Lesson Three: Changing it Up (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Lesson Three: Changing it Up (All Years)   Lesson Three: Changing it Up (All Years) EmptyThu Jun 30, 2016 12:30 am

"Are you sure you'll be alright?" Veronika asked her fathers, watching Ivan blearily rub at his eyes knowing that at any moment he was going to start crying out of frustration. She quickly pressed a kiss to his forehead and massaged his third eye, the small spot between his eyes where his intuition chakra was. She knew that was where a lot of his energy concentrated, and she rubbed at it softly to soothe the irritation that may have been brewing there. She kissed his forehead again, and watched as he started to fall back asleep in his grandfather Max's arms.

"Of course," Tristian said from the kitchen where he had a thermos of coffee for her, "now come give your fathers kisses and we'll see you around lunch." She did as she was told, smiling despite the knot of unease in her stomach. It wasn't one of danger, but one of discomfort. It was only natural that a mother didn't want to be separated from her child right? She sighed softly.

As soon as she entered her class she begun to work on the chalkboard, spelling up all the instructions for the day. She had papers to grade, and she needed an easy day so the directions on the board were meant to make her just a supervisor to their actions. Sighing she cracked her knuckles as she withdrew her wand from behind her ear to began enlarging and fixing the room about. Her classroom was split into seven sections: separated by walls, by actual doors, by energy to prevent any mixing of classes by accident.

For First Years (behind a wall of desks closest to her desk and furthest from the door, in the Northwestern side of the classroom):

Practice transfiguration spells on dummies. Creativity is key in dueling; who knows when turning your opponent into a duck may be the best spell to cast? Solely practice on the dummies.

For Second Years (behind another wall of desks closest to her desk and furthest from the door, in the Northeastern side of the classroom):

Research your textbooks on using Defense Against the Dark Arts spells to confound and change the mentality of your dueling partner. This type of maneuver is to be used in life or death situations, not in duels within my classrooms. Next class will be applying your knowledge so I'll know who practiced and who didn't.

For Third Years and Fourth Years (closest to the Second Years, separated by a Transfigured wall and closest to the door, in the Southeastern part of the class room):

Research your textbooks for famous duels that changed the tides and the fates of the past two Wizarding Wars, write two to four pages on the tactics and strategies. Next class you will be practicing those tactics and strategies on dummies. Happy writing!

For Fifth Years (closest to the First Years, separated by a Transfigured wall and closest to the door, in the Southwestern part of the class room):

Practice the spells from the last lesson on the dummies, be careful! Do not cast a spell you cannot undo. Happy Dueling!

For Sixth and Seventh Years (in Veronika's office, which has been elongated into a dueling arena for the duelers):

Duel each other. Do not cast a spell you cannot undo or heal. Any permeating injuries will be met by detention or altogether disciplinary actions by myself or the Headmaster by the caster. Be responsible, respectful, and reverent of your partner. Happy Dueling!

Lesson Three: Changing it Up (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Lesson Three: Changing it Up (All Years)   Lesson Three: Changing it Up (All Years) EmptyThu Jun 30, 2016 7:34 pm

The girls in the school had been swooning oh so hard over the news of two Professors getting married. Why did it make it so much more romantic that they were working together? Now, don't get Nirek wrong, he was all in to romance (secretly) but he couldn't get his head around girl logic of the situation.

Then there were the guesses on when the second Newbury kid would be on the way - after all, Professor Jake wasn't exactly quiet about Ivan (everyone knew baby Ivan by name, even if they hadn't met him) and when asked if he wanted more, Professor Jake's smile had said enough.

Nirek was, however, happy to have Professor Ho- Professor Newbury back in the school. He was thankful Professor Jake wasn't Professor Newbury too, otherwise this would get confusing. So, slipping in to the dueling classroom, Nirek read the board before him and moved off to the professor's office as instructed wondering which sixth or seventh year would be on their way to join him for a duel.

Elenore could never say she was a duelist - openly, at least - but the French witch wanted her power to go beyond her brain. She needed the physical power as well as her mental power to be a rounded woman. A woman that could be feared, as well as admired by everyone. It was a lot to expect of yourself at the age of thirteen, but Elenore didn't like to set her goals as anything easy.

