Before entering Hogwarts, Mina never expected for Care of Magical Creatures to become her favourite subject. She had always been fond of creatures and animals, but she had never realised how much up until she found herself buying a large amount of books on magizoology and naturalism. Her favourite creatures were the equine ones, and so the idea of studying Thestrals made her immediately take a spot in the front.

She could not really see the Thestral—or Thestrals, if Professor Jameson had brought more than one of them. It was the empty paddock that gave her the idea, which was supported by the bucket of meat and the whispers amongst the students. Trying hard not to smirk, she ignored them and observed the paddock instead, wondering how they could take care of something they could not see.

Thestrals were quite difficult to handle, or at least that was what she had read about them, and it made her wonder why the Headmaster had chosen the animal for his first class of the term. Some people were superstitious about them, too, and those who saw them would only be reminded of the deaths they had witnessed. Looking at the empty space, she was torn between her curiosity about the animal, and wariness due to the different problems that could arise from studying them.

Aaron was glad to be back at Hogwarts for another year. He had parted with his family at Kings Cross, though unhappy they might be. He made his way slowly to the grounds as he read over his time table. Care of Magical Creatures was not his forte. However as he needed to be there for the exams that would obviously take place at the end of the year over the summer. As he joined the class he noted the empty paddock. and Professor Jameson feeding some invisible creature. He greeted him with a small wave and smile merging kind of in the middle of the students. His first thought was Thestrals.

He had never seen anyone die, though he really didn't want to, he thought of Thestrals as a really intriguing animal. Glad that today's lesson wasn't going to as bad as he thought, he dropped his bag at his feet and waited for the lesson to begin.

When Joshua arrived at Care of Magical Creatures, there were already quite a few people there. He figured that he was not late as much as he was not particularly early. He noticed a few familiar faces, though he had only encountered a few of them. He noticed the face of Kaleb Ambrose right away. He had seen Kaleb a few times over the summer. They made plans to go on adventures and find greatness, though Joshua didn't know if they ever actually would.

Kaleb was a cool enough guy. Every now and then, Joshua started thinking of the Gryffindor as more than a normal friend. He wondered what would happen if something romantic was there, but he would never act on it. His parents were already disappointed enough. The last thing they needed was to know that their son liked boys as well as girls.

When he got close enough to the group of students, he noticed that some were standing in awe over a bony, winged horse. Other students looked confused, as if they could not see the creature. Joshua knew what the animal was and he knew why he could see it.

Joshua had read every book he could get his hands on before he got to Hogwarts. He had read about Thestrals in a book a while back while he was studying for Hogwarts. They were skeleton-like horses that had wings and one could only see them if they had witnessed and come to terms with someone's death.

In the summer between first and second year, Joshua had gone back home to Massachusetts. He and two of his cousins, Julia and Travis were walking downtown in a small town called Sandwich. They were headed to the fields of an abandoned school near the edge of town. They had been joking around and jumping around, not paying much attention to those around them. As they walked, they did not notice that the crosswalk traffic light was not shining the green "walk" light. Julia ran ahead, getting to the middle of the street before a silver Honda sped by, colliding with her small body.

It had taken Joshua years to come to terms with his cousin's death, but he knew that his cousin would kill him if she had known that he was spending his time mourning instead of living. She would have wanted what was best.

Looking at the Thestrals, he smiled. It was like a little secret that he and Julia now had. He could see the Thestrals because she had given him that ability. In a way, the horses represented what he had lost and it connected it to him.

Life was good. He hadn't gone back home during the holidays, but that was okay, because it meant he didn't have to put up with his parents nagging at him for results and whatnot. They wanted him to become a Healer, because they thought it was similar to being a doctor, but when he explained that there were no surgeries in his world, they had turned their nose up at it. Surgeons were charged per surgery, and if there was none of that where he was, what was the use of being a Healer? Naturally, therefore, they were pestering him on jobs and what would earn the most money.

And Chee Wye was honestly just not in the mood for that. He wanted to live one day at a time and enjoy what he had - and what he had was a bunch of really hot ang mohs around him.
[Translation: Ang moh is a Chinese term for 'white people'.]

Work, away from home, had been great, but now he was back in school and he couldn't be happier. He had his friends - Finley and Stephen and Elleon and Mei Xin - and lots of hot girls to look at. Making his way down to the field for his CoMC class, he couldn't help but notice the weird looking creatures in the distance.

Seeing Mei Xin already there, he moved towards her, since Finley was with his girlfriend (Fuyoo, he really score leh, he thought) and Stephen wasn't there yet. Besides, it was easier to communicate with the female. "Morning Mei Mei," he greeted her, looking towards the things standing near them. "Eh, so ugly hor today's creatures. Ho cham. Mother also cannot love."
[Translation of thoughts: "Wow! He really scored on this one."] [Translation of words: "Hey, today's creatures are so ugly, don't you think? It's a pity; even their mother couldn't love them!"]

Annabelle cursed softly under her breath as she ran across the grounds to her first class. CoMC was one of the classes she had been looking forward to since coming to the school that year. But like always she had trouble getting up in the mornings and like always was running very late for it. In fact she had been in such a hurry she hadn't even noticed her pet Puffskein,Squishy having slipped into her bag that morning as she went looking for her left shoe. (It ended up being by the fireplace in the common room, how it got there she still didn't know.) But it seemed as luck was still on her side as she got closer to the group of students,it looked like she had just made it in time! But her happiness soon turned into shock at the sight of what looked to be the creatures that they would be learning about today.

