Anatomy of a Potion (All Years) - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Anatomy of a Potion (All Years)   Anatomy of a Potion (All Years) - Page 2 EmptyTue Mar 12, 2019 9:50 pm

Azalea had always known her kids were bright, and one by one they raised their hands to prove it. First, the Headmaster's son offered up the importance of concentration, then Lyra the new student spoke of clean workstation and equipment. Finally, it was Apollonia who contributed Ingredients to the mix. The last one to speak up was little Mimosa, her slim hand waving about in the air until she was called on.

"Water," the twelve year old squealed excitedly. "Every potion has to be drunk so it needs water to make it in."

"Very good, everyone, take five points each," the brunette complimented. Everyone, even Mimosa, had gotten it right to a certain extend. A liquid base was somewhat necessary in the art of potion making. "Everything you've al pointed out is crucial for potion making, but I would like to discuss the three most crucial things, two of which have already been pointed out. And I do it by using a mnemonic device."

As she spoke, the chalk moved to the side, drawing what looked like a delicious warm pastry just out of the oven. Once the pie was drawn, the chalk wrote the three letters of the picture clearly underneath it.

"P.I.E"

"Pie" she explained easily to the class. "Or rather, Procedure, Ingredients, Effect. These are the three ways in which we identify and judge if a potion is well done. Whether it uses the right ingredients, whether it was brewed according to the standards outline and if it has the desired effect. Without any one of these three components, you are unlikely to have a successful, finished product."

Another small pause for the students to absorb the information before Azalea continued once more.

'So today we are going to be playing a little game. Each of you will be assigned merely one element of the P.I.E of a potion and you have to figure out what it is - without looking at your textbook please. Some of our beginners might find it alarming which is why we're doing this in pairs. I'm almost certain there is no combination the both of you can't figure out if you put your heads together."

Of course, deciding who would get what was a different matter entirely. Not overly fond of assigning things to specific individuals and not overly skilled at hat tricks involving a wand, Azalea merely opened the drawer hidden underneath her workstation to pull out a handful of colorful sweets.

"Please step up and take a candy, you may eat it but save the wrapper as it will contain one of the elements of your P.I.E." Then return to your partner and station and try to work out (through experimentation) what your potion is. I expect a replica of your guess produced in a small vial by the end of class."

Your sweeties!:

Anatomy of a Potion (All Years) - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Anatomy of a Potion (All Years)   Anatomy of a Potion (All Years) - Page 2 EmptyWed Mar 13, 2019 12:40 am

As Azalea carried on with the lesson and actually informed of the exact type of lesson they were having, Apollonia could see many students actually blanch at the words from the Professor but Apollonia only felt eager to get started. This is why she loved attending Professor Azalea's lessons - she made them fun and interesting at the same time which led to every student actually using their brains to think.

Turning to face Sterling, Apollonia conferred with the male and they decided between the two of them that Apollonia would go to grab the sweet. Hopefully, it wouldn't be a weird clue that they wouldn't be able to figure out - and even if it was she didn't doubt that between the two of them they'd have the Potion figured out and made.

The ginger-haired witch swiftly made her way across the room to the desk and she swiped one of the sweets, opening it up and popping the candy in her mouth before she made her way back to Sterling and placed the candy wrapper between them and paused at the words written on it.

A potion that, when either drank or inhaled, caused fatigue.

Pausing in chewing on the sweet, Apollonia turned her head towards Sterling and the two of them frowned at each other before Apollonia grabbed some parchment and her quill and wrote down the clue at the top of it.

"I can think of a few Potions that cause fatigue but only two come to mind when it comes to the clue." Apollonia started off the discussion, tapping her quill against her lip. "The Drowsiness Draught is one." She noted that down on the Parchment.

"The Fatiguing Fusion is another one," Sterling added to the conversation and Apollonia wrote it down. "However the Fatiguing Fusion is the only one that actually can be ingested by someone to cause them fatigue. The Drowsiness Draught is more of a Potion whose fumes cause fatigue."

Crossing out the Drowsiness Draught, Apollonia underlined the other one and started making bullet points as between the two of them they wrote down all the ingredients for the Potion before Sterling got the cauldron going and the two of them tried to figure out the exact way to make the Fatiguing Fusion.

