Classes were a bore. In all honesty, they never really made sense to her, since she could learn most of the things from textbooks and hands on practice, anyway. Well, everything except a couple of things: how everyone acted, and what their weaknesses were. Those things could only be learnt from observation and keeping tabs on them, nothing less.

So, that was the only reason she went to classes. Why would she bother otherwise?

Arm in arm with Finley (for if she had to suffer through classes, she might as well do it with her boyfriend), she headed down the path, heading towards the clearing. But something was different; there were no animals waiting for them. Or, at least, she didn't think there were, since she couldn't see any, although something was nagging at her that she was missing something. She hid a frown as she looked around, trying to figure it out.

Turning to the Ravenclaw attached to her arm, she offered him a smile. "So, what do you think we're learning about?" she asked, casually, although her mind had already started forming theories.

Severine hated Care of Magical Creatures, mostly due to the fact that it was all the way outdoors and the animals usually stunk and whatnot. It was the cleanest class and she always felt as though she needed five showers afterwards. The Heiress frowned and debated seeing about switching classes, but the other classes that would replace it would be just as bad if not worse. Maybe she'd get lucky and today's lesson wouldn't be all that bad.

The Gryffindor had notice from afar that quite a crowd had already gathered and she sighed. She didn't mind being around people but most of these people were of mixed blood and so that was what she minded the most. In her opinion, Hogwarts should only allow Purebloods in and the Half-bloods and Muggleborns should have to go to a different school that wasn't as qualified in teaching. But of course, they would never do that and so she was stuck here, picking and choosing who she could and couldn't associate with and sometimes, it wasn't as simple as one would think.

The girl stood in the back of the group and waited for class to start. She hoped the lesson would be somewhat interesting and she really hoped that she wouldn't need to be touching an animal. Looking around, she hadn't seen anything and she hoped that didn't mean they'd be heading into the forest. Maybe though, luck was on her side and they were having a lesson without the actual animal.

Care of Magical Creatures wasn't really his thing but he was here because he wanted to learn more and because this was his sister's favorite class. He could never say no to his twin so when she politely asked him, he had said yes and now here he was living up to it and hoping that she actually showed up because if she didn't then he was here for nothing. He looked at the Creature and was a little confused on why it was there then he remembered the class name and knew why.

Arden waited for the class to start so he could learn what the hell that creature was, he really wanted to know and was hoping he got no points taken away from his house. The Ravenclaw let his eyes wonder to see if Anya was there as well but of course she wasn't. His sister wanted to know who this girl was but she wasn't there so he couldn't show her.

Being not so smart when it came to Care of Magical Creatures wasn't at all fun. She loved attending the class though because she learned more and more each day and it was something she loved to do every time classes came around. The young Hufflepuff practically skipped the entire way to Care of Magical Creatures, but she didn't of course which was fine for her. The young girl was finally sixteen so that meant one more year of school and then she was out of there. Thinking about leaving Hogwarts made her sad but she would get over it.

It wasn't the school that made her sad, it was the experience that she had while at the school. The school was great but it helped develop her a little bit and she loved the school for that. Audrina joined her brother in the class and she waited for it to begin.

Anya felt a jolt of excitement as she neared the space where the Care of Magical Creatures class was gathered. Care of Magical Creatures was easily one of the Hufflepuff's favourite classes. She loved learning about different creatures. Creatures, much like people, all had their own histories and backstories. Anya got a thrill out of learning the stories that were behind every creature.

When Anya entered the group of students, she noticed that some of them were looking at and chatting about something. She looked for a moment before realizing that there was nothing there. She wondered why the class was in awe over thin air. Furthermore, she wondered why they were learning about what appeared to be nothing.

After giving up on trying to find a creature within the obvious nothing, Anya looked around the students for a familiar face. She noticed Severine towards the back and began to make her way towards her. This effort was interrupted by the sighting of Arden Snow.

Anya had only encountered Arden Snow on one or two occasions, but she enjoyed the boy's company. He was interesting to talk to, though a bit direct at times. Changing course, she walked over to where the Ravenclaw stood.

"What do you think we're learning about?" She asked Arden, twisting a lock of brown hair around her ring finger. She knew that the lesson was not going to be wasted on nothing. There had to be some potential in what they could not see.

As per usual, Gabrielle had forgotten to do advance reading for Care of Magical Creatures. Not that she ever remembered to do advance readings for subjects other than Potions, anyway. With Care of Magical Creatures, though, it was difficult to come unprepared. If you didn't know whether a creature was wild or tame or had a flaming cobra for a tail, chances are you ended up in the Infirmary, and Gabrielle just did not have time to waste on getting injured. Not when it was her final year in school, and her time to shine.

