The older years, Codey figured, would need to learn this at some point in their life. He did not truly expect many - if any - of them to get it right completely, but he was going to try, that was for sure. Besides, there was no harm in pushing his students.

"Non-verbal magic" was the title on the board, and with another flick of his wrist, the chalk lowered itself back down onto the table. There were single feathers on each of their desks - he intended to start with a simple charm. If they managed to accomplish this task, he would increase the difficulty depending on the person. Some were more capable than others, that much he knew.

Sitting on his desk - as usual; he found the position behind it much too strict for his liking - he waited for his students to arrive. He was much more relaxed this time round, because it was much easier and more predictable to deal with older teens than young children.

Effie walked in confidently to the classroom. She couldn't remember which one it was... Charms? She hoped so. That was what she brought her stuff for. She expected to be the last to show up, but unexpectedly she was the first. Even before PETER. If he was taking charms, she had no idea. She hadn't made it to the first lesson of charms and that she would have to explain to the professor to whom she didn't know his name.... She started thinking up some excuses. Like...she forgot she signed up for it. Yes. That one was good. She was taking quiet a load this term. So forgetting would be a valid excuse.

She slid in the desk and saw the professor. She said, "hello professor.... Ummm sorry forgot your name. I'm taking a lot of classes this term and managed to forget that I signed up for this one until now. Hope that's all right that I slip in now?" She crossed her fingers and hoped it would work. She wondered if Bella was taking charms... If so, her life got sooooo much easier. Especially if Peter was in the class. She still hadn't decided if she should tell him that she knew of his little crush. On one hand it would be cute to see him squirm of uncomfortableness, and on the other hand she wanted things to stay exactly the same.

She had talked to Bella about it loads of times but never managed to come with a conclusion, and ended up in the same spot she had been in before. She got out her notebook that was still fresh and new from the lack of times she showed up to class.. Oops... She needed to make a habit of showing up. Especially since she was nearing the end of her Hogwarts career. And what better lesson to show up to where he was going to teach non verbal magic?! Finally something interesting!

Charms Lesson 2 (Fifth to Seventh Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Charms Lesson 2 (Fifth to Seventh Years)   Charms Lesson 2 (Fifth to Seventh Years) EmptySun Jun 07, 2015 12:48 pm

With Charms on her list for the day, Victoria was excited. The first lesson hadn't given her a chance to get to know the Professor very much, but she was hoping that this lesson would give her the opportunity to. Victoria had always been the kind of person to try to get on with all their professors, even Professor Vane who had not been the nicest man in the world.

Slipping through the door just after a Gryffindor she only knew by name, Effie, Victoria moved towards the front of the class. Offering a soft 'Hi' to the witch, Victoria quickly settled in her chair, taking out her books, wand and a quill ready to take notes if they needed to. "Good morning, Professor Ellingston!" Victoria greeted the man, her smile as warm as it always was.

The board noted the subject for the day, and Victoria smiled to herself, this was going to be interesting. Very interesting indeed.

Chara had not liked the previous Professor for charms. He had been rude and arrogant, disrespecting everyone. She had written once to her parents, and they had replied with a promise to have the matter brought up. If they actually did - or if it was due to some other reasons, or possibly a combination of all these - the Professor was very quickly replaced with a Pureblood one.

Honestly, blood purity did not truly matter to her; as long as he was competent and able to do his job, that was all that mattered. The Ellingstons were known for their high positions, and while there had been rumours going around about this particular family member, she dismissed it once she realized he was a good Professor.

Stepping into class, her eyes travelled to the board and a small spark flashed in her eyes as she moved to the second row. "Morning, Professor," she greeted, sitting herself down and looking around the room. With a small pang of .. something.. she realized Alexander was not yet there. Hopefully he was not skipping the class, because it looked like a truly interesting lesson.

Alexander skipped a lot of classes, mostly because he was not a morning person. Therefore most, if not all, lessons that took place in the morning were instantly written off by the Slytherin. His parents were aware of the situation, but they couldn't do very much from their distance except send him letters detailing their 'disappointment' in his lack of interest for school.

But he knew they wouldn't pull him from the school, nor would he be kicked out from the school, because of the damage it would do to his family's reputation, and the damage it would do to the school funds.

However, today, Alexander had managed to get out of bed, and be vaguely ready for the lesson in a timely manner. Whether he had everything he needed would be another matter. Taking his time to get up to the lesson, Alexander noted when he opened the door that his fiance was in the room.

Moving to join her, Alexander didn't bother to pull out his book, instead looking towards Chara with a warm smile. "Good morning." He greeted the witch, not bothering to acknowledge anyone else.

There were only four students that arrived, but Codey didn't bother; if they wanted to learn, they would come. If they didn't, he wouldn't care about them. He helped those who wanted to learn, and those that couldn't give a rat's ass about studies, he would not give a rat's ass about.

Greeting those who greeted him, he offered polite smiles towards the others. Once the time for class came, Codey slid himself off the desk and stood, looking at them to make sure they knew it was time to get serious. "Good morning," he said, then motioned towards the board. There was no need for small talk; with the older class, he usually got straight down to business.

"As you can see, today we will be covering non-verbal spells. Can anyone tell me anything about it - how it can be done, what uses it has, etc?" He asked, looking around at the four students.

The short nature of the professor and his words was one that Victoria had mixed feelings about. It meant that they could get on with the lesson quicker, but it also made it seem like they had to keep up. Not that Victoria minded, she would keep up one way or another, but she couldn't help but worry other people might not keep up.

However, at the sound of a question, Victoria's hand shot up almost the instant the words had left the professor's lips, looking excited at the prospect of their subject. Waiting only long enough to be called upon, Victoria explained, the best she could.

"Non-verbal magic is one of the most complex branches of magic in our world. It is, of course, the use of magic without speaking, which for many people is impossible." She explained, pausing for a moment so everyone could keep up. "The best way to do magic non-verbally, is to have a very clear picture in your mind of what you are going to achieve. It is also easier to start with basic spells and work up, otherwise you won't learn so quickly."

Aiden was very thankful when he only arrived a minute or so after the start of the lesson. He had been stuck in the library waiting for the girl in front of him to sign her books out before he could sign his out. He had been waiting for there for ten minutes before he realized that he was about to miss the class. Thankfully she had finished signing them out when the bell rang. Unfortunately that meant he had missed the start of the lesson and that was not good. Not good at all.

In fact it was annoying and very upsetting as that meant his professor would quite probably be annoyed with him and would give him detention. Not that he cared about that. Detention wasn't really that bad of a thing, especially since most of the detentions meant catching up with the lesson or being able to finish your assignments.

Aiden waited for Victoria to finished speaking before he spoke up himself. "Non-Verbal magic is also a pretty good skill to have when you are duelling someone. If you don't speak the incantation out it will mean that if your opponent doesn't know their spells by color then you will be able to catch them off guard and possibly injure them."