With the two of them being quite versed in the art of Potion making they had no problem working around and with each other in experimenting and figuring the exact measurements needed for the potion. It wasn't a hard potion to make, in fact, it was fairly easy, but when you had no recipe to go on the Potion rose in difficulty however neither Apollonia nor Sterling minded that.

In fact, the two of them were so engrossed in their experimentation that they didn't really notice when other pairs started making their own tries at their potions. Truly they could've been going at the experimentation of the Potion for hours and they probably wouldn't have realized it.

Though by the time the first half of the period came to an end, the two of them had, somewhat figured out at least three/fourths of the Potion and were now trying to refine their attempt; hopefully this time they would actually get the Potion to the point where it was correct.

As Sterling crushed their last ingredient, a small part of Ginger, Apollonia slowly stirred the Potion counter-clockwise three times before she stirred it once clockwise and then waited for 180 seconds, exactly three minutes, before she once more stirred it three times counter-clockwise and once clockwise though this time, instead of waiting for three minutes Sterling sprinkled the crushed ginger into the Potion and Apollonia stirred it slowly for two minutes.

And as the two minutes came to an end the fifth year Slytherin and fifth year Hufflepuff held their breath as ever so slowly the Potion changed colour and a light, barely their mist of green fumes rose into the air, making the two students yawn in sync before Sterling quickly cast bubble-head charms around them to make sure that they didn't fall under the effect of their own Potion.

Sharing a successful grin, Apollonia and Sterling pulled out small silver vials and poured the potion into them, carefully labelling their names on them before Sterling took both to hand them over to Azalea as Apollonia went about vanishing the rest of their Potion and then cleaning up their workstation.

it had taken them the better part of the lesson to figure out the actual ingredients and measurements for the potion but they had managed and now the only thing they needed was for Azalea to check their work and declare it either a success or a failure.

They both held their fingers crossed and hoped that it was a success.

Anatomy of a Potion (All Years) - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Anatomy of a Potion (All Years)   Anatomy of a Potion (All Years) - Page 2 EmptySun Mar 17, 2019 7:27 pm

Nikolai's eyes remained upon the professor the whole time she spoke, something of a happy expression upon his features no matter what she said because his mind wasn't... fully in the room. He was still listening, though, and the boy denoted the mnemonic that was offered with interest. He hadn't heard of that one before, and so his pen moved across the page, writing down the information they'd been given with eagerness.

That was an interesting way of looking at Potions, and Nikolai wrote down a note in the side column of his notebook to use this in an effort to aid his revision notes at a later time. If he could note each Potion down with it's P.I.E., he was pretty sure he'd do well in the tests at the end of the year, no matter what he might be asked in relation to each of these points.

This, of course, was not the time to be thinking of such things, though, and as his eyes returned to watch the professor as she spoke, Nikolai's eyes widened slightly with curiosity at the task they were given. The notion they would be working in pairs was not so good -- especially with the witch he was sat beside -- but it could always have been worse. As the details were finalised, the shrill sound of Mimosa Harrington-Clement's voice broke through.

"I'll get our sweet!" She told him, already bouncing off of her seat and across the classroom to pick out their sweet for this task. Nikolai blinked a couple of times to push away the pain of her voice from his head, before getting up out of his own seat, and taking out his wand to clean off the workstation before Mimosa returned. The witch had already popped the sweet in her mouth on her return, and she simply thrust the paper wrapper at him.

"It is a very difficult potion to make as the ingredients have to be added in a very specific order, the mixture has to be stirred exactly the right number of times and the heat of the flames on which it is simmering has to be lowered to exactly the right level for the right number of minutes before the final ingredient is added." Nikolai read aloud for Mimosa's sake, not that he was sure the witch had been listening entirely after the first part of the sentence had gone over.

Nikolai didn't listen to Mimosa's knee jerk response, instead pulling his notebook towards him and picking out the main points they'd been given.

  • Difficult
  • Very specific order
  • Exact number of stirs
  • Heat lowered before final ingredient is added

A frown touched the Slytherin's features as he looked it over, trying to think of a potion that needed a very specific order for the ingredients to be added. Wasn't that all potions? But, he was sure the professor wouldn't put that in unless it was truly important to the potion they would be making this lesson.

"Have you worked it out yet?" Mimosa asked tiredly, even though he'd barely read the clue to the witch, and written down a couple of notes to prompt him.

"Not yet."

"Why not?" Mimosa asked, making Nikolai bristle slightly because she was affecting his ability to concentrate with the manner in which she was distracting him in that moment.

