| "Oh, she isn't Mrs. Bhabhi," Jackson corrected absent minded, not really stopping to consider that his companion may not be as familiar with Indian culture as he was. "Bhabhi means "sister in law", I call her that because... well, in her culture, its rude to call women just by their name. And her husband would would find it disrespectful." The explanation was delivered casually, without judgement or much thought. Jackson was neither trying to educate nor belittle. In fact, like most things, it was just spoken out loud without much thought. "Her name's Preethi Sarbh, and I have no clue what size she is," he added, wondering if maybe Jim's wife had a kid cousin whose's clothes the Princess could borrow.
The mention of going to the shops did surprise him. That meant she had now become financially capable. And yet she had made no mention of moving out yet. Was she really so comfortable on his couch after clearly having lived in much better conditions? However Jackson didn't have much time to ponder this as she grabbed his laptop the next moment, flopping easily on the couch and opening it up. The politician made a note to change the screen savers the next time he was on it.
"I usually stay at the Devil," he informed her, casting a longing look at the game consoles laid pristine on the TV shelf. Had she cleaned those two? He could have sworn one had a month long cheese stain on it but now it looked brand new. "Old Tim Andora runs it now and he always lets me camp out there when I need a place." Of course, he realized belatedly, she might not want to stay a the Devil. It had not aged well over the years, only its Nightshade alumni keeping it alive. Tim did the best he could but the place was well past its prime.
"But you can pick out a nicer hotel if you like," he offered. Finally making up his mind, the young man rose from the table and joined ehr on the sofa, reaching for the gaming device hooked to his TV. She had said he could do whatever he want, and he wanted to race cars.
When the midget asked about his suit, he merely grinned. "We won't need it," Jackson reassured the young woman. "I'll be styling a Desi Sherwani." ________________________________________________

| "Oh..." Victoria replied to this piece of news, her cheeks turning a soft pink at the realisation of the mistake she'd just made. It had been a long while since she'd seen, or even spoken to Drishti and her brother, and perhaps that was something Victoria should look in to so that she could revisit the friendship that would offer her something a little more insightful. But those thoughts were for another time. "Noted, for future reference." Victoria replied from behind the laptop, and she meant it.
"We'll sort something." Victoria replied to the man, not pushing the subject because it didn't matter if they couldn't borrow something, Victoria could sort it. Somehow.
"The Devil is still going?" Victoria asked, quite surprised by that news. "I haven't been back to Salem since 2013, so I... well, I don't know how it looks now. It will be nice to see it." She explained, leaving it at that as she moved to the Devil's website and used the somewhat clunky website to book them a twin room. There had been a moment in which Victoria had considered a separate room situation, but in a bar that had never had the best of reputes, around people who would have probably been drinking... No, Victoria liked the comfort blanket that Jackson offered, and if he wanted her to attend the wedding with him... he would have to suffer being the security she needed at the moment.
The comment about what Jackson would be wearing was one that Victoria was not familiar with, and after a moment -- making sure Jackson was glued to his game -- Victoria typed the two words in to Google, and found out what this was. She smiled at the colourful attire that came up, before quickly minimising the page out of sight and returned to her emails. They were mostly junk, truthfully, before she found a video of her niece and nephew playing in the pool, her mom calling out to Ivan to look after Adrienne from her perch on the side as they both splashed around in the pool in their armbands.
Victoria's smile was sad, there was no denying that, but she still... wasn't ready to leave.
Not quite yet. ________________________________________________

| He was surprised she still remembered the Devil. Jackson figured the Wormwood Princess would have forgotten about her entire life back in Salem after fleeing the country for greener pastures. "Yeah, its still up, though its seen better days," he reaffirmed, swinging his fictional on screen car violently to the left to avoid a traffic light. "The Nightshades won't let it completely die anytime soon, I hear its still their go to place for alcohol." Of curse, it was always harder for him to be there post rehab but a difficult night was a small price to pay for seeing Tim and the building again.
"Me Sherwani will probably come by post, I'll text Merida tonight to send it over. And I'll call up Jim for you in a bit," he offered, letting her know that she could go through his post from now on. The traditional garb would probably need some kind of ironing after being parceled in all the way from Green Lake. "You can just unpack it if it arrives while I'm at work." It only made sense, he figured as his car smashed spectacularly into a wall, showering the screen with an explosion and realistic, three dimensional shrapnel. The game over signed flashed bright red on screen.
Jackson was about to restart when he noticed the witch beside him staring at the laptop looking... well, not sad really. Or maybe she was sad, but she looked more lost than unhappy. And because Jackson had no idea what she was suffering from or how to make it better, he only did the best thing he could think of at that point.
"Multi player mode?" he asked, holding out the controller her way. "I'll go easy on ya." ________________________________________________

