Fingers Crossed (Brooklyn - TW Physical Abuse & Mentioned Miscarriage)

Sure enough, Brooklyn confirmed Humphrey's fears that they would be talking about his embarrassing moments. Part of him really wanted to put her in her place, but most of him was simply glad to see her smiling the way she was. Eventually, he decided that if learning embarrassing things about him was going to cheer her up he would just have to deal with it. "Okay fine, but I draw the line at looking through baby pictures. None of that." he said firmly, giving her his best death glare after he told her. Admittedly, death glares were something that he definitely needed to work on before they'd actually be effective, but he had to try. Humphrey let out another groan before an idea hit him, and he smirked. "Uggh okay, but when I get to come over to your house I am so asking your mum for dirt on you. I wonder what embarrassing things she knows about you?" he asked, glad he'd thought of it.

Every word was hard for him to hear, and all he wanted to do was go find this sad excuse for a father so he could make him pay for what he'd done. However, Humphrey knew that wasn't his job as much as he wanted to. What was he supposed to say to her after what she'd been through? He couldn't tell her that everything was okay because he knew that she wasn't. The way she had called herself nothing just a short while ago was proof enough that she was still hurting. To top it all off, the monster had forced her mum to get rid of a future baby sister or brother. He prayed he would never bump into her dad in his life because he wouldn't be able to stop himself from trying to hurt him if he did. His anger wasn't needed though, and he tried to push it down so he could try to comfort her. "Oh Brooklyn, I'm so sorry. I wish I knew how to help." he said quietly. Not knowing anything else to do, he pulled her in for a hug and rubbed small circles ion her back. It was something his mum did for him when he was upset, so he thought it might be helpful.

Her story about the emotional torture to go with the abuse was sickening, and it certainly explained a lot. Humphrey had known there were people who got abused in the world, but this was his first time meeting somebody who had been through it. Only now did he realize the full impact it could have on a person, especially if it happened when they were a kid. Thankfully, her father was gone, at least for now. "Brooklyn, if he ever comes back and tries this again...one of you will need to report him. I know he's your dad, but nobody should be allowed to treat you like that. If you don't feel you can do that just...just call the knight bus and tell the conductor to take you to my house. You don't deserve that kind of treatment, and neither does your mum." he said, hoping she would remember it if the situation came up. Hopefully she wouldn't have to deal with him any longer, but he knew she'd had rotten luck with her father so far so he wanted to make sure she knew of a safe place to go. "Thank you for telling me all this, it means a lot."

All she could do was laugh at her friend. She loved the reactions she got from Humphrey. He looked adorable when he did it. Wait what?! She shook that thought from her head and focused on what her friend was saying to her. "I don't know, I might have to see some baby pictures now only because it'll be fun to see your reaction because we all know that your reaction will be priceless" Brooke smiled at him. But the smile was off her face when he mentioned asking her mother for embarrassing stories about her. "You wouldn't dare" she gave him a death glare to show him how hers was better then his. "Besides, we're working on your death glare, yours is terrible" she sighed.

Brooklyn was shocked when Humphrey pulled her into a hug, she had watched his face through the entire memory she had just shared with him and knew he was completely angry at what he was hearing from her. Her father was pathetic and now Humphrey knew the truth on why she was the way she was. She hugged him back though because she really needed to be in a safe environment and Humphrey made her feel safe. "It's okay, I have learned how to deal with it, but thank you" thank you were foreign words coming from her but she was thankful for Humphrey.

Brooklyn felt awful when Humphrey mentioned reporting him, she had tried but had gotten caught. "Humphrey I tried reporting him, hell even my mother tried, but he knows people and he also threatened to kill us if we did" Brooklyn explained to Humphrey, she was too young to die, she had a whole life ahead of her and wasn't ready to go yet, which is why she never reported her father after he threatened her. "Humphrey if he comes back I am not safe anywhere, not even at your house. He'll find me, trust me on that one" Brooklyn explained to him. Brooke kissed Humphrey's cheek and didn't remove her lips until 10 seconds later. She sat next to him and put her head on his shoulder. "Please don't tell anyone about what I've told you" she said to him, she couldn't bare anyone else knowing her deepest secret.