"Because you're interrupting me. Now, please, just give me a minute." Nikolai insisted, earning a huff from Mimosa in reply before she looked around the room. The witch had never been any use in this lesson, and Nikolai had not expected that to change today. But, for whatever reason, Mimosa Harrington-Clement had opted not to utter another word in that moment, and his mind quickly went back to the puzzle they'd been given.

It was a difficult potion.

That would mean it could be anything from this year's curriculum upwards, which didn't really narrow it down for Nikolai in that moment, only deducing that it would not be a potion they had studied before. Professor Harrington had insisted they didn't use their textbooks, either, which was vastly annoying, so Nikolai moved back to the list before him.

The boy thought over the potions he knew to be hard, but with each one that he thought of, he noted that they couldn't possibly have been asked to complete that potion. The Polyjuice Potion took over a month to brew correctly. He'd written it down beside difficult, only to cross it out and put 'month' beside it.

Next, his mind went to Veritaserum, another complicated potion, but once again, he noted down that the time span was too long for them to be able to attempt it in this lesson. The boy's list of advanced potions was growing more and more limited with each potion he wrote down and then crossed out for one reason or another.

"You're not very good at this, here, let me teach you." Mimosa insisted, taking his pen off of him as if she was about to write, but the witch simply took it and twirled it around her fingers idly, her much too symmetrical features caught up in thought.

"I just need some peace to th-"

Nikolai cut off, for a moment, his eyes catching off on something across the room as the thought struck. There was a potion called the Draught of Peace. Nikolai had no clue about anything on the potion bar that. Glancing to find the professor -- and grateful to find her back turned -- Nikolai quickly flicked to the index of his book, found the Draught of Peace and then hurriedly turned to the page. There was nothing in the book about an extended length of time needed to brew the concoction, and right at the top of the notes:

The directions for making the potion are very detailed. Ingredients must be added in the exact order and amounts specified, and the potion needs to be stirred 7 times, both clockwise and counter-clockwise. Before the addition of the final ingredient, hellebore, the temperature of the flames must be lowered, and the potion allowed to simmer for seven minutes.

Closing the book before he got caught, Nikolai smiled slightly.

He had the potion, but he had no idea how to brew it. Flicking to the page in his book constantly would be a very, very bad idea, and he doubted Professor Harrington would believe him if he filled a vial of this potion without the aid of his book. So, Nikolai raised his hand, waiting for the professor to spot him and come over to his desk.

"Umm, professor, I think we've worked out our potion. I'm not sure..." Nikolai explained, hoping beyond anything in the world Mimosa wasn't stupid enough to rat on him for looking at his book to simply check. "I think our clue is for the Draught of Peace, but I don't know how to make that potion, and... neither does Mimosa. Could... we use our book? As our clue says, we need to do things in an exact order, and... well, I don't know the ingredients or the order to make it."

Hopefully, the professor wouldn't be so harsh as to expect him to know, but even admitting to the witch that he didn't know had caused Nikolai's cheeks to heat up in that moment. Embarrassed for having to admit to her that he couldn't do the task set.

Anatomy of a Potion (All Years) - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Anatomy of a Potion (All Years)   Anatomy of a Potion (All Years) - Page 2 EmptyTue Mar 19, 2019 3:58 am

Mariah looked up from her note taking as the activity was introduced, dread starting to pool in the pit of her stomach. She exchanged a look with Lyra, then offered to go up and retrieve their candy when they were released to do so.

She made her way to the front of the classroom, a silent mantra running through her head. Please be simple. Please be simple. Please be simple.

She picked up one of the sweets from the professor's desk and returned to her workstation before opening it, offering the candy to Lyra. She skimmed the clue written on their wrapper and breathed a sigh of relief. It could be a lot worse, all things considered.

Its ingredients include Bezoars, Standard Ingredient, ground unicorn horn and mistletoe berries. The recipe for this potion can be found in Magical Drafts and Potions.

"Those are standard healing ingredients," she muttered to Lyra, running through the list of possibilities in her head. "I'm pretty sure it's the Antidote to Common Poisons."

Now she just had to remember how to make it without looking at her textbook. Or hope Lyra knew off the top of her head. She took a deep breath, flipping to an empty page of her notebook.

"Okay, so we can at least gather our ingredients first," she started. They wouldn't get those wrong anyway. That took some pressure off.

