| Kate had waited anxiously for September to roll around again after her rocky summer. She had arranged the desks into the normal rows that filled her classroom in the previous years. She had just finished writing today's topic on the chalk board when she pulled out a couple of old newspapers from awhile back and she made the copies larger so it would be easier to see from the back of the classroom.
Today's lesson was about the Azkaban Prison. Or just wizarding prisons in general as she could mention the prison known as Nurmenguard. Shuffling the notes on her desk, she posted the now enlarged newspapers next to the topic on the board. It was the newspaper of Sirius Black and his break out and the Mass breakout he supposedly had helped with. Standing back a couple of steps she examined her work. Finally finished with her preparations with the class she walked around and sat behind her desk. Leaning back in the chair, she smiled. She was so ready for the new school term. Kicking her feet up on the desk she waited for the students to start filing in. |

| Elleon slowly made his way to the classroom designated for History of Magic. Besides Potions, this was one of the other classes that he struggled less with as it did not require much talking. But now it was different. Jelena had complained of a headache and returned to the dorms to sleep. Leaving him without and interpreter. And no way of understanding anything the professor said.
Sure, he could read her lips, but it wasn't as easy as that. Everybody's lips moved differently and it took some time for him to get used to each person's lips. It was hard work and much of it was him guessing and filling in the blanks based on the words he did catch. And that was only if the professor faced in the entire class and if he got a seat up front where he could get a clear view of her lips.
Which was why he was here so early. He entered the classroom and nodded a greeting to the professor, accompanying it with a smile and hoping against all odds that they would be doing more reading today instead of listening to her teach. He set himself down on a desk and took out his sketchbook, tearing a blank piece of paper out and writing something on it. When he was done, he got up and handed it to the professor. It read:
Dear Professor Juvenca,
Jelena, my interpreter, is sick today. When you speak, look at me please. I need to read your lips. |

| Mei Xin walked to her next class, taking her time since she knew she was early. History of Magic agreed with her; well, actually any subject that required memorising facts, reading and textbook studying agreed with her. This particular class was quite like the Sejarah she was studying for the Malaysian syllabus her parents made her take. Of course, there was no argument which history she actually found interesting to study.
Entering the classroom, she saw a Hufflepuff boy there but noted that the girl that was usually with him was not. She smiled at the professor. "Hello Professor Juvenca," she greeted, remembering the way most of the students greeted their professors. Back home in Malaysia, it was the students who were in the classroom first and when the teacher walked in, they would all stand and greet the teacher with something like 'Selamat pagi, Cikgu...'.[Selamat pagi: good morning. It would be 'selamat petang' if it was the afternoon. Cikgu: teacher...(insert the name)]
She took a seat, looked to the board and saw that they would be studying about the prison. She'd already covered that in her own personal studies but didn't mind sitting through the class to learn more. She found it easier to keep up with the material being taught if she read up on the topic before going to class. |

| Arden didn't really no much about History of Magic, yes his father would tell him and his sister stories here and there but that was about it. He didn't really no the exact history of everything that had occurred to this. The Ravenclaw entered the room and saw his friend Phua instantly. He sent her a wave as he sat down at the table right in front of her. He didn't know where his sister was at but he knew she wouldn't oversleep especially not when class was that day and if she did he would yell at her later.
The Ravenclaw hated how his sister would get him mad from time to time but in the end he did love her and would die for her if he needed to. The Professor looked serious and he was glad because he certainly didn't want a Professor that didn't know what she was doing. Arden sighed and waited. |

| Audrina had reached the classroom when she saw Arden walk into it. She was nervous to walk into the classroom she had no idea was going on. Arden was more of a genius then her so the fact how she made it this far was beyond her. The Hufflepuff may be loyal and all that good stuff that a Hufflepuff is, but when it came to her being a book genius, that wasn't her. That was Arden and would always be Arden. Everyone always wanted to be around him or be like him. Sometimes even used her to get to him.
Audrina finally took a deep breath and entered the classroom and took the seat next to Arden. She knew he would be able to sense her nerves and her negativity from a mile away which is why she kept her eyes forward and off of her brother because then he would definitely know what she was thinking and she really didn't want him giving her the speech again. |

