| With the classroom tidied to the highest degree since the departure of the younger students, Josh had taken a moment to ready the room for the sixth and seventh years. The students closer to his age. He didn't much care for his peers, and if they couldn't handle him teaching, they would be kicked straight out of his classroom. The desks were set out so that no one could sit next to anyone else, because Josh didn't wish to hear idle chatter.
A cauldron stood in place on each desk, along with a copy of the textbook for their level of potioneering. No excuses over forgetting their stuff could be given now, no time wasted.
On the board in Josh's neat, cursive handwriting were the words Draught of Living Death, showing what they would be doing for the lesson. The Slytherin prefect stood before his desk, arms folded across his chest and icy blue eyes trained to the door. Merlin help anybody who tried anything this lesson, because Josh was simply not the kind of man to put up with it. |

| When Victoria had seen a fellow students name on the list of Professors for this term, she'd been highly confused. She knew it wasn't unheard of, but for their level it seemed like quite the opposite of what they should have for their N.E.W.T. level exams. But, Victoria being Victoria was ready to jump in to this wholeheartedly, Josh didn't seem like too bad a guy, so it couldn't hurt, right?
Skipping down to the dungeons, the first thing Victoria noted as she entered the potions classroom was the strong smell of disinfectant. Cleanliness, perhaps. It seemed that she wasn't far wrong with the nearly sparkling clean surfaces she was met with. With a smile towards Josh, Victoria sat down at the front of the class.
"Good morning." Victoria greeted happily, not sure whether to call him professor of Josh, or... well, she didn't know what else, actually. Looking to the board, Victoria grinned to herself, complex potions. Great! ________________________________________________

| Perhaps the name was a misprint on her timetable but that notion was soon put aside after entering the potions class. At first she thought she was in the wrong room, it smelled too clean, and the desks were...well separated. Louise checked the door again and the corridor before entering fully and picking a desk to the left of the room, seating herself and giving Josh a small smile in greeting but said nothing. This would be interesting, he seemed the serious type at least so she doubted anyone would try their luck in the class. She hoped not anyway.
While waiting for others to turn up she picked up the textbook and flicked through to the draught's page, looking over the recipe beforehand sos he could get everything she needed, making a few notes on the side in a notebook of the ingredients. Professor was nestled in her book bag under her chair, he'd been properly told off for appearing in class so he was pouting and being quiet and out of the way for now. |

| The class itself was small, not that Josh minded. He didn't much want a lot of people, that would cause way too much noise and he simply didn't wish to deal with such things. Glancing at the clock to see that the time for class to begin had loomed over them, Josh decided to crack on, and Merlin help anyone who was late.
"There will be no need for talking in this room, unless answering questions or asking me a question. You will not talk to one another, you will concentrate. And Merlin help anyone who makes a mess of this room." Josh started without warning. His voice didn't raise from more than a whisper in that moment, but he knew he had control of the room regardless.
"For those of you bothering to pay attention, you will note that we are studying the Draught of Living Death. Someone tell me what it does, and what makes it useful." Josh drawled, not overly interested in teaching, but putting up enough of a front to get things done regardless. |

| The moment class started, Victoria knew there wasn't going to be any nonsense. From the small prefect meetings they'd had, Victoria had noted that he wasnt the kind of person who liked to talk much, and she respected that. So, the rules came as no surprise to her, and she would most certainly stick to them to make sure Josh's life was made easier.
Raising her hand the moment the question was asked, Victoria waited to be chosen and then began her answer in her usual bright manner, a manner that showed her confidence on the situation. "The Draught of Living Death is used to put the drinker in to a very deep sleep, so deep that you might mistake them as dead. You would need to give the drinker a Wiggenweld Potion to wake them up, it is said." She answered, giving Josh a small smile before waiting for the instructions, or even the next question to come. ________________________________________________