"And I think we should see if we can write down the recipe beforehand instead of trying to remember it as we go." Mariah just knew that if she tried to keep track of everything in her head, it would all go horribly wrong very quickly. She looked up at Lyra for her thoughts.

The notes practically wrote themselves as she listened to everyone and the professor.

  • Concentration
  • Everything clean
  • Good ingredients
  • Water? Base solution/water/base potion/liquid?

PIE
Procedure Ingredients Effect

The assignment drew a pause to her writing and she considered it for a moment. She looked to Mariah and was about to offer to go get the sweet when the other girl offered to herself. She simply nodded with a small smile. She watched her retrieve the candy and waited patiently, going over what potions she knew in her head. Lucky for her she'd been doing quite a bit of studying on them that week. She gave the girl a grin when she got back, accepting the candy and popping it in her mouth as she leaned over to read the wrapper in her hand.

Its ingredients include Bezoars, Standard Ingredient, ground unicorn horn and mistletoe berries. The recipe for this potion can be found in Magical Drafts and Potions.

She thought for a moment, going over the potions she knew once more. "Oh, yeah!" She said in response, straightening excitedly. She'd only just moved on from the potion earlier in the week and she was pretty sure she remembered the process? Or.. the Procedure. They knew the ingredients, and effect (healing), and she had a basic concept of the procedure.

She reached for the notebook hesitantly, looking at Mariah carefully. "I think I remember the recipe? I can write down what I remember while you grab the ingredients?" She waited for approval before sliding the notebook towards her and writing down what she could remember.

  1. 4 measures crushed Bezoar
  2. ? measures Standard Ingredient
  3. Heat to medium temp 5 seconds
  4. Wave wand
  5. Something here??
  6. Add 1 pinch of Unicorn Horns to your cauldron
  7. Stir ? times clockwise
  8. 2 Mistletoe Berries
  9. Stir twice counter-clockwise
  10. Wave your wand

She looked up as Mariah returned with the ingredients and gestured to the list. "That's all I can remember... sorry."

Anatomy of a Potion (All Years) - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Anatomy of a Potion (All Years)   Anatomy of a Potion (All Years) - Page 2 EmptyMon Mar 25, 2019 11:02 am

The students didn't need much direction after that, sending one person to collect the sweet while the other stayed back to prep the stations. All around she looked, Azalea spotted the more advanced kids like Apollonia and Sterling already starting on their potion, one still chewing the sweet. Then of course there were the beginners who were frowning thoughtfully at their candy wrapper, the sweet completely forgotten on the work surface.

The brunette hadn't gone out of the way to give out neither extraordinarily easy or hard potions nor clues, and she had tried her best to suggest partners who could fulfill each others weak areas. Still a struggle for some pairs was bound to ensue and she focused her attention on those particularly students now, walking among them to observe and sometimes help.

"Umm, professor, I think we've worked out our potion. I'm not sure..."

Nikolai Kessler's voice rang across the classroom, drawing the witch's attention. She waited as the tall Slytherin explained their dilemma before flashing him a smile. "My apologies, I meant you only had to figure out your potion without the help of your text book. You can of course utilize it when brewing, unless you have the recipe memorized of course." Looking towards the rest of the class, she cleared her throat to draw their attention.

"Once you've had a good guess of what you're trying to brew, you may look up its recipe in the textbook. Honour system guys, I believe in you!"

Anatomy of a Potion (All Years) - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Anatomy of a Potion (All Years)   Anatomy of a Potion (All Years) - Page 2 EmptyMon Mar 25, 2019 2:26 pm

As Professor Harrington said that they could use their books, Nikolai sagged with relief. Thank Merlin for that! He thought to himself, reaching for the book he'd been cheating with an opening to the page he'd found before propping it upon the desk so that Mimosa could see too.

"Okay, we're going to need... powdered moonstone, syrup of hellebore, powdered porcupine quills, and powdered unicorn horn." Nikolai read from the book, looking to Mimosa before deciding not to send the witch to get the ingredients. "Can you get the cauldron set up, and put the base potion in over a medium heat?" He asked the witch.

"Of course I can, I'm the best at potions!" Mimosa predictably replied, leaving Nikolai rolling his eyes as he moved off to the store cupboard to collect the ingredients he needed. The list was repeated under his breath as he went, looking over the ingredients and trying to work out which ones would be the best for the job. Hopefully, the Slytherin thought to himself, he'd picked out the ingredients that were the best for the job, but he was still learning to identify when the ingredients were at their best for each.

