Potions Lesson Two - Fifth to Seventh Years Empty
PostSubject: Potions Lesson Two - Fifth to Seventh Years   Potions Lesson Two - Fifth to Seventh Years EmptyMon Jun 01, 2015 10:50 pm

The castle was getting in the mood for Christmas, and James still didn't feel like he'd settled in to his role as a teacher. He'd skipped the Halloween Ball because he wasn't sure he'd have much fun, though the reports the next day told him he had in fact missed out. Perhaps Christmas would bring something he could enjoy? James wasn't sure.

The dungeons were cool, despite the house elves' best efforts to get it warm, the castle simply wasn't having it.

After the younger years had finished that morning, James had tidied the classroom once again and set the room up for the older years. Today, they would be looking at something both useful, and required for their exams. Though, James hadn't seen the use of a love potion n a long time, he wouldn't put it past Honeydukes to start selling chocolates with them in soon enough.

Today, James was teaching them the useful potion that was an antidote to love potions.

The snowy grounds made the dungeons cooler and colder, and Peter wasn't very happy about that. He liked the warmer months, the days he could spend outside running in shorts and it was alright, if he did so in this weather he would freeze to death. Stopping by the Common Room to get a jacket, Peter slipped it on quickly before making his way down the dungeons to find his Potions classroom. He had enjoyed the last lesson, so he hoped this one would be interesting as well.

As he walked in, he didn't bother greeting the professor. He knew the man didn't care the slightest about him, so Peter wasn't going to waste his time trying to be polite. Instead, he sat at the back row, his slim fingers tapping in the desk, as he waited for a familiar face to walk through the door. That girl Victoria surely had to attend, and if Effie did as well, then Peter could just work in his get-over-the-Gryffindor plan.

Potions. A quite interesting but also difficult lesson. She wasn't an expert but she could manage. But that was if she wasn't that tired or hungry. Her mind wouldn't function with an empty stomach, and today she managed to get up late, therefore she missed breakfast, and was wandering aimlessly until her lesson.

But her belly needed food. And fast.

"Please, let the elves hand me some food after lesson," she murmured to herself as she slowly made her way to class. She wanted sleep and food. And maybe a hug. But she certainly didn't want to walk through those wooden doors and do potions. She just wasn't in the mood.

But the blonde sighed and faced the floor as she slipped in the room quietly, as if not to make a sound. The less people knew her, the less humiliated she would be. This whole 'repeat the year' thing was getting worse.

Amalia's face was straight set as the witch walked to her Potions class, the small heels of her shoes clacking against the floor of the dungeons. She was used to the chill of the air by now, the way the candles seemed to only serve to make things a little gloomier; it was oddly satisfying to feel the soft pricks of goosebumps on her skin.

She pushed the door open and nodded respectfully at her professor, wondering why she hadn't noticed such a charmingly attractive man walking around the castle. She stopped caring after a few seconds, reminding herself that she wasn't allowed to think such things, and took a seat near the back, scanning the room for anyone she might know. A fellow Slytherin she'd never met, a Hufflepuff girl. No-one of interest, really - but that was to be expected.

Amalia didn't socialise.

Potions Lesson Two - Fifth to Seventh Years Empty
PostSubject: Re: Potions Lesson Two - Fifth to Seventh Years   Potions Lesson Two - Fifth to Seventh Years EmptySun Jun 07, 2015 12:38 pm

With Christmas approaching, Victoria had been making sure to help the Headmaster with the list of students who would be staying, and making sure there would be enough members of staff here to look after them. Everything seemed to be in order, so far as Victoria could tell, she'd put in the request for Christmas dinner with the house elves, leaving them happily checking through the list, before hurrying down the corridor to Potions.

The first lesson had been enjoyable, and despite the Professor's hard approach with them, she found she liked the man. Slipping through the door, Victoria smiled towards Peter, whom she was friends with, and the other two witches, before slipping in to her usual seat on the front row.

"Good morning, Professor." Victoria greeted the man, her smile radiant as ever. It took only a few moments to organise her books and quill on the desk, and Victoria was ready to learn.

It seemed only four people wanted to indulge him with their presence, but James wasn't too bothered by that. A smaller class would hopefully mean that they could get more done. Only one of them had greeted him, but James didn't really care for that, best to simply get on with the lesson.