When he told her that he would have to find them all and hide them from her, all she could do was laugh and smirk. He really thought that she wouldn't find his most embarrassing photos. It was crazy that anyone would underestimate her and it was kind of sad as well. No one should underestimate her, she was full of surprises and would break a bone if she needed to. "Uh huh, I'll let you, then I'll just have to tear your house apart trying to look for them. And you really don't want me to do that" Brooke smirked. "Who knows what else I'd find about you when I do tear your house apart looking for photos of you" she made a thinking face. When he mentioned the whole practicing death glare she nodded. "Yes you will, as for what you need to do, just find the anger inside you about anything really and the death glare just comes naturally" Brooke told him.

She couldn't help but snort at his comment about her being amazing and nice. "Humphrey, I am anything but nice. Yes you kind of see my nice side but this isn't it fully. Other people get it worse. As for being okay with all of this I am not. Deep down I am hurt and so upset that someone who I am supposed to love could do such a thing to me. I hate him for what he did. I used to be a loveable girl but he turned me into a monster and I don't know if I can change who I am. This is me Humphrey, I was raised to be this person and I've believed that for years" Brooklyn explained to Humphrey, she couldn't change overnight.

She gave him a shy smile. "Trust me on this Humphrey, if I have it my way I won't be seeing him at all or talking to him. He left and I hope he stays gone" Brooklyn said to him. "But don't kill him Humphrey, he isn't worth going to Azkaban for" Humphrey was better company then her father and would be damned if she let Humphrey go to prison for her. "My father has eyes and ears everywhere. He'll know who you are but I'll take your offer into consideration though" Brooklyn gave him a nod. Brooke felt him kiss her forehead and knew he was dead serious about keeping her secret. "I'm glad my secret is."

Humphrey wasn't quite sure how to react to that response, he was both annoyed and amused at the same time. She would probably follow through with the threat of tearing apart his house to find them, of that he was fairly certain. The problem was when she came across them she would definitely find at least a little blackmail material there. As much as he loved his mother he really hated that she'd taken so many embarrassing photos when he was little. When he'd gotten older Casey had taken over taking the embarrassing photos without even being asked. "So this is what it's like being friends with a Slytherin, no wonder other Hufflepuffs are always warning me." he said, chuckling some in spite of the situation he was in. At the remark of finding anger and using it to fuel his death glare, he had a good amount ready to go. Using the anger at his mum and sister for the embarrassing photos, Humphrey gave the death glare another go as he looked into Brooklyn's eyes. After a good thirty seconds he stopped. "How'd I do?"

Listening to her, he understood the point she was trying to get across to him. Humphrey had already put together that the reason she tried to come across as cold was because of what she had gone through. However, he still thought she was plenty lovable once you got through her shell. "It's only natural to hate somebody who put you and someone you care about through that. You are most definitely not a monster, though. A little rough around the edges, sure, but who isn't?: he asked, looking at her with kindness in his eyes. "Obviously you aren't going to be completely normal right away, and I realize that. If it helps at all, I already can tell you are still lovable." Humphrey said with a wink, trying to get a smile out of her.

Hearing her say she didn't want to see him or talk to him was reassuring in a way, even though he knew if he just showed up she wouldn't have much say in the matter. Humphrey gave a small smile back, and nodded in understanding. "Alright, I'll do my best not to as a favor." he agreed, looking at her so she would know he wasn't lying. She said she'd think about his offer, and finally Humphrey started to feel the tension drain out of him and he snuggled against her. This wasn't exactly the cheerful or teasing conversation he'd pictured at the start of today, but he'd gotten to know her a lot better and that's what he had really wanted. "You're pretty special, Brooke, and I'm always here if you need to talk about things. Did talking about it help?" he asked hopefully.

