Charms: Lesson One - Summoning Charm (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Charms: Lesson One - Summoning Charm (All Years)   Charms: Lesson One - Summoning Charm (All Years) EmptyWed Apr 27, 2016 1:57 pm

For her first Charms class, Sabrina had decided not to leave anything on the students' desks. Instead, hanging without strings from the ceiling were strips of paper, all slightly shimmering and in different colours. To an outsider, it looked as if Sabrina had set up the classroom to look like some sort of tent in a circus. Upon closer look, however, what looked like glitter on paper were actually odd shapes that seemed to blink like fairy lights, solidifying only upon the touch of a student's hand.

It was pretty, and quite advanced Charms work, if Sabrina could say so herself. The point of the lesson, however, was not to make illustrations twinkle on paper. The point was that since they were hanging high above the students, the students would have to figure out a way to reach them without standing on desks or having to fly on a broomstick.

Of course, Sabrina would be teaching them how to do just that. Summoning Charm was one of her favourite spells—it was practical and efficient, and it could even save a life if the witch or wizard thinks quickly and rationally. Once she was sure the strips of paper were in place, she turned to the board, on which there was a puzzle that could only be completed if all the students manage to summon all the strips of paper.

The puzzle was an illustration of the next charm they would be studying, and since the strips of paper were so tiny and irregular and the illustration glimmering, her students wouldn't be able to just make a fake strip of paper to attach to the board. She knew it wasn't necessary at all, but Sabrina liked to challenge her students and to push them into becoming better team players as well.

With her preparations done, she took a seat and read a book as she waited for her students to arrive.

Humphrey wanted to be there a little bit before class so he could get settled and ready for his first Charms lesson of the year. Usually he was a pretty energetic person who had a hard time staying calm, but the first day of each class was always even harder than the others. The opportunity to practice magic again, and learn new things or get better at old things was always interesting. Unless his dad was home to talk him through things, he didn't really get much help with his work at home. His mom was smart, but she was a muggle so would never fully understand exactly how things worked.

As he walked into the class he was happy to see that he was in fact the first one there today, and he took his book and went to the second row closest to the front before plopping it down on the desk gently. "Hello, Professor Caro!" he said happily, his voice a little louder than he'd meant it to be because of his excitement. Looking a little sheepish, he blushed slightly in embarrassment before closing his eyes and taking deep breaths to calm down a little. Once he was feeling better he opened his eyes again and began looking around the room with a smile on his face.

Curiously, there seemed to be small strips of paper floating in the air above them. He doubted the teacher would want them standing on their desks in an attempt to get them down. Briefly, he skimmed through his book for a moment before his eyes lit up. Humphrey had a suspicion on what charm they would be doing today. Looking at the illustration of the wand movement and the instructions, he began going over the summoning charm. After practicing the movement he set his wand down and started softly murmuring 'accio' to himself. Hopefully, he was right; but, even if he wasn't it was good practice.

Mackenzie didn't know much about Charms to be honest because most of her time was spent reading books about dragons or handling her families creatures. When she saw the class, her mouth made the hint of a frown but it was quickly replaced by a smile as she skipped onwards to the class. She was sure she could excel at this class as well if she tried hard enough and try hard she would because Mackenzie Eleanor O'Brien didn't fail and she certainly didn't quit or give up.

Luckily for her, Charms was on the same floor as Defense Against the Dark Arts so she'd have no issues being late to class or anything due to being stuck on a trick staircase. Mackenzie entered the classroom and the first thing that caught her eye was the strips of paper hanging from the ceiling. She had no possible clue what that could hint at for the lesson so she'd simply wait for the professor to announce today's lesson. Smiling, she turned and greeted the professor before moving to a desk and giving a slight wave to the boy she'd practically mulled over in Diagon Alley.

Alberi was hoping he won;t be late. He had managed to finish his last book and needed to take a new one. Of course, that to either go to his dorms and get another one. Sadly, he would never be able to make it on time for class if he began to stray too much off track. Though, in reality, it was the fact that he didn't want to be out of breath that made him decide not to go there. However, as he walked to the Charms class, he remembered that the library was on the same floor as the classroom. How had he forgotten that, he would never find out. Smirking a bit to himself, he quickly walked towards the library and returned the book he had taken, before searching for another one. He didn't have much time to search thoroughly, but any book worked for him, as long as it didn't have things that he had already read about. It would have been a waste of time.

Choosing on a book on Eastern mythological creatures, he began to walk towards Charms. He picked that book because he had never really been interested enough in the East to read about it, only really reading about European mythology. He probably wouldn't remember half the things in the future but it gave him something new to read about until he could get back to his better books.

Walking inside, he noticed something pretty strange. The classroom ceiling was in strange glittering strips of paper all over. He frowned as he glared at them. What the hell could the professor want from them to do? Or perhaps she was just weird and liked to have strange decorations around her classroom. He really hoped for the first, he didn't want to come every hour here and have floating pieces of colours over his head. Greeting the professor, he tried to think of what else she could possible want from them with the papers.