| Gabrielle was already yawning even before she entered the classroom. History of Magic was another one of those useless subjects, almost as bad as Astronomy, if it weren't for the fact that sometimes the topics included great Potioneers from the past. It wouldn't do to skip the class, though—Professor Juvenca was the Head of Ravenclaw, and as the previous year's star Ravenclaw student, Gabrielle had to make sure that she stayed a brilliant, eager student in Professor Juvenca's eyes.
Trying to erase the boredom from her features, Gabrielle set her shoulders and walked into the classroom with her chin up. 'Good morning, Professor Juvenca,' she greeted the professor warmly, even though all she wanted to do was to go back to her room and continue her Potions readings and experiments. 'How are you today?' As she smiled at the professor, she noticed the newspapers tacked on the board, and on it was the photo of a deranged looking man who seemed to be laughing at the reader.
Gabrielle frowned, wondering who that man was and why their professor had chosen to post a newspaper article about him on the board. Perhaps class today would be more interesting than she thought. She was expecting to hear about bloody old wizards who started a revolution or some other boring thing, but if they would be discussing the greatest criminal minds, Gabrielle was actually willing to pay attention. |

| Finley loved History of Magic, being a Muggleborn meant he did not have the luxury of simply being able to ask his parents about the magical world. So, everything that Professor Juvenca had taught him over the years was completely, and utterly, fascinating.
Making his way to class, Finley realised he hadn't checked with Madison if she would be taking History of Magic this year... She didn't need to, really, what with having a magical background, but she might find it interesting - Finley didn't really know.
Slipping inside the door, Finley sent a smile towards the professor, and then took up his usual seat at the front, pulling out his textbook and notebook ready for the lesson. As his eyes travelled to the board, Finley couldn't help but feel interested. He'd read about Azkaban, and the tale of Sirius Black's escape from the prison was a huge part of recent history.
Today's lesson definitely looked like it was going to be enjoyable! |

| History was a subject that always fascinated Mina, but it did not mean that she enjoyed studying them in class. Schools had a penchant for choosing the most yawn-inducing topics, and their exams rarely challenged students to do some critical thinking. After all, if teaching History in schools truly helped students, how was it that humanity managed to keep making the same mistakes?
Before she could keep waxing philosophical, Mina reached the History of Magic classroom and saw the enlarged newspapers posted on the board. Prisons were a dreary topic, but hope in the education system awakened in her as she thought about how useful it was to know about the prison. Perhaps Professor Juvenca would actually teach them about law and crime, and that was something useful at least.
Mina greeted the professor, whose feet were up on the desk—it was an atrocious display of a lack of poise, but a professor was still a professor, and Mina was obligated to acknowledge that. With a barely suppressed sniff, she took one of the empty seats at the back of the class and waited for Professor Juvenca to stand up and begin her lecture. |

| Another day, another class that Violet reluctantly attended. Though she did so know that it was in her best interest. History of Magic wasn't particularly hard, more about remembering facts, which always came easy to her.
She made her way to the classroom and found a seat close to the back of the room. She preferred the back because it meant less interaction, less chance of being called upon, so she could answer when she chose. The day's topic, Azkaban prison, or wizarding prisons in general, were indeed attention grabbing. Perhaps it was the professor's way of scaring the students enough into being good citizens, by teaching about it. It would make sense. She remembered her muggle primary school would 'educate' about certain things, where education would turn into this major fear-mongoring lesson that boiled down to basically "do this and you'll die horribly or regret it horribly". She had a feeling that this would be roughly along the same lines, except of course this would actually have some truth to it. |

| Elenore was not overly impressed with English Magical History, truth be told, it was not quite so beautiful as the French history. Her history. History that she was proud of, history that was forever writing itself based on each and every decision she made.
However, Elenore still came to the lesson, simply to see how the others in the class dealt with the information, and to create friendships, find out who to avoid, and countless other things. Except, unlike Jacques, she did it with the face of an angel, pretending to be on people's side, and storing their weaknesses for later.
Slipping in to the room, Elenore took in the professor and gave her a small smile. Not highly professional, this one, but Elenore would pretend to be friendly. "Good morning, professor." The French witch greeted, before moving through the desks, moving to the back where she had noticed one of her own. The posture screamed the Ravenclaw was one of Elenore's kind of people, a safe haven. Taking up the seat beside her (Elenore did not ask, she ruled), Elenore looked sideways at the witch.
"Hi, I'm Elenore." She greeted. No last name was needed, the French accent, and her obvious standards in appearance, posture, and Merlin knew what else would allow those who had studied their fellow Purebloods to place her. And, if the witch beside her could not do that, it would prove that Elenore would have a little rearranging of ideologies to do. ________________________________________________