Brooklyn could only smirk at Humphrey, he knew that she knew she was dead serious and it only made him regret having these pictures taken. Now this made her want to look at them but she also knew that Humphrey would be embarrassed. But she knew the price would be paid if he came over her house and her mother showed him her baby pictures. There wasn't many due to the abuse but there were some that were kind of embarrassing. "Yes it is and you should have listened to them if you wanted to avoid this little bump in the road" Brooklyn knew that Humphrey wasn't going anywhere and that was new to her. When he began his death glare and she could do was smirk and nod. "Not bad Humpty Dumpty" she was impressed.

Brooklyn was shocked, how was Humphrey thinking that she wasn't that bad? Everyone who came in contact with her knew that she was awful when she was in that type of mood. Hell sometimes she thought that even her mother was afraid of her because she was very unpredictable but here was Humphrey telling her that she wasn't bad only rough around the edges. "You're the first person to say that to me Humphrey" she meant it to when she said that. When he winked at her she gave him a genuine smile. "Well thank you, but I still got a reputation so sh" she said kind of joking but also serious.

"Good" she said to him. "Because I care about you Humphrey and when I say he isn't worth it I meant it" she said to him. Humphrey didn't deserve to go to Azkaban because of her. She didn't realize that this conversation was going towards the way south place. She snuggled closer to him and looked up at him and smiled. "Kind of, but enough of this gloomy ness tell me about your day" she said to him changing the subject quickly.

She couldn't help but give him a knowing look. He was damn right about that, she was a hell of a person to be around and would always keep people on their toes. "Damn right, I better be the best company, people would be dead if it wasn't for me keeping them on their toes" Brooke loved being who she was and didn't really see herself changing for anyone. Yes she was opening up to Humphrey little by little but there was still work in progress when it came to them. When he told her it was weird to do that glare she glared at him this time. "Uh huh, you know you loved it" she sent a wink of her own at him.

Brooklyn doesn't blush and never did, but when he said that it was about time someone did, she blushed a little bit but she hoped Humphrey didn't notice it, but knowing him he probably did. "Thank you" she replied to him honestly. "Good" she sent him a playful glare and smirked.

"No, you'd think I'd miss you too much. It'll be you missing me. I mean who wouldn't miss this gorgeous face" she playfully said as she flipped her hair back behind her. When he brought up liking her again, she nodded. Brooke didn't know how to react when it came to him liking her. Even though she tried pushing him away on their first encounter he kept coming back and now here they were. "Yeah, still don't understand why you were nervous about telling me" Brooke said to him. "My day was okay. Woke up and debated whether or not to go shopping or meet you up here. So I chose to meet you instead" Brooke said honestly to Humphrey.

Brooklyn couldn't help but laugh at what he just asked her. "Don't you get it? If they didn't have me in their life then what would be the purpose? Duh Humphrey. I'm awesome and who wouldn't want me in their life?" Brooklyn could be big headed from time to time but she didn't mind and from the looks of it Humphrey wasn't going anywhere so he was stuck with her. She shrugged. "It's not for everyone but don't worry Humphrey, it's okay. You have your thing and I have mine. That's what makes us friends" she said to him. She didn't mind that he wasn't like her, it was fine.

She stopped blushing and sent him a playful glare when it came to him telling her that her blush was cute. 'Damn it! He saw it!' She was highly mad now. "Don't push it Williams" she continued to say to him. He wasn't going to get her to blush again, she would definitely make sure of that.

She could only laugh because she knew she was right. He would miss her terribly and deep down she would miss him to, but she'd never tell him that. "I knew it!" Brooke said to him, she was always good at reading people. All she could do was shrug and smile at him and giggle a bit. "Trust me if it was anyone else I would have sucker punched them right in the eye, but it's you and I can't do that. Even though I still am in denial of you liking me, but don't worry about it Humphrey" she still didn't understand why he liked her but it was okay, she didn't hate him or anything. She sighed and nodded. "Yes I did pick you over shopping" she admitted.
