| The final lesson of the year, and Daniel had managed to get his hands on a Salamander's nest. The animals were rather rare, and only stayed alive for as long as their fire was still burning. But, to Daniel, they were very interesting, and he was more than happy to share the creature and it's delights with his students.
Being back in their usual meeting place for today's lesson, a large fire roare with a safety - of magical nature - line being drawn around it. It would keep the students at a safe distance, but also keep the Salamanders from straying too far. For now, at least, it was going to be a purely observational lesson.
Checking his watch, Daniel looked up to the castle, wondering just how many students were going to be arriving to today's lesson. Care of Magical Creatures, he hoped, was not nearly as stressful as a number of other lessons at this time of year. |

| Sophie made her way out of the school building and into the sunshine. Care of Magical Creatures was her favourite class not only because of the many different creatures she got to learn about - although that was really important - but also because it was one of the few classes held outdoors. She absolutely hated being cooped up inside when the wind and the sun were calling out to her.
Excited to see what they would be learning about, she broke into a jog and arrived at the usual place, seeing that she was the first one there. "Hi Professor!" she greeted brightly, panting a little from her exertion. Then, seeing the fire he had going, her eyes widened. "Oh, salamanders! We're doing salamanders today right?" Although she wasn't much of a reader, she'd devoured her CoMC textbook, reading page after page of the fascinating creatures that existed in the wizarding world. Though many of them were really cool, she hadn't found something that could rival a horse. Well, maybe a unicorn could.
Stepping as close to the fire as she was allowed, she peeked in, trying to catch sight of what she called "Fire Lizards".

| Prim liked CoMC but at the same time she hated the lesson purely because it was always outside; it made her irritable and made her knee twinge every time she spent even an hour outside. She ignored the fact that she played Quidditch and her knee itched even more then.
The female let out a soft sigh as she made her way towards the usual place for the lesson, her lips pulled into a frown as she hobbled over. Her eyes blinked when she noticed a firsty already there and she couldn't help the small giggle that escaped her lips before she nodded her head in greeting.
"Morning Professor, hello there Sophie." She recognised the young girl as one of the new first years they had gotten that year and the girl was like a female version of Max she had heard from rumours, which meant that she was probably as obsessed with animals as her best friend was. |

| Lessons were weird, here in Hogwarts. They learnt things that she didn't quite see the purpose to, like in Care of Magical Creatures. Sure, it was interesting to see some of the creatures and learn about them -- but it wasn't anything extra ordinary, or something that she couldn't learn about from books.
Classes like DADA or Charms she understood; practise was, naturally, not something that could be substituted with text on a page. But animals? Creatures? These were things for which a simple textbook would suffice.
Still, it was a nice change, more of a free period spent refreshing her memory of things she'd already read about, and she had to admit that there was something nice about being able to see these creatures up close. It gave her a chance to relax, to lower her guard just a little, since animals didn't have pasts or futures to See.
Stepping into the area, she nodded a greeting towards the Professor before noted the fire with a slight curiosity. "Salamanders," she murmured to herself. It was obvious from the fire, after all; to her knowledge, there were no other creatures that needed fire to survive. That and the magical line told her that was something that needed to be kept from straying or approached -- and salamanders were the only logical solution.
Staying away from the other students, she inched as close to the line as she dared, keeping her gaze fixed on the flames, watching for any signs of the creature. |

| Care of Magical Creatures was a class that Amber actually enjoyed. There were minimal spells, and animals were always far less prejudiced against Deaf people, making any interactions with them much more comfortable than with most humans. Besides, she loved taking care of creatures; a part of her liked the idea of caring for others instead of being the one in need of care.
But the one thing that scared her the most is that the Professor for this class was, in fact, the Headmaster. He was scary, and she didn't like the man -- not because he was rude or mean or anything of that sort, but simply because he was a man of power, and Amber always found those people frightening.
Stepping into the field, she nodded and waved a quick hello to the professor before standing at the side, near a Ravenclaw she knew from experience didn't talk much, for whatever reason. Waiting for Elleon -- because Merlin knew that he was one of her few friends, and her best friend -- she watched the fire, wondering what the topic for the day was. |

