Daniel did not feel comfortable standing in the classroom of his colleague. The absence of Professor Newbury seemed to be heavier here than it had been on the Quidditch Pitch. The school did not yet know of the professor's absence as a whole, but he was sure the rumours would quickly spread around the school.

There wasn't a lot Daniel could tell the students, either, because it was all very well played down by the Ministry. Instead, Daniel just had to work with the knowledge he did have - that he was one professor down and had to cover the class.

Seeing as Daniel didn't have a very strong knowledge on Defence Against the Dark Arts, he'd opted for a theory lesson. Yes, his students probably wouldn't like that, but he didn't see a benefit in him teaching them practical. So, on the board was one word. Werewolves.

Knowing Jake wouldn't be attending his classes made Victoria feel reluctant to attend. It would be weird to go to his class and not see him there. But, the Head Girl knew that she had to lead by example, so even in this troublesome time, she had made her way to the classroom, on time and containing the nerves in the bottom of her stomach.

Entering the room, she noted the desks which made her almost instantly uncomfortable because it was so unlike their normal lessons. But she pushed through. Moving to the front of the room, Victoria took up a desk in the front row, taking out her books and quill and getting ready for the lesson.

"Good morning, professor." She greeted the Headmaster, giving him a small smile out of respect. She liked Professor Jameson a lot, and since they worked together a lot because of her role, it helped to settle her, if only a little bit.

Defence Against the Dark Arts Lesson Three - All Years Empty

As Naomi had already been down to Flying Lessons, Jake's absence from the Defense classroom didn't surprise her, although she was still agitated to see Headmaster Jameson in Jake's place.

"Hello Headmaster," Naomi greeted as she entered the classroom with Finley on her heels. They took up their customary seats as she scanned the board, catching sight of today's topic. She vaguely remembered a heated discussion about werewolves last year in Jake's class and she prepared to defend them again to the many prejudiced among wizard kind. Her Nana, Muggle though she was, had taught her early and often never to judge another 'til she'd walked a mile in their shoes, and as Naomi couldn't even imagine the hardships of being a werewolf, she reservered her judgment.

Leaning over to whisper to Finley, she asked quietly, "Do you think that the Thing happened to Jake?" she asked quietly. She hadn't wanted to ask after Flying, afraid of the answer.

Aaron made his way down to the Defense classroom, wondering why some of the students started whispering as they passed by the classroom. Taking one step inside, he felt his stomach drop. That's why. Professor Newbury was away and in his place was none other than the Headmaster. In this classroom was desks, and he knew this wasn't normal from the stories he had heard from everyone else.

Frowning, he took a seat, and looked around the classroom. He had some housemates, and the Head Girl was there as well, but he couldn't remember her name to save his life, but he was pretty that he heard that she was Professor Newbury's sister or something like that.

He turned to look at the Headmaster once more, his face blank. "Good Morning." Was all he said and all he planned on saying. if there was a question he thought he wanted to answer, but if not, he would be like a shadow for the rest of class.

Alberi walked to his next class. He knew that it wasn't going to be with professor Newbury, considering on what everyone was talking about and the fact that he didn't see him in his Flying lesson. He hoped it would be with the Headmaster like last time - Alberi liked the guy not because he was Headmaster but because of the way he taught. And the lesson be taught as well.

Walking inside he first looked to see who the teacher was. Yep, it wasn't professor Newbury. And gladly it was the Headmaster. Not showing his glee though, he looked around the room. Desks? So they will have a theory lesson. He saw on the board that that was exactly it. Great! He was sure to do well, he may not be even near perfect in practices use of Magic but when it came to knowing and remembering...

Walking to he front row, he quickly got out a piece of parchment, a quill and his book. They were bound to use at least one or two of these things, after all. He liked up to the board so he could remember what he knew. Werewolves... Who actually didn't know what all werewolf was? Alberi wondered what it must be to be one. Horrible, surely. He made a mental note to not make himself an enemy with a werewolf.

Finley knew that the absence of Professor Newbury was going to be a problem for Naomi. After all, he knew more than most people possibly could in the castle. Well, almost all of them. Finley's eyes flickered to the Head Girl, giving her a small smile that he hoped wouldn't upset her, before hurrying to his seat. "P-professor." Finley acknowledged the Headmaster, managing to meet the man's eyes for a moment before looking away.