In fact she was so shocked that the sight she failed to notice the patch of wet grass until she was already running over it. "W-Whoa!" She shouts in surprise as she suddenly loses her footing and lands with a thump on her back on the ground. "I'm okay!" She cried out quickly before starting to get up slowly and looked around "Anyone see where my bag went?" She asked with a merry laugh as she started brushing herself off. She had lost her grip on her bag when she had fallen sending it and its hidden occupant inside flying a dozen feet or so away, luckily not hitting anyone.

"Professor, is that supposed to be here...?"

Daniel wanted to be surprised that a class member could see the creatures before him, but he was not. Unfortunate as that might sound, he knew people saw horrors in their lives, no matter how young they might be. "Yes, Alberi, they are supposed to be here." Daniel replied, giving the Gryffindor a small, sad smile to show he understood the implications of the boy being able to see.

"Um. Excuse me, sir. I don't see anything,"

"Then you are both one of the lucky ones." Daniel replied - to the boy, not the girl who was interpreting for him. Though, his eyes did glance at the movements, they meant little to him. "Though, I suppose for this lesson, you're unlucky." Daniel replied, giving the boy a knowing smile, but no further information in that moment.

"Is that a zombie pegasus?"

Daniel couldn't help but let out a small laugh at the question he had been asked. "My holidays were great, thank you." He replied to the original question, before continuing. "No, Kayleigh, they're not zombie pegaus', though, I suppose the guess is quite close." He replied, though, once more, he did not give any further information on the lesson. Not yet.

When it seemed the last of the students had arrived - the last landing quite heavily on the ground, before springing back up. Daniel decided, in that moment, not to comment on this. She seemed okay, so he could get on with his lesson.

"Okay, welcome back everyone. For those who don't yet know, I'm Professor Jameson, or Headmaster Jameson if you prefer. Today, as some of you might have noticed, we will be studying an unusual animal. Now, those of you who can see the animal beside me, would you like to tell the rest of the class what it is. And, once that answer had been given, anyone else can give me some interesting facts about the beast.

"Don't be shy now!" Daniel insisted, looking around the class hopefully.

Brooklyn hadn't really noticed or cared about the animal that was beside the Professor until he mentioned it. She looked up and looked at the creature. It was obviously obvious on what it was and anyone with a god damn brain would be able to know what that ugly creature was. Brooklyn sighed and decided she would swallow her pride and just answer the Professor's damn question. "Thestral" Brooklyn answered the Professor's question. She decided that she wouldn't answer the second part of the question since he wanted someone else to do it.

The Slytherin just stood there waiting for someone else to answer the damn question. It wasn't that hard to know the answer to this question. All they had to do was give some kind of fact about the creature they were learning about. The creature that looked ugly in her eyes but then again she didn't really like classes so she didn't understand why she was here to begin with but it was better then repeating the year over again and having to watch everyone else continue on their way out of Hogwarts while she got stuck staying.

Ryder had remembered his classes from last year and how the last Care for Magical Creatures class involved cute little animals which some of the first years had wanted to touch and play with and soon he smiled as he began walking to his first Care for Magical Creatures class of the year, and letting out a smirk.

He easily did not care, but he also loved smirking and acting like he actually cared since in all truth he did not care, all he cared about was sports and the only thing which he actually would waste time trying to do good in not other core subjects which he felt he had no use for.

The twelve year soon saw the class getting closer and closer in sight as he soon saw he was late and he smirked since he would rather be sleeping than actually being to be to class on time since he was a typical twelve year old who would rather be having fun instead of actually following rules.

Which soon led to him to see an ugly looking creature standing by the professor and he rolled his eyes what was this, and soon he listened as it was said to be a Thestral and he smirked and the creature sure did not look good in his eyes and soon he sat and looked and just wondered what in the world was going to happen.

The answer to Daniel's question came, and the Headmaster looked around for the next part of the question, but nothing came to light. Deciding to continue on for the class, Daniel motioned to his right hand side where a Thestral stood - for the benefit of those who could see the creatures, at least.

"Well done, Brooklyn, you're correct, it is indeed Thestrals that we will be studying today." Daniel told the class, hoping this would clear things up for those who could not see the subject of today's lesson. "Now, Thestrals can only be seen by those who have witnessed death and come to accept that the person who has died is gone. Whilst this is not a happy thought for most people, for some it does bring a sense of comfort around these animals.

"Thestrals are carnivorous and when wild they are known to hunt other animals. However, the ones in the Hogwarts grounds - and the ones that bring you up to the castle from your second year up - are trained and fed by the groundskeeper to stop from any accidents happening." Daniel explained, giving the animal beside him some more of the raw meat from the bucket he was holding.

"Now, for today's lesson, I want you to come up and touch the beasts - those who can't see the beasts, come to me and I will help you to find a beast to pet. Take in how they feel, and feel free to ask me any questions that come to mind." Daniel continued, motioning for everyone to start moving. "You will also be expected to hand me an essay on Thestrals at the next lesson, so make sure you can pick up as many facts as possible."

Tristan had walked out to Care for Magical Creatures, and he had just felt tired like he had not slept and he soon he knew it was time he needed to get his mind back to normal when he was bit by a werewolf and now was no longer human he was a werewolf, and soon Tristan walked to class and he soon made it to the group of students as he smiled and he looked and he wondered what would be taught today.

The fourteen year old as he listened to that he was going to be learning about Thestrals and he wondered if it was those creatures which only one sees if they experienced seeing someone die, and he soon proceeded to listen as he knew he needed to get back on schedule and focus on being the smart kid he was.

Tristan soon looked and he listened as students answered questions and listened as the Professor told them that the lesson would involve them coming up to touch the animals and he looked and he sighed and he smiled he knew he would not mind touching them as he just waited until he was instructed.