It didn't surprise her any longer when she came to the class and couldn't see the creature. Ah, so it was an invisible creature then. In order to figure out what sort creature they would be studying, Gabrielle studied the setup. There was a bucket of meat in the paddock, and the large empty space meant that the creature would be nothing like those tiny (and annoying) crups they had studied last year. Theories formed in her head, and to confirm them, she glanced around to see her fellow students' reactions.

Lux Bailey, the Slytherin Prefect who she only knew by name, was staring hard at something. That wasn't really new for the Slytherin prefect (or at least, according to what Gabrielle knew of her), but there were quite a few others staring at the same spot. Just as she searched the faces in the crowd for their reactions, her gaze landed on Kayleigh Walters, the young Gryffindor notorious for making their classes... interesting, to say the least. It was when Kayleigh asked if the creature was a zombie pegasus that Gabrielle was able to confirm her theory.

A Thestral. They can only be seen by people who have witnessed death and were largely affected by it.

Without realising it, her jaw had dropped as she watched the young Gryffindor, who she always assumed had a much better life than her. As a child of divorced parents, Gabrielle always felt as if her family circumstances weren't as good as everyone else's. However, seeing the young girl react to the Thestrals made Gabrielle wonder what the girl had seen, and how she was able to stay so bubbly and energetic.

Gabrielle looked away, unable to comprehend the emotions beginning to overwhelm her. Walters' life was her own problem, and Gabrielle didn't need more to add to hers.

Kaleb was exhausted, he had stayed up all night unpacking his trunk. He didn't realize how much clothes he had in his trunk until the night before when he spent most of the night unpacking it. He should have waited until today but his school robes were at the bottom of his trunk so he needed to do it before the classes started the next day. The Gryffindor walked to the class and saw a few people he didn't know at all. He wished he was more on the popular side that way he didn't have to stand alone but it was alright.

He found a spot near a few of the students but at a good distance in case they didn't want to be bothered. Kaleb looked at the creature and smirked when he knew what it was. Thestral. This was going to be a great lesson if you asked Kaleb.

Care of magical creatures was one of the more bearable classes. It was outside, not in a stuffy classroom while someone droned on and on about things that she didn't really care for. Not that she had a particular love for animals, but it certainly wasn't brain dead boring.

She walked to the area where class was being held, seeing that others had arrived before her. And she saw the creatures that they'd be studying for the lesson. She'd been able to see them, pulling the carriages when she arrived back from the holidays, since her second year when she first began taking the carriages to the castle. Funnily enough, no one else that she spoke to (which, fair enough, was not that many people) couldn't. She hadn't bothered questioning it, forgetting about it until she had to take the carriages the next year. Now it would seem that she would finally have answers.

The Care of Magical Creatures course was probably his favorite class of the lot. Humphrey liked almost all of them, but the chance of getting to work with animals the way they were allowed to was both interesting and quite fun. As he walked across the grounds towards the class he found himself eagerly anticipating whatever it was they would be learning about today. Their teacher always did a splendid job in his opinion, not that anybody really cared what he thought. When he finally got there he pulled up a little short, and stared in amazement. It was definitely not what he had been expecting on the first day.

Thestrals, creatures that could only be seen by those who had witnessed death. Instantly an image of his maternal grandfather dying flashed before his eyes, it was the reason he could see them. His father had told him about them, and last year he had caught a glimpse or two of them flying above the forest. However, this was his first time getting a chance to see it up close. Stepping forward, he couldn't help staring in wonder at the beautiful creature. Some might find a skeletal looking winged horse with leathery skin to be creepy, but it seemed beautiful to him. Also, contrary to what one might expect of such an animal, the beast seemed rather gentle. Humphrey smiled a mile wide, before turning to greet the professor. "Hello Professor, it feels good to be back." he said cheerfully.

Finley's O.W.L. results had come the last week of August, and he was happy with them. Very happy, actually. His marks in Defence Against the Dark Arts, Potions and Dueling had not been surprising, but they were still good marks. Care of Magical Creatures had been one of the classes he'd achieved an Outstanding in, and Finley had opted to continue with it.

Having met up with Madison before heading down to the class meant that Finley had someone to walk down to class with, for a change. With Madison's arm slipped through his, Finley felt a lot more confident in himself. And, slowly, he was becoming used to physical contact - though he doubted it would be comfortable with anyone else except Madison.

Arriving at the clearing for Care of Magical Creatures, Finley frowned to himself. Professor Jameson was holding a bucket or what looked like raw meat, but he couldn't see any animals nearby that would need it. Looking around, he could see some people looking at something... but Finley couldn't see...

"So, what do you think we're learning about?"

"I... t-think it might be... Thestrals." Finley replied, keeping his voice low in case one, he was wrong and two, it was part of the lesson to work it out. But, Finley's voice held a note of uncertainty as he kept looking around to figure it out.
