The question that came, with all the evidence between them made Jacques look to the witch with disbelief.

"My father gets exactly the same information, about my movements." Jacques replied to her. It was not a direct answer to her question, but it was an answer. "He insists he doesn't look at it, because he trusts me. But, if I were to do anything that would be against his wishes, he would know about it.

"A Clement doesn't have freewill. We live to serve the family.

"If I had freewill, this conversation wouldn't be necessary.

"We could be together, forever."

He could take her calling him every word under the sun.

He could take her anger.

But not not.

"SHUT UP!" The Frenchman shouted, breaking his vow of never raising his voice towards women. His fist had collided with the counter in the same moment, deafeningly loud and silencing the room. A scorch mark left behind.

"You can come after me all you want. But don't you dare question my family." Jacques seethed, glowering at Kiranjeet. "This. This is why you could never be the Lady Clement. You do not know your place!"

And there is was, laid bare.

The backlash was expected, but that didn't make the sting any less prominent in that moment. The woman he loved knew how to tear him down just as easily as she built him up in the last two years.

"I never expected you to understand my world, but I at least hoped you'd understand me." Jacques returned.

His hand moved to his pocket, withdrawing the keys to her apartment and putting them down on the counter between them.

"I can see I was highly mistaken to believe you would see it this way."

With that, the Frenchman apparated.

Giving her guilt afterwords a legitimate timeline might put an end to their rendezvous.

The invitation had come that night after an argument with the Lady Clement. Lyon had been the note, and Jacques had arrived there with only the hope that she wouldn't refuse.

Not that she had in the last year, a note Jacques wished he wasn't keeping a tab on.

The Frenchman stood on the balcony, a glass of whiskey in hand as he considered the night sky before him. The brooding figure of the Lord Clement wasn't a new sight, truthfully.

But the brooding always melted when she drew near

Another association he wish he hadn't noticed of Azalea Harrington.

The two words would be all it took to release the tension from his shoulders. Only those closest would see it, but it was there.

"Mon rêve..." Jacques breathed, placing down his glass and turning to the witch. It would be the brief moment of pause, only a small hesitance, before Jacques closed the gap.

His arms drawing her close.

His lips meeting hers with the clear signs of how much he'd missed her. His gratefulness for her appearance. The clear signs the man needed her close to him, and nobody else in the world would ever replace her.
