students to either start listening or start paying attention again.

Finley honestly didn't know how to feel about Dueling. Once again he'd been split from the people he trusted, and who would help him through the lesson, so he was nervous. Though, for Finley that was nothing knew, it didn't help with the unexpected.

Dueling, to Finley, was much like Defence Against the Dark Arts, ad seeing as he failed in that lesson, he was quite sure this was going to be the same. Taking a deep breath to try and rid himself of the sick feeling that he had, Finley pressed the door open and smiled weakly at the professor. Moving to a seat at the front, Finley took out a notebook and waited.

Fortunately, it wasn't long before they started, and the announcement of theory being the start of the lesson made him breath a soft sigh of relief. Picking up his pen the moment the professor invited them to, and quickly making notes on every word she said. Most of it, Finley had read, but he took care to write it out anyway. Especially the rules of Dueling within the class and school. He didn't think the professors would be happy if they were Dueling outside of class, but Finley made the note anyway, because he didn't want to be a disappointment to the professor.

The notes that Finley had scribbled had separate headings for each point the professor had made, and as she finished going through everything, Finley looked up, cautiously meeting the witch's eye as he lowered his pen as a sign that he was ready to move on when she told them to.

Sumire felt like a ray of sunshine had sprayed over her when she woke that morning. She'd gotten up early enough to do some yoga to reign in her energy and enlighten her focus before dressing and fixing herself to look presentable. The bangles on her wrist were from her fiance, Felix, and her face flushed as she remembered the way his eyes lit up when he presented them to her that summer of her 13th birthday. She adored them and the matching necklace that Felix gifted to her. With that in mind she hooked in her mother's earrings and braided her hair to her right side, with tendrils falling out to frame her face. She felt a little self-conscious of the amount of jewlery she was wearing so she tucked the bangles into the cuffs of her shirt and the necklace into her shirt before heading off to breakfast.

She read a small passage in her Beginner's Duelling Book, highlighting parts she found necessary as she drank her Darjeeling tea and ate her crumpets. She'd sent her father a letter last night and was expecting one around lunch time, but until then she was enjoying the beauty of Scotland. As she entered her Dueling classroom she smiled at the only other third year she could see and opened her mouth to speak but instead hurried to sit next to him. She gave him another smile before taking notes furiously alongside him, once the teacher paused to give them a moment to continue talking, she turned to him.

"Hello," she greeted as she stuck her un-bangled hand out, "my name is Sumire, I don't believe we've meet before but it seems we may have a class all to ourselves, lucky us huh?"

Finley wasn't sure of the witch beside him as she came up and took the seat beside him. He'd cast her a small look as she sat down and made sure all of his things were out of her way. Not because he wanted to be away from her, oh no, but because he was quite sure he was in her way.

But she was pretty - something that had become apparent a lot more recently to Finley was that girls were pretty. Pretty girls made him blush, quite a lot, and true to form, Finley's cheeks had begun to heat up after the second time of glancing at her.

He could only hope she didn't notice.

When the Hufflepuff spoke, Finley tried not to jump. She had a very pretty voice, which didn't help his already awkward demeanor and as she extended her hand to him, Finley took a moment to realise she wanted to shake hands. Quickly wiping his hand on his trousers, Finley took her hand and smiled a little. "F-Finley." He supplied to the witch, motioning with his free hand to himself as he always did.

The question on being lucky made Finley look towards the professor and then back to the witch beside him. Honestly, he would have been happier if Naomi was here, but that wasn't the professor's fault, nor Sumire's. "I g-guess so." Finley responded with a small smile, his eyes drifting back to his paper.

It would be clear to anyone that he was shy, his cheeks nor a bright crimson as he waited for the professor to continue with the lesson.