Moving up to the second floor, Elenore let herself in to the room, and looked for the professor. Elenore knew of Professor Veronika Newbury, her name had made it's way around the Pureblood community upon her marriage to a Halfblood. Elenore put it down to her age - after all, why else would you marry beneath your station? This wasn't to say Elenore disliked Veronika, oh no, she pitied the girl for winding up in the situation she had.

"Good morning, professor." Elenore greeted the older witch with a warm smile that hid every thought she may have of the woman. Her eyes lingered for a short, friendly moment, and then Elenore moved towards the board, took in her instructions and moved to the room as she was instructed. Pulling out her textbook, Elenore took a seat, and set to trying to find the information that was required of her.

PostSubject: Re: Lesson Three: Changing it Up (All Years)   Lesson Three: Changing it Up (All Years) EmptySun Jul 10, 2016 8:58 am

Dueling was a difficult class for Finley, truth be told, non-verbal magic was okay when you did it in your own time, but when you were rushed against an opponent... it put a lot of pressure on Finley. The Ravenclaw, however, was nothing short of determined in himself. He was not going to allow something difficult to deter him from learning, no-sir-ee!

So, slipping through the door to Dueling, Finley gave Professor Newbury a warm smile before noting the board before him with the instructions on it. Finley being the curious boy he was read every single one of them, intrigued by some of the other lessons, until finally he saw his own. That information made the Ravenclaw swallow hard, and with a determined look on his face, Finley moved in to the room that had been set out for him.

Only to halt in the door way.

The only other person there so far was the one person Finley simply did not wish to duel, ever. He doubted Nirek would listen to the instructions that had been set out on the board for a minute... Looking over his shoulder, Finley took in the Professor, before stepping in to the room. No matter what Nirek might try, he knew Professor Newbury would not allow any harm to come to her students.

Jacques massaged his temples as he walked, Eloise was keeping pace with him as he walked up towards the Dueling classroom for his lesson. She was going on and on and on about how he did not give her enough of his attention. How so many other boys in the school would be happy with her on their arm. How he didn't understand just what he had with her.

Honestly, Eloise had simply been a pawn in the previous year's Christmas Ball, but she had mistaken that for Jacques' interest in her. He didn't particularly like the girl for anything more than her aesthetic in comparison to the rest of the school. Her lack of understanding of the situation only put Jacques off of her more.

"You're not even listening to me, Jack!" She scalded him as they reached the door.

"Jacques." The Clement heir corrected, making sure the French pronunciation of his name was clear. He was not some English low born child with a simple name such as Jack. He was important, and Eloise had forgotten herself. With a glare in her direction, Jacques slipped through the door to Dueling, signalling the one-sided conversation was over.

Entering Professor Newbury's class, Jacques took in the information on the board and moved to the room as instructed. At least he would be allowed some peace if they were to sit and read up on strategies!

PostSubject: Re: Lesson Three: Changing it Up (All Years)   Lesson Three: Changing it Up (All Years) EmptyFri Jul 22, 2016 8:29 pm

Aiko pulled up her socks as fast as she could. She had just finished penning a letter to her mother in regards to her summer plans for the next year. The summer of her fifth year she intended to intern or something like that under the Minister in order to educate herself the most on politics firsthandedly. It meant the world to her that she get that internship or at least start building connections through the Ministry. She'd been working on the letter so much she'd barely realized she missed breakfast. Heaving a rueful sigh and resolving herself to the idea that it was better since she had a shoot at the beginning of summer, she hurried to Deuling.

She gave the slightest wave to the newlywed - and newly pregnant it seemed - Professor Newbury.

"Morning Professor, congratulations," Aiko said in introduction as she settled into where she was supposed to be. Relief filled her at the idea that she didn't need to do anything physical for the time being.

Look, if there was one thing to know about Gabrielle "Ellie" Brennham it was that she was not an eavesdropper.

It's just that when you come from a home where there are four-now five-kids all the time privacy wasn't a common theme. She was used to Phil or Caelan just barging in to grab something. She loved peeping on Taela when she was being all artsy and cute fingerpainting, it only got gross whenever Taela: instead of wiping her hands off just dropped her face onto her plate to eat her chicken nuggets. It kind of grossed Ellie out to see her sister be so feral with her food, but she said nothing of it. Even their baby sister, Katherina, did her fair share of eavesdropping. She liked to crawl from room to room, which meant whichever Brennham was watching her entered the room too. So, this all meant that Ellie didn't eavesdrop intentionally.