The fourth year made her way towards one of the two classes that was actually worth her time: Charms. Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts were the two classes that in her opinion were worth a powerful witch such as herself's time. The girl hug her books close to her chest, her spine staying as aligned as possible to give off the prim and proper look she always managed to lug around. Truthfully Severine was tired however she refused to show it because she knew that if it got back to her parents, she'd be in for a lecture and possibly more classes on how to now ruin their family name and that was no way to spend a summer.

The girl strolled into class elegantly and noticed that she was not the first student, but also that the lesson had yet to begin meaning she was not late. "Madamoiselle Caro," Severine greeted the professor in her slightly thick French accent, her lips curling into the sweetest smile she could muster and she bent over and gave the professor a cursty. The woman was new and it was always best to get on the professor's good side, but most importantly, Severine must always greet someone elder to her as it was respectful. The girl stood upright once more and made her way to a nearby empty desk and placed her books atop. She pretended to not notice the colourful strips hanging and instead, crossed her ankles, folded her palms together and placed them on her books.

If Brooklyn could she would have totally skipped the class, but she knew that if she did then her mother and grandparents would hear about it and she'd have to hear their mouths and she already had a headache from their yelling when she told them in a joking matter how she was going to blow someone up if they dared try to talk to her, but of course her mother and grandparents took it to heart and the yelling ensued. She hated when they couldn't take a joke, like yeah in ways she could be serious but she wasn't a murderer.

The Slytherin entered Charms and took a look at her surroundings and made sure she was by herself and with no one else. She didn't want to deal with others, especially not when she was in one of her moods. Her eyes caught sight of the kid Humphrey and she couldn't help but smirk at his sister's nickname for him. It was still funny until this very day. She rolled her eyes and waited for the damn class to start so she could get the hell out of there just as quickly as she got in there.

Slowly, Chrisy made her way to class. Charms had been one of the things she had passed, although just barely, and even then it had only been the practical aspect of things. Theory and written work was just not her forte, and although the actual casting was no problem, she couldn't help but feel useless at the subject. Still, she had to go for class, and so, wishing she could spend all day in bed instead, she stepped into the class.

The things on the top of the class caught her attention, and she wondered what they were; they looked so pretty, so colourful, that for a moment they reminded her of butterflies in a field. That would make an amazing thing to try and paint, she decided, but then pushed the thought away at once with a sigh. There was no time to even think about art or anything to do with drawing, not if she wanted to make up for being denied advancing up a year.

Sliding into a seat near the back, she made sure her sleeves covered her arms and sat, waiting for the lesson to begin.

Elleon climbed the steps to the third floor, Jelena by his side an in an animated debate with her about the interpretation of the painting "The Treachery of Images" or better known as "This is not a pipe". He was almost sure he'd convinced Jelena of the artist's original intent for the painting when something twinkling caught his eye and he looked up to find they had arrived at the classroom. Being deaf, Elleon had developed a more sensitive sense of sight, smell, taste and touch and the slightest stimuli could trigger any of those senses. His hands paused in their speech as his eyes widened at the sight in front of him.

"What is that?" he asked Jelena after recovering from the sight.

"You expect me to know what the professor is teaching? Go in and find out, dumbo!" was her cheerful reply.

Elleon swatted her gently on the shoulder before stepping into the classroom. "Hi Professor Caro," he greeted, knowing Jelena would interpret for him. He took a seat near the front, needing to be able to see the professor's lips to know what she said. He knew if he missed anything, Jelena could always interpret for him but he wanted to be more independent and not always rely on her. The glimmering things were very distracting for him and he hoped class would start soon. Charms was yet another verbal class which meant more work for him but it looked like today's one would be interesting.

Charms was probably one of the practical subjects she enjoyed more than the others. Perhaps it was because the professor was Asian but Mei Xin refused to label herself as 'racist'. She was in for a surprise though as she entered the classroom. Hanging from the ceiling were pieces of paper that twinkled. She took a moment to let her eyes wander the ceiling before walking fully into the classroom.

"Hi, Professor Caro!" she greeted. "Wah! Today's class so seem seem ling, wan?" she commented. "Eh, you decorate very nicely lah!"
[Seem seem ling: a Cantonese phrase describing shiny things.]

Mei Xin glanced around the room to find a seat for herself. Spotting an empty one beside a fellow Claw, she made her way to the back of the classroom. "Excuse me!" she said, trying to get the attention of the girl. "Got anyone sitting here ah?" she asked, motioning to the seat beside the girl.

Arden was in his element now, he loved Charms and was ready for whatever challenge was thrown at him. He hoped that today's class was something challenging and that would help him out with a lot of work that he was dying to learn. When he pranced into class, he only saw two familiar faces before he took a seat and waited and hoped Audrina would arrive. The two weren't identical, but they were fraternal and that still made the two twins.

The Ravenclaw took out his notepad and wrote his name in the top hand corner. He didn't know why he did that but he guessed it was because of complete and utter boredom. The young boy waited for the class to start as he continued to trace his name over and over again and his guess was that the ink was on the table due to what it was he was doing.
