Lynx walked into the class, since there were no students it was quiet, just the way he liked it. He took a seat behind his desk as he began reading the Daily Prophet, it seemed that another Ministry worker had been charged with fraud, this didn't surprise the man in the least.

As Lynx flicked through his paper he was hoping that the students weren't expecting a bright and bubbly professor, as for to see Lynx smile is something which only very few people have witnessed. And if truth was told Lynx didn't much care for children either, he had a very clear stereotype that all children were loud and obnoxious, but to be fair every child which Lynx had met in his life so far had proved him right.

The man tossed a glance down at his watch and noticed that it was almost time for the students to start arriving, he let out a groan at this thought.

The Head Girl was excited to see another new name on the teaching roster. It would be quite fun to have new faces around the school. Seeing only "Professor L Vane" didn't give you much of a clue as to whether it was a man or a woman, but to Victoria, it didn't matter - she got along with everyone.

Victoria had finished her breakfast and closed her book early that morning, smiling to some of the other students on her way up to the third floor. The American witch was now very, very capable of finding her way around the castle, so the Charms classroom was a breeze to find. Checking her dainty silver watch, Victoria saw she was five minutes early.

With a warm, welcoming smile on her features, the witch stepped in to the classroom. "Good morning, professor!" Victoria greeted the man at the front of the room as cheerful as ever. Making her way to the front of the classroom, Victoria took up her seat and took out her textbook, notebook and quill ready for the lesson. "Welcome to Hogwarts, by the way, I'm Victoria Newbury, Head Girl." She added, thinking it only polite to welcome him and introduce herself. Her mum had always taught her to be polite, and she took it very seriously.

With Charms now on his timetable, Josh had made a quick order to Florish and Blotts for the textbook which had arrived by owl that morning. He hadn't originally planned on coming to the lessons, but he decided it was an easy grade and that he would give it a go.

Not in any hurry like the other students, Josh slipped in to the Charms classroom, taking in the professor but not acknowledging him before slipping in to his seat. Josh's cold blue gaze swept over the professor once more, calculating him, before he looked away and took out his notebook and a quill.

Josh had never much been interested in the teachers here, none of them had really been very good. But, he would give the man before him a moment to try to earn his respect before he cast him aside too. Though, Josh was quite sure his own mind was already made up, and the outlook was bleak.

As Lynx was halfway through reading his article he heard a student enter, he recognised her as the Hogwarts Head Girl, she was definitely in a chatty mood as she greeted him warmly and introduced herself, Lynx remained silent and continued to read his paper.

After a couple of minutes Lynx placed down his paper and noticed another student had arrived, he stood up and his eyes fixed on the Hufflepuff girl "Yes I know who you are, im not stupid you silly girl" Lynx said cuttingly

"Right, we're not wasting anymore time, Im Professor Vane and I will be teaching you Charms this year, if you think this is an easy subject where you wont have to work hard, you can leave right now, I do not have time for people who aren't dedicated" Lynx stated as he passed a cold look over the students

"Today we will be learning how to cast the Confundus charm, which of you can tell me what this charm does?" the man said as his eyes flicked between the two students.

Lesson 2 (6th-7th Years) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Lesson 2 (6th-7th Years)   Lesson 2 (6th-7th Years) EmptyWed Feb 04, 2015 8:09 pm

"Yes I know who you are, I'm not stupid you silly girl"

Had Victoria been any other witch, she might have soured towards the man. Retorted with equally cutting words, or tried to one up herself on the professor. But, perhaps thankfully in the professor's case, this was Victoria. Whilst she took the words on and felt a little pang of pain in her chest that the professor would be quite so rude, she wrote it off to the man having a bad day, or perhaps not understanding quite who he was talking to. Victoria wasn't silly, and if he'd known who she was, he would have known that.

So he was misinformed, which was... well, Victoria felt a little sorry for him a moment later.

But throughout, her smile never faltered.

As the man continued, however, Victoria came to see that he needed a cuddle. Quite a long cuddle, if she was honest. How someone felt like this she couldn't possibly tell, but she made a note to send him some candy sometime to make him feel better. But there was absolutely no way that Victoria was leaving, she was highly dedicated to her studies, and not even a man like the professor could change her enthusiasm.

"Today we will be learning how to cast the Confundus charm, which of you can tell me what this charm does?"

Raising her hand, as usual, Victoria waited to be called upon before recounting from her reading - though not sounding like the book itself. "The Confundus Charm is used to confuse one's opponent. The degree of the confusion is dependent on things such as strength of spell, concentration of caster, time, and intent. It can simply confuse someone in a minor way, or confuse them so much they become a danger to themselves. Because of the varying degree, it is difficult to say the spell does one thing." She answered, knowing it was right.

It seemed that the Head Girl was eager to answer as her hand shot up, Lynx look over towards her and gave her nod indicating she could speak. The man was quite surprised at the response, he was expecting quite a basic answer, but the answer the girl gave was textbook perfect, which pleased him slightly.

"Well looks like there is still hope for this class yet, that answer is correct Miss Newbury take 5 points to Hufflepuff" Lynx said gruffly

"So as you can imagine this charm can be quite powerful, in fact it can even be used in duelling, the Confundus charm requires a lot of concentration to perform it well. It also works well if the target has a clear mind in that it is not clouded with strong emotions such as fear or anger"

Lynx then went to his store room and came out with a cage containing one Cornish Pixie which he ordered the gamekeeper to catch before the lesson and placed it on his desk "Today we shall be practicing the spell on this Pixie, to cast the spell you rotate your hand in anticlockwise motion before giving it a sharp flick and saying the incantation Confundus" the man stated.

Lynx then pulled out his wand and levitated the cage around the room, spinning it around making it go upside down to anger the Pixie before levitating it back onto his desk

"Since this is a senior class, I will be expecting you to cast this charm while the Pixie is infuriated, now make your way up to the front of the class to perform the charm" Lynx said as he faced the students

"Well hurry up then" Lynx said in an annoyed tone

The man at the front of the room was a moron, Josh had come to realise almost the moment he'd begun speaking. No, Josh didn't much like the Head Girl (though he didn't like anyone) but her attitude was one he couldn't grasp. However, the Head Girl was not an idiot, that much he could appreciate and respect.

It seemed, however, that the man before him didn't quite understand things the same.

Victoria however, gave a more than satisfactory answer, and Josh couldn't help the small smirk that touched his lips a moment later as the professor didn't exactly know what had hit him. Good, Josh thought to himself as the man took out a cage of pixies. Humane treatment was not something Josh could ever understand and thus he was unphased by the man's complete lack of respect for the beasts.

Instead, Josh drew his wand and stood from his desk moving to the front of the classroom.

"Well hurry up then"

Josh raised an eyebrow at the man, before shaking his head. Impatience was a lesser man's game, and with every word the man spoke, he was truly showing his uneducated childhood. Pity.

Waiting for the man to open the cage, Josh readied himself for the pixie. It came only a moment later, and the Slytherin spoke clearly. "Confundus." He said, using the anti-clockwise movement with the flick at the end. No light left his wand, but the spell hit the creature hard, sending it spiraling backwards against the wall. Satisfied, Josh tucked his wand away.

"Pick something harder next time, Professor. This is a senior class, after all." Josh told the man, turning on his heel and moving back to the desk he was occupying.
