| The question that had been set had been a tricky one, and though Nikolai had an understanding of why it might be more useful, he wasn't confident enough in his answers to raise his hand. And, perhaps his attention had been caught by the professor and his mind power was not exactly all on his potions work in that moment.
Not to mention he'd buried his head in his hands with Mimosa's thoroughly stupid answer that had come in the next moment, making her look like a complete moron. If, of course, you weren't completely predisposed to her 'cuteness' that did not cut it for Nikolai's liking. Thankfully for them all, though, some proper answers were given by the newbie Hufflepuff, and Apollonia in turn.
Both of the answers solidified what Nikolai had been thinking of, though he doubted he would have put it as well as the two girls had, and idly made notes in his notebook in that moment so that he could think on that some more at another point. Miss Azalea was talking again a moment later, though, and Nikolai's eyes were back on the most attractive professor they had in a heartbeat, listening intently to her every word before they were set off on an exercise of unscrambling the words.
Copying down the letters as their professor had written them on the board, Nikolai picked the bottom one first. With the hyphen shown that made it the easiest one to unscramble.
That wasn't quite enough, though, so the Slytherin continued up to the third answer, unscrambling that one with ease due to the V that was in it.
The others took a little while longer, and as he finished the fourth one, a jab at his side denoted Mimosa needed his attention.
"Have you done it yet?" She whispered, almost too loudly that the professor might hear them and bring her over.
"Yes," Nikolai whispered back, giving Mimosa a look that insisted she keep her voice down.
It didn't work.
"Give me one." The younger witch demanded in that tone that never sounded like a demand but got her exactly what she wanted anyway.
"That's cheating!"
But before Mimosa could say another word and get them in trouble, Nikolai slid his book over for her to see. "Do this one," he insisted, pointing to the bottom clue for her to copy. He was quite sure Mimosa would be able to come up with her usual nonsense with that one, but just to be sure she knew, he told her the name of the potion in a soft whisper so no one else would hear.
Pulling his notepad back in front of him, Nikolai instead picked another of the clues.
Thankfully, Mimosa didn't raise her hand straight away, but the boy was beaten to the punch by Apollonia, again. Swot, he thought, but listened as she picked one of the easier unscrambling words, though not an easy to make potion. The answer was given, and the room opened up once more, Nikolai's hand went up almost immediately.
"The fourth clue is Confusing Concoction," Nikolai explained once he'd been called upon by the professor. "This potion is easier than that given by Apollonia, according to the books, and is one of those potions that does not have a name that might confused. The Confusing Concoction does exactly what you'd expect, it confuses the drinker. The Confundus Charm would have the same effect, of course, but you could possibly slip some of this in to someone's drink if you wanted a little bit of free time, I suppose."
Looking sideways at Mimosa, Nikolai added so only she could hear. "We should try that some time."
There wasn't much else to add, so the Slytherin merely waited for someone else to give it a go. ________________________________________________ProfileThanks to Kitty for the signature! <3

| Amanda listened slowly what was going on the classroom and she stayed quiet most of the time. Even yeah she knew the answer to the question she decided to let others to speak up. The other studenys gave good answers anyway.
Once there were scrambled potion words on the board she began to unscramble them too. She figured out mostly all of them when people began to answering them. The ones two other students had Amanda figured out too. So she smiled for seconds.
She glanced at the board and her notebook again. The girl took a deep breath and raised her hand too. She knew she should be part of it too.
When she had premission to speak she lowered her hand. "The last one is Skele-Gro. It's medical potion what you use to regrow missing or removed bones. Even yeah it said to taste terrible and procress is very painful and slow," she said all she knew about this potion. There might be more but there wasn't need to go very detailed.
She knew one more from the list but she figured she should let others to answer these potions too. They deserved to earn points too. |

| Mariah wasn't very good at potion-making, but she did know a thing or two about words. She was glad for the opportunity to get points where she could, since she knew as soon as they actually started brewing things she would probably be in trouble. As the letters appeared on the board, she copied them down. When it came to potions, Mr. Weber had made sure that what she lacked in practical skills, she could make up for in theoretical knowledge. She knew most of their names and what they were supposed to do if brewed correctly. She also knew about ten different ways all of the supposedly "simple" ones could be brewed incorrectly, and the disastrous effects they could have. She blinked away some of the more vivid memories and got to work rearranging the letters on her paper, starting with the first one. ggdvah ftu tnlhoid raie She quickly figured out that while the spacing between the groups of letters probably wasn't right, the number of groups was most likely accurate. Okay, four words. Second word is most likely "of," so "blank of blank blank." She pulled out the O and the F and surveyed the remaining letters. I can't spell "potion," with these letters, so what are some synonyms...oh, "draught"! She scribbled down "draught" before "of" and crossed out the corresponding letters, leaving her with: gv tnlhid aie. Draught of Living Death. She moved on to the next one. By the time she had deciphered it as the Hiccoughing Potion - apparently they spelled "hiccup" differently in the UK - the other three had already been claimed by other students. She looked around, but seeing no other hands raised, she tentatively lifted hers again. "Um, the first one is the Draught of Living Death. It's the most powerful sleeping potion in the world. It's really hard to make, and it involves powdered root of asphodel and an infusion of wormwood. The Wiggenweld Potion is able to reverse it." She didn't know what other information was important, so she left it at that, leaving the final potion for someone else. |

| The teaching assistant observed quietly as one by one, hands went up in the air, solving the puzzle on the board with ample speed. It looked like this was going to be a smart bunch to tutor. She only hoped Annika understood the significance of smart students, and kept them interested in Potions.
"Well done everyone, take ten points for your rapid unscrambling skills," she praised when all the answers had been solved. "And the good news is, you're already halfway to understanding the complex art of potions making. For if you can deconstruct a jumbled mess into separate ingredients, then put those ingredients in order, viola, you have a potion." The analogy was overly simplified but the class contained beginners as well as veterans heading into their NEWT potions so Azalea felt it worked.
Now we're going to be trying something a tad bit more challenging, but I'm sure you're more than up to the task." As the class emitted a mixture of groans and enthusiastic cheers, the American brunette grinned.
Let the real work begin! ________________________________________________