| With the answer from the Head Girl, Josh nodded once and flicked his wand towards the board. The instructions started to appear on the board, line by line. "Today you will be making the potion, please don't ingest it. The instructions are on the board, if you need help, raise your hands, otherwise, hand me a vial at the end of the lesson and I will mark your work." Josh explained, his voice still not raising above a normal level as he spoke.
"If there are no questions, begin." He added, waving them off to get their supplies. Josh simply took a seat at his desk, waiting for someone to call upon him for help.
1. Add the Infusion of Wormwood. 2. Add the powdered root of asphodel. 3. Stir twice clockwise. 4. Add the sloth brain. 5. Add the Sopophorous bean's juice. 6. Stir seven times anti-clockwise. |

| Once the instructions were up and they were given permission to begin Louise made her way to the supplies cupboard to pick up the ingredients she didn't have in her kit, using her wand to levitate them back to her desk. Making sure she didn't drop them.
It took some time to prepare them, having to fiddle around a little with one hand but she'd prepared them all before starting the actual brewing process. After a while she began to loose herself in the brewing, following the steps to the letter. Like when she cooked her sweets and cakes the making of potions came fairly easily as she lost herself in the recipe, though potions was a little harder she could still let her mind wander a bit while making it, always keeping an eye on the steps and the cauldron.
Two thirds of the way through she summoned a small towel from her bag to wipe her face and pulled her hair back from it and continued on. By the end of the lesson she'd checked her potion, it looked clear like the book described how it should look. She just hoped it was effective and bottled up a sample of it before banishing the rest.
She brought the vial to the front, with her initials labled on the front, smiling at Josh she left the vial with him before returning to her desk to clear her equipment away. |

| Victoria smiled when she was correct, though she hadn't really doubted herself for a moment. The instructions were quite clear, and Victoria didn't need to wait around for the professor to know that she needed to get on. So the moment he said to start, Victoria was on her feet, following Louise to get the ingredients. She didn't speak to the Slytherin, instead simply giving her a small smile as they passed.
With the ingredients in her arms, Victoria hurried back to her cauldron, putting it on a low heat and pouring in the standard base potion for every potion. Whilst that began to simmer, she checked her book for the instructions - despite trusting the professor to not mess with the instructions, she didn't wish to jeopardize her grade through carelessness.
First the infusion of wormwood was added to the mixture with a steady hand, not pouring too quickly, not too slow. The witch smiled to herself with the small reminder of her old house at Salem, though it fell short as she remembered why she was not here. Putting the vial down, Victoria took a deep breath to push away such thoughts before continuing on with the potion. The powdered root of asphodel was evenly shook across the surface of the potion before she reached for her stirring rod.
The two stirs in the clockwise motion were careful to mix everything in as best she could, standing back for a brief moment to wipe her forehead of the small beads of sweat that had formed from leaning over the heat.
Adding the sloth brain was a little disgusting in Victoria's mind, but after carefully lowering it (with a small grimace on her face) in to the potion, she didn't think about it again. The bean, Victoria gently crushed, squeezing the juice out of it with all of her might, hoping there would be enough for the potion to work in the correct manner. With the final seven anti-clockwise stirs, Victoria checked the colour to the one shown in her book and smiled to herself triumphantly. It was a difficult potion, but she'd managed it successfully.
Filling a vial, Victoria moved to the front, passing hers to Josh and making her way back to her desk, wiping it down and banishing the potion that she didn't need. Making sure everything was put away that she hadn't used, Victoria sat at her desk, reading about the spell until they were told it was time to go. ________________________________________________

| Watching both the witches work with little and less interest, Josh sat at the desk that had been deemed his and pulled out his potions book, reading through the pros and cons of different variations of the potion. Some things made it stronger, others changed the taste, the texture. There were endless possibilities, but never enough time to use them completely.
As both witches brought him their vials, Josh simply nodded, before waving them out of the door, both seemed to be the right colour, but he would have to test them before he graded them to make sure they were of the right quality for them to pass his class.