| "I'll have to tell Jake," Victoria replied to the comment of the Devil pub still being up and running. Though, in truth, Victoria wasn't sure that was the best idea. Enough of his past had been brought to light with the news of his daughter, Mimosa. Pushing him in to the realms of somewhere Azalea had once worked might not be the most helpful thing in the world. But, should they ever get on to the topic of Salem...
Well, Victoria could drop it in to conversation.
"Yeah, I will do that." Victoria replied absently as she worked through her emails. Open the package as it came, that much Victoria could do. And get it sorted for the man beside her. It would give her something to do, though she noted a moment later on a mental checklist to check the material before she took it anywhere near an iron. Ruining something that beautiful -- though, of course she didn't know what Jackson's would look like yet -- would be something close to a disaster.
Victoria's eyes lifted from the screen as a controller was offered to her, and the option of a multi player mode. "You don't need to go easy! I smash Mario Kart!" Victoria insisted, though she didn't know if this would be the same as the game she played with her nephew, she would give it a good go.
It proved, however, that Victoria was quite wrong in her idea of how good she was. The first couple of games proved to be full of faults, Victoria not getting the buttons correct in the first game and ending up going backwards. Then failing to comprehend in the second that leaning did not help the car turn further -- nor did tilting the controller. By the third, though, bar running off course a couple of times, Victoria was keeping up with Jackson -- whizzing straight on on a couple of turns.
She was, by no means, good at the game after an hour had passed, but the witch was holding her own in the game to not be pitiful. The important part, though, was the two of them had been having fun. Laughing, trying to put one another off as they got too good at the game, and getting vastly competitive with one another, even if Jackson was winning every game.
It was perhaps the sixth, maybe seventh game, that had just ended, and Victoria was stunned as she lost by only four seconds -- her best so far -- because she'd span the car when trying to drift around a corner. "I was close!" She insisted, flexing her hands because they ached a little from the repetitive movements of the controller. "I'll get you this time!" She insisted, pressing the 'replay' button once more. ________________________________________________

| The kid may have crushed it at Mario Kart but she clearly wasn't used to this game, Jackson concluded after the first two rounds. Though he had to admit, the witch learned quick. What he'd expected to be a long teaching session actually turned out to be a really fun, competition car race through the fictional roads of Los Angeles with the cops hot on their trail. The wizard couldn't even remember when he stopped going easy and started competing in earnest with the Princess as their cars raced alongside each other.
"Okay, winner of the next round gets to decide whats for dinner," he joked as they reached their sixth game. If he won - which h would - maybe he'd ask for pancakes just to throw her off. Breakfast food could easily be dinner food. And i she won, well, she cooked spectacularly anyway so it was a win win situation. That being said, the game definitely wasn't an easy win what with his newfound fellow racer finishing only a few seconds behind him.
"Okay, now I'm really getting scared," he admired, only half easing. Who would have known the pristine princess was so good at breaking every nonexistent traffic law known to gamer kind? "Actually you know what, I'll make dinner," he offered as they got ready for the seventh game, the witch claiming she would get him this time. She probably would too but Jackson wasn't about to admit it that easily. "I make a mean pasta, you know."
The young man was cut off by the loud buzzing of his phone from the table. Looking up at the flashing green "READY" on the screen, he gave her an apologetic look before hitting pause. "Hang on, let me take that and then we'll see who can tear down the highway faster." Dropping the controller on the couch, he padded over to the table and picked up the phone on the fourth ring.
"Hello," Jackson called out cheerily, only for his mouth to go dry at the voice on the other end.
"Hello Representative Blake..."
The politician retreated into his room without a second glance at the game or the witch, his face twisted in anger and fear as the blackmailer spoke once more, this time demanding another ten thousand dollars in exchange for her consideration. The call was short, barely two minutes long but Jackson stayed in his room much longer, oblivious to the world outside.
Where was he going to get another ten grand to keep this quiet? He could feel a headache forming and flopped on to his bed, closing his eyes and crushing a pillow to his face to keep out the fucking light. ________________________________________________

| "You're totally making dinner then!" Victoria replied to the man, readying herself for the next game with a steely look of determination on her features. They set the game, their cars ready on the screen just before the controls would be returned to them to start the race when Jackson's phone rang from the table where he'd left it.
Victoria was already ready to hit pause when Jackson did it, and the witch pulled her own phone to her in the same moment, checking for messages from her friends and trying to make herself scarce in that moment so that she wouldn't seem to be intruding on Jackson's call.
As he sped from the room, though, Victoria watched curiously as he closed the door behind him in his room. His girlfriend, the witch decided, returning her attention to her phone and returning the message to Alex, the young man who had come to her on advice in the law field a couple of weeks previously.
Twenty minutes later, Jackson had not returned from his room, and Victoria felt like there was something wrong. Perhaps the man had a long distance relationship, or something? It would explain the fact that he hadn't brought his girlfriend home recently...
Whatever the case, Victoria waited another ten minutes, and when Jackson still hadn't emerged, she managed to close the system off before she retreated to the kitchen to prep their lunch. Whatever was up with the man, Victoria decided he could deal with it himself, and she wouldn't ask.
That, she decided, would likely keep them both from ending up in a similar position to the one they'd encountered earlier that morning. Personal space would be appreciated, she was sure.
Which was why Victoria prepared a simple pasta meal, knocking softly on Jackson's door to tell him it was ready. Not once did Victoria ask what the call was about, and Jackson didn't offer it. But, Victoria knew there was something wrong, his whole demeanour had changed substantially. ________________________________________________
