| Christmas had always been a happy time in the Newbury household, but this Christmas was so much different for Jake. When Veronika had pulled him aside to tell him the news, Jake had feared for the worst, but upon finding out that it was such good news, Jake didn't really know what to do with himself.
As he was already a cheerful man, it might be difficult for many to see that he was happier as of late. He was going to be a father, and as daunting as it was when he first heard the news, he was embracing it now. Of course, he hadn't told anyone yet because it was much too soon and complications could arise, but Jake was so so ready to tell the world.
With the classroom set up as usual, Jake wrote the lesson on the board Verdimilious Charm and took a seat on top of the only desk in the room. Waiting for the students to arrive, Jake tried to push the thoughts of everything that was happening in his life to concentrate on his students and their studies. ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~

| Naomi and Finley entered the DADA classroom, unsurprisingly the first ones to arrive. Naomi greeted Jake happily. "Good afternoon Jake," she greeted happily. While last lesson hadn't been the most pleasant experience, Naomi enjoyed Defense on the whole. She propped her bag in a corner of the classroom where it hopefully wouldn't be trampled and pulled out her wand.
Twirling the slim piece of wood between her fingers, Naomi leaned agains the wall and waited for class to start. "How's Professor Hollands?" she asked Jake to fill the time. Also because she was curious; there seemed to be a law against not having at least one pregnant professor each year, but it was still an exciting occurrence.
A quick glance at the board revealed the day's topic and Naomi began mentally reviewing everything she knew about the Verdimilious Charm, which wasn't much. |

| Finley would not lie about his anxiety that filled him about returning to the Defence Against the Dark Arts class. He'd paused on the way there, hurrying in to the boy's toilets because he felt sick, only to emerge a few minutes later with a timid smile on his face as he and Naomi continued to class. Naomi had, thankfully, not mentioned what had happened in class, whether she hadn't seen, or simply respected his space, Finley didn't know. But he was thankful.
It had been Madison who had tracked him down, not that he questioned why. She'd found him in the boy's toilets - again he didn't question her coming in, because it was Madison. She'd threatened to kick the door in if he didn't open it, not that Finley had refused. And after he'd opened the door for the Slytherin witch, she'd pulled him in to a hug and told him something that he couldn't remember anyone else ever really saying.
"Well done with the spell." She'd said, giving him a small wink before walking off as if nothing had happened, telling him he could stay or follow her. He'd opted for the latter, only to find himself up in the Room of Requirement with the witch. They'd sat quietly for some time, until she'd told him he would have to tell Professor Ellingston of the progress. Finley had nodded his agreement and they'd fallen back in to the silence and relaxation that had started.
All the while Finley had wondered why it had been Madison of all people, but he never said it.
Coming back to the now, Finley noted they'd arrived at the class without him realising and he gave Professor Newbury a smile, following Naomi to the edge of the class and putting his bag down. Naomi was chattering, whilst Finley kept quiet, looking to the board and trying to place the spell that was noted there. |

| Bennett's next class was much better and happier - regardless of the subject's tones - than Potions. Mainly, he was just glad to be out of the dungeons and out of sight from Balan, besides, Professor Newbury was a much better professor. Bennett walked at a normal pace, not in a hurry and most definitely not wanting to be late, but the crowd in front of him got heavier in the blink of an eye, and Bennett was swallowed by the mass of students. They were all going to different directions, and they were all trying and hoping to make it on time. Unable to blame them, he picked up the pace once he was out of the human traffic and sighed in relief when the corridors cleared out a bit. Of course, the chances of a hallway being empty were very slim, but there were only about five students walking by him and that was welcomed.
When he arrived, Bennett didn't even lift an eyebrow in surprise when he saw Finley and that girl had made it before him. What was her name? Didn't really matter. He didn't smile at them this time, he just walked in and took a spot by them. Not next to them, but close enough so that he wouldn't feel too isolated. Sometimes, he really wanted to sit with someone, and other times he just wanted to be left alone. Newbury's class didn't have seats, though, and that was one of the things that Bennett liked and hated about it. His bag slipped to the floor as he looked at the board. The Verdimilious Charm. "Hmm." Bennett had no clue what the spell was, what it looked like, what it smelt like, or what it felt like, so that was exciting.

