Flying Lesson Two - All Years - Page 2 Empty

Naomi listened to the rules of Jake's game, cracking a smile at his obvious leading them on about winners. Nudging Finley in the side with her elbow, she murmured "Sounds pretty fun, yeah?" In fact it did and she was so excited to get in the air that she was the first to take off.

Scooping a blue ball off the ground where they were piled, Naomi headed for the blue basket, dodging snowballs on her way. She got her first point easily enough, but got a snowball to the face on her return trip for another ball. Laughing, she wiped the snow off her face.

During the next half hour, Naomi managed to get four more points and was covered in snow for her trouble. A spark of mischief entered her, the kind that sometimes allowed her to be persuaded to play pranks with her cousins. Checking that Jake and Finley were both distracted, Naomi scooped up a handful of snow.

Jake was her first target, since he would notice something was up if she hit Finley first. Aiming for the back of his head, Naomi let the snowball fly. Immediately, she flew low enough for another handful of snow, packing it into a hasty snowball and lobbing it at Finley's back, gently enough not to startle him.

With the arrival of Madison, Finley smiled in her direction, murmuring a soft hello. He was surprised, to say the least, when she put her scarf around his neck. Waiting awkwardly for her to stop fussing, Finley glanced towards Naomi in a small plea for an idea of what to do, but before he got an answer, Madison had moved away.

"T-thanks..." Finley replied to the Slytherin, unsure of what else to say.

"Sounds pretty fun, yeah?"

Finley rubbed his ribs lightly, his features lighting up with the idea of the fun they were going to have. Nodding eagerly - despite his not so good flying technique - Finley moved towards one of the school brooms. It took a couple of attempts to get the broom to come to him, but after he'd mounted he pushed off the ground, and felt the confidence he'd built come back to him in that moment.

Looking around for Naomi, Finley moved in her direction, only just noticing a blue ball hovering in the air. Remembering the instructions, Finley changed direction, moving to the ball, carefully but with growing confidence. He was never going to be the world's best flier, but he had fun. It took a lot of courage for Finley to take one hand off the broom to collect the ball - one that thankfully didn't move - but with it in hand, he saw a snowball appear and in a gentle loop head in his direction.

Pushing the broom forward a little bit, Finley moved towards the bin, missing the first snowball, but not noticing the second one. The second one, however, seemed to have come from a different source, from the way it didn't feel hard in the slightest. Looking around, Finley saw Naomi and let out a small chuckle. "T-thanks!" He called towards his best friend, before holding up the ball he'd managed to collect.

"I g-got one!" He told her triumphantly, just as another looped (charmed) snowball hit him on the head. He wobbled momentarily, but managed to keep control, his features turned up in a grin as he steadied his broom.

Awesome, Finley thought to himself with a grin.

Watching the first two students take to the skies, Jake couldn't help but smile to himself. Both of the students were quiet, to a degree, especially Finley, but it seemed they were enjoying the lesson.

Jake had turned his back on them, for literally two seconds, to say "Come on, everyone!" to those left on the ground. Being in school, Jake's guard was down, and not at all ready for the splat of a snowball to the back of his head. With a grin, Jake turned around to see Naomi fire a second snow ball at Finley.

Taking out his wand, Jake swished it in a relatively simple combination, watching as five snow balls readied themselves, and chased after the Ravenclaw witch. Whether they hit the witch (not hard, of course) Jake didn't mind. They were having fun, and that was exactly the aim of this session.

"Watch your back, O'Hare!" Jake called, amusement clear in his tone.

Naomi grinned as both of her snowballs hit their targets. She laughed at Finley's response and cheered when he scored them a point. "Good job," she called, as another snowball hit him and he managed to stay on his broom quite well.

The sound of her name caught her attention and Naomi turned towards Jake, letting out a quiet yelp when she saw the miniature snowball army coming for her. "Cheater," she muttered under her breath as she took off, trying to avoid getting pelted. She enjoyed the challenge, however, and she was grinning the whole time.

Swerving left, then right, she managed to avoid getting hit by the first two snowballs, but they just curved around to come at her from either side. Pulling up sharply, she dodged those two, but this allowed the three behind her to catch up. Two of them hit her shoulders and one hit the back of her head, showering snow down her sweater. Grumbling good-naturedly, she drifted back down towards the pitch, trying to shake the cold flakes out as she went.

Jake watched as his students had fun, smiling to himself from the ground as he watched. He'd been right, he hoped, to give them a little free reign to simply have fun before the holidays. After all, everyone needed a little time to just relax.

Checking his watch, Jake noted that he'd over ran slightly, and witch a soft curse under his breath, he whistled up to those in the sky. "Come on down, guys, lessons over!" Jake called, making sure that everyone was back on the floor before he spoke. "I hope you enjoyed today, but that's the lesson over. I hope you enjoy the holidays, and I will see you next lesson!" Jake told them, before waving them off.

He took his time putting the equipment away, watching as another load of snow came down. Scotland really could be quite pretty at this time of year.