Taking out his books for the lesson, Finley had just made himself comfortable when Naomi asked him the question he'd been waiting for.

"Do you think that the Thing happened to Jake?"

Looking back a little at Victoria - trying not to be obvious - Finley's eyes moved back to Naomi. "I t-think so." He murmured, motioning very subtly towards the Head Girl who didn't seem quite as happy as she usually did. But... It could have been anything. "H-he'll be f-fine." Finley tried to assure his best friend, though he couldn't even begin to understand what she was going through in that moment.

As the class filled up - though not nearly as much as he'd of thought it would - Daniel smiled to each of the students in turn. True, his smile was a little tighter than he might of liked, but it was a smile no less. The kids deserved that much, at least.

"Right, good morning everyone." Daniel spoke, his voice clear in the room, but not too loud. "As you will have noted by now, your usual professor is not here. He will be back in the new year." Daniel explained, not going in to details because he didn't have many more.

"Today we will be looking at werewolves. Or, more specifically, combating or defending yourself against one." Daniel explained, though it would be theory based, he hoped this would entice those in the class to participate. "But, first, who can define what a werewolf is?" He asked, looking around the faces for an answer.

Creatures had always been a subject of interest to Phillip - particularly dragons, but all creatures fascinated him. Phillip was excited to start this lesson albeit a bit confused about Professor Newbury's whereabouts. Something about an Auror mission gone awry, he thought he'd heard floating around. Phil should've been the one to most about gossip and he didn't. So he thought now was as good a time as any to ask, he raised his hand for Professor Jameson to pick on.

"Hey Professor Jameson, what happened to Professor Newbury?" He asked before adding, "I mean not to say that werewolves aren't important, sorry to drag the attention elsewhere but y'know I'm real curious." He paused before adding hurriedly. "Well to answer your question too about werewolves, they're humans who under the rise of a complete full moon turn into a near deadly wolf." He bared his teeth jokingly and snapped his jaws like a wolf before stopping and grinning impishly at the Professor hoping that his jaunt wasn't offensive.

After Transfiguration, Sumire pulled her hair into a high ponytail and brushed her bangs to the side, finding that April offered a bit of a climate change to the usual crispness. She found the climate change to be entirely too pleasant and she enjoyed the warmth. She was glad however, it wasn't a New York type of heat that was sweltering and overbearing completely. It was still rather cold, but the heat that was there was tender and nice, soothing her skin and making her feel warmer. She had a script packed away in her bag for later so she could study after Ancient Runes before Potions class, and a notebook full of information about her Veela heritage that Felix had gotten for her.

Her heart had swelled with hope and pride when he mailed her that notebook; she'd never expect him to take such an avid interest in her blood heritage. He teased her often saying that her heritage made sense, calling her too enticing for her own good. Her face never failed to flush at that memory, but she pushed it away as she focused on her DAtDA lesson.

"Werewolves are injected with an infection known as lycanthropy, a notable werewolf was Remus Lupin from the Second Wizarding War," she added to the Gryffindor's assessment.

Daniel probably should have just explained to the class at the beginning as to where the other professor had been. But there was the manner in which he explained, trying not to cause panic amongst the students. So, with a small sigh (more to himself than at the Gryffindor who had asked) Daniel gave a nod. "Very well." He responded, looking around the class. "As many of you might be aware, Professor Newbury has two jobs, one here at the school, the other in the Ministry as an Auror.

"Last week, he was on a mission with the Aurors and, unfortunately, there was a mishap that left Professor Newbury in St Mungos. He's recovering, and I can promise you he will be fine, but he will not be back this term." Daniel told them patiently. "I don't know any more details, I'm sorry." He added, because he truly didn't know anything more. "My office is open to talk further on this, should anyone wish."

With that out of the way, Daniel turned to the lesson, hoping to keep everyone's attention focused.

"Correct, Mr-" Daniel paused, then started again. "Correct, Phillip, though, please not with the theatrics." He told the Gryffindor, not quite sure if the display could be deemed offensive. The next answer made Daniel smile because it was true. "Correct, Sumire, Remus Lupin was perhaps one of the best werewolf examples you could pick in this moment, a man who did not give in.

"Now then, knowing what a werewolf is isn't going to be enough to combat the creature." Daniel explained, motioning to the board that was showing a transfiguration in a chalk drawing. "Does anyone know how you can prevent being attacked by a werewolf?" He ventured, looking around for someone else to answer.