It just kind of happened.

Also she liked to think of it as recon, y'know gathering ammunition to fire against her opponent. This time said opponent was Jacques Clement. She waved off her Yuletide date who tried to walk her to class-were they dating now? She didn't remember him asking or her conceding but whatever-to catch up to Jacques stride. As she slid into the door behind him she grinned, crossing her arms over her torso.

"Trouble in paradise, Clement?" She jested grinning condescendingly, "is Ellen not preforming up to par with the perfect prince's standards? It's almost like blonde equals no brains, funny how that works. Except I guess in this case, when it comes to you, arrogant equals no brains." She saw Hanna waving at her to sit next to her while they studied so she stuck her tongue out at Jacques for a final kicker before making her way towards her Ravenclaw friends.

Lesson Three: Changing it Up (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Lesson Three: Changing it Up (All Years)   Lesson Three: Changing it Up (All Years) EmptySat Jul 23, 2016 10:40 am

At the sound of his name, Jacques half turned to see who the person was that was speaking to him. However, he already had an inkling as he turned, and was proved right as the face of Ellie Brennham came in to view. After 'listening' to Eloise all morning, the Gryffindor was not a welcome sight for Jacques in the slightest. With his jaw clenching a little in that moment, Jacques forced a very small, quick, polite smile on his lips.

"I hardly think that's your business, Brennham." Jacques replied to her question relating to paradise. This point was true, of course, however, Jacques knew it also did the job of trying to show he was hiding something. "There is no paradise between us, if you must know. Mostly an inconvenience is what we share, until such a point where she becomes convenient." He explained, not batting an eyelid at the fact he'd basically admitted to using the girl.

Ellie Brennham was hardly the kind of person who's opinion affected Jacques in any manner, after all.

However, as Ellie stuck her tongue out at him (after a slight attempt at an insult), Jacques raised an eyebrow at her back before following and seating himself on the opposite side of Ellie than the Ravenclaw witch Jacques didn't care to know. "You know, when people say the Brennhams were raised in a barn, it almost seems true with the way you act. Perhaps a little cleaner than a farm animal... marginally, at least. You're destined to give your family a bad name, I'm sure." Jacques quipped, taking out his book and making himself at home in the seat beside the Gryffindor witch.

"Besides which, arrogance, or no, brains are something I at least possess. Whereas, should the rumours be true, you don't seem to have any... after all, you're dating a complete dunce of a boy. Why do you think he chose you, when there are so many girls his own age to choose from?" He asked, a smirk touching his lips in that moment as he looked to Ellie for answers.

Lesson Three: Changing it Up (All Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Lesson Three: Changing it Up (All Years)   Lesson Three: Changing it Up (All Years) EmptyMon Jul 25, 2016 6:53 pm

Sumire gave a heavy sigh. In the pit of her stomach, something felt off about her body. In the past months, through the heavy researching she'd done in the texts. According to everything she'd read, it seemed this summer she'd be undergoing an intense transformation. She felt sick just imagining what would happen. She knew that most Veelas had wings. According to most Magizoologists who specialized in half-human creatures, Veela lifestyle actually varied according to region. Most European Veelas lived their whole lives as part-Veelas, enchanting everyone they meet from the moment they're born. However, those originating from Asia and the lower middle half to the world had to undergo a transformation. This had something to do with breeding with actual harpies and valkyries being popular in Europe as opposed to Asia where mingling human species was common. She herself was uncommon: most Asian Veelas did not carry fertility high and the chances they actually find their mate were low.

As she entered Transfiguration, she waved at Finley and smiled at Professor Newbury. She tried to shove the unease and the other unknown feeling down into her stomach. She couldn't imagine how this was all going to happen also what exactly could she do? How could she avoid this? Her father told her that they had a plan to keep her in one of their best cottages in Kolkata, where his family was. It would be secluded and well-kept also easy to feed and keep an eye out for her. She shuddered to think what she might undergo. Softly, she cast her spells but deliberately. She made sure they landed, and then practiced the reverse spell just as quick.