| Jacques had dawdled up to Defence Against the Dark Arts. Whilst the class was more practical, he found that sometimes it was a little lacking. Though, it was more likely due to the fact the professor was teaching you to defend yourself from the Dark Arts, rather than using them.
Slipping in to the room, Jacques noted the usual faces and moved to stand on his own towards the back of the room. Friends were not something the Slytherin had, truth be told, but being alone didn't bother him. He could watch the others and analyse if he wanted to. But, for the most part, he kept to himself because he wasn't sure how to approach other people, especially those of a lesser blood status than himself.
Looking towards the board, Jacques sifted through his mind to place the spell written down. Once he had, he smiled to himself, this could be interesting, he thought. ________________________________________________

| Defense Against the Dark Arts was the class that had the most interesting reading, or so Evelyn thought. It also had the most books about it because there were so many defensive spells. As she prepared herself for class, she ran over in her head some of the spells that may be useful for today. Not knowing what she was going into, she didn't know which to focus on if any.
As she entered the classroom, she dropped her bag along the wall and greeted the professor. It was the same professor she had fr Flying and it made her smile, not having to have a different professor for every class. Seeing as there seemed to be no desks in the class, she stood along the wall, away from her classmates.
On the board was the name of a charm that she definitely remembered. It sent red sparks out the caster's wand, however, there wasn't much else about it, or at least not that she remembered and she didn't often forget things. |

| The first two students through the door did not surprise Jake in the slightest. Smiling brightly to the two Ravenclaws that had entered, Jake replied to their greetings before considering Naomi's question. "She's doing well, thank you." He replied softly, his smile growing a little as he thought of his girlfriend and 'bump' as Jake had fondly named their expected child. Even if Veronika wasn't showing yet, he liked the idea of there being three of them.
When a few more students came in, Jake gave them a small smile, waiting for the clock to reach the hour mark before he started his class. "Okay everyone, I think it's time we made a start, don't you?" Jake asked the class as a whole. "For those who don't know me, my name is Jake, please don't call me Professor, or Professor Newbury, I'm not nearly old enough for that." He insisted with a small smile.
"Now, today we will be looking at the Verdimilious Charm - can anybody tell me what this is?" Jake prompted, looking around the room for an answer. ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~

| Finley hated speaking in classes. Beyond anything in the world, he would prefer not to speak in front of so many people, but the problem was, nobody else seemed to want to answer the professor in that moment. It was a little odd, Naomi not answering, but he decided that, so they could move on, he would answer.
Raising his hand, very slowly in case someone else might beat him to it, Finley waited to be called upon for his answer.
Unfortunately, Finley was the only one who had raised his hand, and he managed to stifle the frustrated sigh that built up in him in that moment. Instead, the Ravenclaw concentrated on his breathing, in the hope of managing his stutter.
"The..." Finley paused, focusing on Jake at the front of the class. "The V-Verdimillious Charm is used t-to reveal objects that are c-concealed by Dark M-Magic." Finley explained to the professor, a small, hopeful smile on his lips as he waited to be told if he was right, or not. |

| Not surprisingly, Judah had gotten caught up with other things and completely forgotten about Defense class. He wasn't concerned about it, though. He was sure that because he was a first year and still trying to find his way around the castle he could get away with being a few minutes late. Never mind that it was almost the end of the term. He would drag that excuse until he was 100% certain he couldn't get away with it anymore.
His blond curls fell on his face, a sad reminder that when school was over his mother would make him get a haircut. Pushing them aside, Judah quickened his step because even though he didn't mind being late he also didn't want to be incredibly late that the lesson was over before he arrived. After a couple of minutes, the classroom became visible and Judah grinned. He wasn't THAT late.
Pushing the door open, only so much for his skinny self to walk through, he grinned in victory. Even if he lost a few points, he could always gain them back by participating. An older student - well, older than Judah - had been saying something about dark magic and objects, and Judah caught only the very end of his response. Still, he moved up towards the crowd, his book bag still on him, and prepared himself to get further instructions, or questions. |

| As the answer came from Finley, Jake gave the Ravenclaw his full attention, nodding along to the answer he was giving. When the boy finished, Jake beamed in the boy's direction. "Very good, Finley, take five points for Ravenclaw." Jake insisted, moving the class along in that moment.
"Okay, so today, I have put some Dark - but very safe so long as you don't undo the containers - objects around the room for you to try and find. I don't want anyone to touch the objects, despite them being safe, I simply want you to point them out to me and then I will dispose of them correctly." Jake explained to the class. "You can work on your own, or in small groups if you like, but everyone needs to give the spell ago.
"If you're having any problems, please let me know and I will come and assist you." Jake explained, motioning for them to start the search of the room before them. ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~