Laden with four jars, Nikolai moved back to his desk with Mimosa, and laid them out. Looking over what Mimosa had already achieved -- which, perhaps this time was right, bar the flames needing to be dimmed slightly -- Nikolai read over the instructions.

"Okay, we need to do this methodically, Mimosa, otherwise we're going to ruin the potion." He told the witch, who probably wasn't listening, but Nikolai continued down that path anyway. "Okay, so, first..."

The boy continued to explain the potion step by step, allowing Mimosa to pour in each ingredient with his supervision being hawklike. He knew of her tendencies to try to improve upon potions, so he tried to ensure she only put in the amount they needed and not a drop more. Nikolai instructed Mimosa on how many times she had to stir, what colour they were trying to get to, and how high the flames needed to go. He continued to explain to the witch that they had to stick to the instructions and not make it pink, or lime green, or neon orange because that wasn't what they had to do, and after an infuriating forty minutes of battling with Mimosa, they were down to the last steps of the potion.

"So, now we have to stir seven times clockwise, and then seven times anti-clockwise." Nikolai explained, and before Mimosa could mess that up, he put his hand over hers and guided her in which way was clockwise first. "Nice big circles, that's it." Nikolai encouraged, before letting go and counting the number aloud to ensure they didn't get this wrong.

"... Seven, okay, now the other way." He insisted, making sure Mimosa did as he prepared for the next part.

"We need this..." Nikolai explained, handing Mimosa the hallabore to put in to the potion, but before he could speak the girl was tipping it it.

"Mimosa, no!" Nikolai tried, but it was too late, the first few drops had already fallen in to the potion. The horrible sound of rigorous bubbling emanated from the cauldron and instinctively, Nikolai pulled the Harrington-Clement princess away from the cauldron before it bubbled over and caught her clothes. Once sure she was clear, Nikolai drew his wand, tapping the top of the cauldron and making the contents disappear.

Their desk boasted the frothy mess of the remnants of the potion and Nikolai sighed to himself.

They'd almost done it.

Almost.

But Mimosa did as she always did, and royally messed up everything.

Anatomy of a Potion (All Years) - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Anatomy of a Potion (All Years)   Anatomy of a Potion (All Years) - Page 2 EmptyTue Apr 02, 2019 4:04 pm

Setting all of their ingredients down on their workspace, Mariah peered over Lyra's recipe, face scrunched up in thought.

"Better than I would have done," she admitted. "I think it's two times clockwise? Or may be two measures of standard ingredient. Or maybe both..." she wracked her brain, trying to call up an image of the page in her textbook, knowing she had read it before not too long ago.

She looked up as the professor announced that they could, in fact, use their textbooks while brewing. With a sigh of a relief, Mariah quickly pulled out her book from her bag and flipped through it until she found the right page.

As it turned out, it was two of both, and the only step Lyra had missed was leaving it to brew for 40 minutes in their pewter cauldron.

"Hey, you did really well!" she praised her friend with a small grin before getting to work preparing the bezoar, crushing it as fine as she could using the mortar and pestle.

Once it looked about as powdery as she could make it, she showed it to Lyra for approval, then glanced back at the textbook for reassurance before adding four measures to their cauldron. They took turns, alternating steps and watching each other carefully to make sure they followed the procedure to a T. When they reached the waiting part of the procedure, Mariah sat back, letting out a breath she hadn't known she had been holding.

Potion making was stressful.

She glanced at a clock on the wall, making note of the time and writing it down in the margins of their notebook.

"Forty minutes. So, uh, how was your break?" Mariah asked, hoping to pass the time.

Anatomy of a Potion (All Years) - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Anatomy of a Potion (All Years)   Anatomy of a Potion (All Years) - Page 2 EmptyTue Apr 02, 2019 6:22 pm

Lyra bit the inside of her cheek as she thought, trying to remember any more of the recipe, any snippet of information she hadn't already written down. The thought occurred to her suddenly that she might have remembered the wrong recipe and she sighed softly to herself. The first potions book she'd gotten after all had not had correct recipes in it, and though she'd purchased the correct book she couldn't be certain that this recipe was the right one.