"Right, looks like it's time to begin, if anyone turns up late, we'll just have to hope they think on their feet well." James explained, standing from his desk. "Today, we will be looking at what I should imagine will be quite useful a potion for those of you that do well in the relationship area. Though, even those who don't might find yourself needing this potion." James explained, looking between the four faces in the room.

"We will be looking at the antidote for love potions, now who can tell me about the potion? Detail would be nice, not single sentence answers. Though, I don't want plain facts. Be creative." James told them, because he didn't want the book to be regurgitated, he wanted them to engage their brains. Honestly, he didn't think that this was too much to ask.

Aiden was late. He was very late and that was so not cool, especially since his first lesson after lunch was Potions and he loved that subject like nothing else. He cursed quiet loudly as he ran towards the Potions Classroom.

The brunette took a deep breath before walking into the classroom. Thankfully it seemed that he had managed arrived just a few seconds before the topic of the lesson was told. Sitting at an empty desk, the brunette focused on the teacher before holding his hand up. That was a pretty easy question to answer.

"The Potion, Professor, would cure yourself from the symptoms of the Love Potion. It won't matter what love Potion it is. Whether it's a weakest one or the strongest one, the antidote will be able to cure it." Alright, that wasn't the most creative of answers but he dared anyone to make that answer creative. How could you answer a question creatively anyway?

Venus was running late. Again. She really need to get on top of things. Growing under her breath she walked silently into the class. A slytherin was spouting off about love potions. Reading the board quickly, she inwardly laughed. But maybe this would be helpful if she ever found herself in a sticky situation. She sat down near the middle without making a scene that she was only a couple of minutes late.

She quietly pulled out her books and notes, anything she was really going to need for the lesson. Once she had finished doing that she took to glancing around the room at her other classmates. All of them served to be listening, but the one who has apparently answered the professor's question seemed to have just arrive himself. She curiously wondered why. Shrugging, she thumbed her attention back to the professor and lesson, trying get hardest to ignore the cold that was now gripping her in the dungeon.

When only one answer came, and a textbook answer at that, James pursed his lips for a moment before nodding. It was a right answer, after all. "Correct." James told the boy shortly, moving to the board and flipping it over.

1. Add four Wiggentree twigs, or until the potion turns green.
2. Stir until the potion turns orange.
3. Add castor oil until the potion turns blue.
4. Stir until the potion turns purple.
5. Add extract of Gurdyroot until the potion turns red.
6. Add Wiggentree twigs.
7. Add Extract of Gurdyroot until the potion turns purple.
8. Leave the potion to simmer till it turns red.
9. Add more gurdyroot extract till it turns green.
10. Stir till it turns orange.
11. Add seven Wiggentree twigs.
12. Allow to simmer till it turns pink.

"Everyone get to making the potion. I'll take them in for marking at the end of the lesson. You will all work on your own. There will be no need for talking." James told them before waving them off to get on with the lesson.

Potions Lesson Two - Fifth to Seventh Years Empty
PostSubject: Re: Potions Lesson Two - Fifth to Seventh Years   Potions Lesson Two - Fifth to Seventh Years EmptyMon Jun 29, 2015 8:20 pm

Listening to the ever strict tone of their professor, Victoria nodded as the explanation was given, getting up from her desk when they were told to get on to collect her ingredients. This, Victoria took her time with because the better ingredients would give a more potent potion. Much more powerful.

She knew this from both books and experience, and capitalised on it.

Moving back to her desk, Victoria used one of the hair ties on her wrist to tie her hair back - something she rarely did, but knew was a necessity in this situation. With her attention on her work, and only her work, Victoria turned on the heat for the cauldron and began to follow each step as carefully as possible.

The twigs were easy, dropping them in one at a time until the colour changed to green. With a small, triumphant smile to herself, Victoria checked the book once more and then began to stir the cauldron, watching once more as the colour changed to orange.

It took Victoria a good half an hour to get through the steps at a good pace. Constantly checking everything she had done was right. By the end, her hair was a little bushier than usual due to the heat of the cauldron. But the potion had turned her favourite colour, and Victoria couldn't help but be grateful for that.

Raising her hand, Victoria spoke up. "Umm, professor, I believe I'm done." She explained with a warm smile, checking the potion one more time to be sure.