| If Corbin was going to be honest -- which he usually was -- he disliked mixed classes, when the younger years were allowed to join in. They hardly did anything worth participating, like taking care of krupps or some equally daft thing that wasn't worth his time. Oh, sure, playing with cute puppy-like creatures was a good break, but Corbin was here for the danger -- for the spells, the action, the excitement.
Give him dragons, give him hippogriffs, give him giant squids, give him three-headed dogs -- but these things were not always considered appropriate for the younger years (they could get hurt, apparently), and whenever they had combined classes, Corbin found himself groaning slightly.
Still, showing up early for class as he normally did, he greeted the Professor politely, and then stood to one side, noting with some interest the fire. That seemed, at the very least, slightly interesting, and as the people already around him started naming the animal, he ran through his memory, searching for any information that he had read up on them.
They seemed to be animals that required fire to live, and that was something that seemed slightly interesting. Perhaps -- just perhaps -- he'd been wrong in his assumptions. |

| Lux walked out into the spring sunshine, making her way leisurely to where class was usually held. It had been an uneventful day so far and she was hankering for some mischief. A small smile crossed her lips as she recalled her meeting with the dead idiot's sister. That had been real fun, especially when she got down on her knees and begged like a spineless fool. Lux had wanted to do more to the girl, play with her a little before telling her the whole story, but the inconvenient recollection of Kamrinda's face and voice prevented her from doing much more. She would be in deep enough trouble already if they ever caught wind of what she'd done.
There are other mice to play with. That much was true. Perhaps this CoMC class would provide her with a new victim. Of course, she wouldn't do it with the headmaster there - she wasn't stupid - but it didn't hurt to do a little...scouting.
Arriving at the group, she planted herself right at the back where she could get a good view of everyone. Her eyes moved to the fire and a grin crossed her lips. Salamanders. Lizards straight from the fires of hell. My kind of animals. To bad they didn't suck blood and breathe out balls of fire too. |

| Besides Potions, Care of Magical Creatures was the only other class that didn't stress him out too much. He didn't have to get a spell just right, or pronounce things a certain way. After all, the animals didn't backfire if you said their name wrongly. Besides, getting to learn about so many different fascinating creatures was an added bonus.
Arriving at the sizable group of students, Elleon found Amber and announced his arrival with a tap on her shoulder and a bright smile. His gaze moved to the large fire that was going and his eyebrows creased in confusion. Was it there to warm them up? It was already spring and though it was cool, it wasn't cold enough to warrant a bonfire in the middle of class.
He didn't stare at the fire for too long, the brightness and flickering making his eyes hurt. Instead, he turned to Amber. "Know what we're doing today and why there's a fire there?" he asked. |

| Animals were awesome. They were usually cute and fluffy, and if they weren't they were still really cool, and so Eleonora automatically liked Care of Magical Creatures. There were times that they weren't allowed to play or touch with whatever was on display, perhaps because they were too dangerous or could hurt people, but those were the classes that the Gryffindor part of her -- the side that almost got her sorted into Red and not Yellow -- got excited.
Besides, there was something about danger that was thrilling, whether or not one could actually get hurt. She was certain that the professor wouldn't let that happen, but it still made her jump (literally) in excitement.
So when she stepped past the group of students already there and saw a fire and heard the murmurs of Salamandar, her face broke into a grin. "Hello Professor -- I mean headmaster. Today looks like it's going to be fun, but also like, salamanders get really big and I want to ask if these are the big ones, or if these are the small ones? Because I hope it's big and not small, because it's cooler if they're big." |

| Arthur hurried along to Care of Magical Creatures knowing he was verging on late and that was enough to drive the Slytherin mad. Hurrying to their meeting place for the lesson, Arthur was confronted with quite a crowd of people already there. A quick assessment told him that Carlotta had not made it to the lesson, and the boy was more than a little put out by that.
"Morning professor." The boy said softly, standing off from the group on his own because he wasn't really that much of a social butterfly. It was then, and only then, that Arthur noticed the large fire, and animals crawling around in it. Well, not animals, lizards... salamanders, he believed. Arthur had read a little bit on them, but he was by no means an expect.
Looking to the professor, Arthur wondered whether they were going to be able to do anything more than look at them. |