She was trying to sort out this added problem when the professor spoke up, adding that they could in fact use their books, but only if they already knew what they were making. Lucky for them, they'd figured out the actual potion quickly enough, it was just the recipe they were having trouble with. Her hand immediately moved for her book, but Mariah's was out first, the girl flipping through it until she found the right page.

She'd been right! Merlin, she couldn't imagine how embarrassed she'd have been if she'd remembered the wrong recipe entirely, but lucky for her the instructions and ingredients she'd written down matched the ones in the book. She gave her fellow Hufflepuff a smile in return to the praise. "Thanks! I wasn't completely positive, but it looks like I was at least pretty close."

As Mariah prepared the first ingredient she went ahead and filled in the gaps in their instructions so they'd have two copies to look at, one for each of them, without her having to grab her book.

  1. 4 measures crushed Bezoar
  2. 2 measures Standard Ingredient
  3. Heat to medium temp 5 seconds
  4. Wave wand
  5. Brew 40 minutes
  6. Add 1 pinch of Unicorn Horns to your cauldron
  7. Stir 2 times clockwise
  8. 2 Mistletoe Berries
  9. Stir twice counter-clockwise
  10. Wave wand

She nodded her approval of the bezoar as she finished writing before starting to measure out the standard ingredient. Then Mariah got the cauldron heated to a medium temperature, Lyra counted out five seconds and waved her wand, and then they waited. She pulled a small timer out of her bag, setting it for forty minutes and stayed standing to watch the cauldron carefully. She'd made that mistake once before and didn't have any desire to repeat it.

The question from Mariah drew a long sigh from Lyra before she lifted a shoulder in a half shrug. "It was okay. Not the best holiday season I've ever had, but not bad either. Granted, I wish it had been longer, but there's not much I can do about that. How was yours?" She smiled lightheartedly and shrugged again, glancing at the potion once more to make sure it wasn't trying to bubble over.

For forty minutes they talked quietly and chatted about... everything and nothing at the same time. If you were to ask her what they talked about Lyra wouldn't be able to pinpoint any single topic, but still she felt closer to her dorm mate in a way, and by the time the timer went off she was laughing and giggling like she would have been with any of her friends back home.

The next steps went by quickly with them taking turns adding and prepping ingredients. Finally it came down to a simple wave of the wand, and they were done! They each labeled a vial with their name and poured a bit of the potion into it, wishing each other luck before they took it to the front of the room. Lyra was fairly certain they'd done it right, but as she returned to her station and started cleaning up she couldn't help but feel a prick of nervousness about the outcome. There were so many little things that could go wrong when making a potion, and yet... they'd double and triple checked everything. It would work, she just knew it.

Azalea moved through the students periodically, checking their progress and keeping an eye on those who looked like they were in danger of getting their recipe very wrong. Of course, it would be the one group she had anticipated would not get anything wrong that had almost caused an accident. Fortunately, Nikolai Kessler's quick thinking had saved both Mimosa and himself (as well as the entire lab) from heading down to the Nurse's office.

And for what it was worth, their potion had been going along well before the final mishap.

"Are you guys okay?" the witch asked, moving quickly to their table to take stock of the residue sticking to the polished stone surface. Once she had made sure they were both indeed unharmed - in fact, Mimosa was in especially good spirits, insisting how she had improved on the recipe - Azalea motioned for them to clean up and move to a new station for the remainder of the class.

Every other group seemed to be doing well. Mariah and Lyra had managed to put together a very decent concoction while Apollonia and Sterling - having finished early - were now playing a game of tic tac toe on their parchment. Even Bushrah and Ji Hrun had cobbled together a respectable solution. The only major outliers were Dominique and Lilac who had not been able to agree on an answer to their riddle and therefore had not started their potion at all.

Azalea made a note to speak to the two girls later. After all, no one should fail basic potions.

"Alright everyone, great work for today. And remember, no matter how you guys did, I'm very proud of all of you. Lets keep working on our potions so when Professor Blackwood returns, we can welcome her by showing her how much we appreciate her subject!'

Turning towards the blackboard, the witch made an absent motion and words appeared on the blank wooden surface once more. "For homework, please write a decent sized essay - I trust you not to fleece me on this - on where you went wrong and how could have avoided it. given you did go wrong of curse. So for example Sterling and Apollonia don't have any homework,' she demonstrated with a grin.

After that, the brunette fielded a few more questions regarding homework and next lesson, and about when Professor Black wood would return, before she dismissed the class.
