Charms: Lesson Two - Summoning Charm - Page 2 Empty

As Sean watched his student's faces after explaining to them the rules he was relieved to notice that none of them held any hostility on their faces; truthfully he wouldn't care if they did but it would make his job harder and he didn't want that. He was here to teach these kids and not coddle them or fold to their demands as if they were the kings or queens of this world, in this classroom Sean was the only authority and he didn't care who everyone else was.

Listening to the answers, Sean felt a smile threatening to appear on his lips but the male only nodded his head to the answers that were given by the lone Hufflepuff and the two Gryffindors. "Take five points each you three." He nodded to the three students, already memorizing their faces but he'd have to memorize their names as well. "That's correct; the Accio Charm is a summoning charm and will summon practically anything. Of course it also depends on your magical power how far you can summon things but it is possible for a Wizard to summon something from a very long distance but that is neither here nor there."

Tapping his wand to the table in front of him, Sean revealed the items that he would have students try to summon from different parts of the room. The feathers he left on the desk where they were but with a flick of his wand every other item on the table floated to different parts; a couple of books floated towards the back of he classroom, a few metal pieces -fairly heavy ones- floated over to the window where they settled on the sill and quite a handful of bags full of Muggle marbles -slightly lighter than the metal pieces but also heavy- settled on the left hand side of the room.

"Now then, for your practical today, I want you to try summoning these items from where you are currently sitting though before you do start summoning you may want to stand up just in case to give you a clear view of the item." Sean explained the lesson with a fairly easy-going smile on his face. "I don't want to see anyone trying to summon things that are not the items that appeared on the desk. If I see anyone doing stuff like that it will be a warning and a couple points lost. I will forgive if it was an accident but I'll know so do make sure where you point your wand."

He looked at everyone before nodding his head.

"Now, the wand movement for the Accio charm is fairly simple. It's just a simple half circle movement of the wand." The man explained as he moved his wand in a half circle, fairly easily summoning one of the metal pieces to himself. "Before you start summoning any of the heavier stuff start on the feathers as they are the lightests and won't hurt if you accidently hit someone with it. You may begin."

"Yeah... I'm okay." Theo told the professor when he'd been asked if he was okay. Pushing a smile on to his lips, so that he could try to pull that one off, Theo sat quietly until the lesson began. Truthfully, the Hufflepuff didn't know what the Accio Charm was. Or, he didn't think he'd known until someone had explained that it was the Summoning Charm. Mentally facepalming for not knowing that, Theo listened intently to the professor, nodding along as he understood what was going on.

When they were told to give it a go, Theo took his wand from his pocket and looked over towards the feathers that the professor had asked them to start with. The second year stood up, but stayed at his desk, having a clearer view of the feathers, he moved his wand like the professor had, and said, quite confidently, "Accio." One feather - Theo hadn't been concentrating on just one, and therefore was being too unspecific in his attempt - gave a tremble, but didn't come towards him.

Frowning, Theo did the same thing again, changing nothing. The feather simply trembled again, and the Hufflepuff boy let out a sigh, wondering where he was going wrong.
