| [[OOC: Sorry the post is long; the only important part is the last two paragraphs.]]
At the sight of Mathew putting on the gloves, Blake made it an explicit point to neither glance his way or falter in any means, instead smiling and greeting the other students that arrived. Mathew was not stupid, not by a long shot, and Blake was calling on his training to maintain his cover as a bumbling idiotic Professor that talked too much and posed no threat.
As he started the lesson, he was surprised to find Stephanie the first to answer; as a Pureblood (and a Richardson) it was both interesting and amusing to him that she not only attended his classes but seemed somewhat interested in them.
He nodded at her answer. "Good. Five points for that," he said. "In addition to that, though, they do have identification cards for certain jobs, just like anywhere would, really, and so that can be used for idenfitication. But those can be easily faked -- I know of people who used fake identification to buy things; of course, they eventually got caught which is why we know about them, but they got away at the point of using it -- and so not entirely trustworthy. The wand is still the best way."
What he didn't add was that wands could also be easily obtained. For example, the wand he had on him was not technically his; it wasn't the one he used on a daily basis when he wasn't being someone else. It was one specifically used for his undercover jobs so that, should anyone somehow get a hold of his wand, it would only register to 'Blake Mason, professor'.
Then Mathew began to answer, and Blake, for the first time, acknoweldged him properly besides the original greeting, turning his attention to him. Not allowing his eyes to travel to the gloves, he nodded at the answers given. "Ten points for that full answer," he said, when the Hufflepuff had ended. "That's very well done."
"Thank you for your honesty, Elleon," he added, as the other Hufflepuff went on. "Take five points."
He paused, giving away no signs of concern or anything other than being pleased with what had been said, and then said to the class, "As Mathew has pointed out the Muggle system seems to be more foolproof than that of us wizarding folk; they do, after all, have more than two means of finding out who someone is. Around the world -- and each country has a different system, but it works more or less the same -- people are issued ID cards, called different things, that have a specific number to them. If you think about it, it's kinda like mumbering the sheep in a flock, but in a way that seems more humane. If you lose your card, you could get in trouble. There are also passports that people need in order to travel between countries so they can keep tabs on who is going where."
Blake shrugged. "And yet identity theft is easy, as Mathew has also pointed out. Things can be faked if you know the right people and there are people out there who can change your face through surgery -- they cut your face and other parts open and put stuff in or take stuff out when you're passed out and can't feel anything."
Motioning to the packs on their table, Blake said, "Today's lesson is easy; we will be exploring the methods of collecting fingerprints. Now, fingerprints are unique, meaning there are no two people in the world who have the same ones, so your fingerprints are your own. They are also hard to match; only experts can truly tell if two prints match or not, considering they smudge easily. Now, Mathew is right; you should be careful about giving your fingerprints out willingly to strangers. But this is a classroom and I'm a Professor, and you're children. What could I do with your fingerprints? Unless you're in WITSEC or something -- if you don't know what that means, you're not in it, don't worry -- I see no harm in this. I wouldn't make this your classwork if it wasn't safe. After all, your safety is my priority as your Professor."
"Your classwork for today is to 'print' yourself. Both hands, all fingers. When you're done, try and look closely at them. See the lines and whatnot. If you want you can compare your fingerprints with your friends. Try and get them to be as clear as possible on your paper. Then, write your name on top and hand it in." |

| Wesley was running late, and oh how he wished he wasn't. He knew he should have been better with his timing, but he'd been put on the wrong course by a set of stairs that had changed their mind halfway down them as to which way they would like to point. The Ravenclaw boy was out of breath by the time he stepped through the door to Muggle Studies -- it had been closed and he simply knew he was going to attract attention to himself.
As he moved in to the room, Wesley gave the professor a very nervous smile, his shoulders a little higher than normal in a clear sign he was nervous of being told off. "I'm really sorry, professor." Wesley told the man, hoping he wouldn't get shouted at. "I was running late, I lost track of time, and then the stairs moved. It won't happen again, I promise." Wesley told him. After that, Wesley hurried to a seat towards the back, and listened intently to what they were doing this lesson.
The idea sounded really good, and Wesley's hands moved immediately to the inks when they were told what they were to do this lesson. He looked through the different colours before deciding on blue, and very carefully made a start on doing his finger prints as they had discussed. After each, Wesley would stop to look at the different shapes his fingerprints made, smiling to himself slightly as he continued on. This was interesting, but a thought came to him as he finished his right hand.
Raising his hand -- now stained with ink -- he waited for the professor to notice before he spoke. "Sir, what are you going to do with the prints? Just curious." He asked, his question innocent, but curiosity getting the better of him in that moment. His eyes averted, though, the moment he'd finished asking, because he had, now, drawn attention to himself, without even considering that for a moment. |
