| Jurian looked to see else would talk and his eyes went wide when he saw who it was. He recalled when he was lost in the dungeons and the Slytherin's warning about talking to the girl. Glancing back at the teacher he saw him nod and give points to the girl which meant she was right. Then seeing he was chosen to help with the spell he grinned, smile widening at the teacher's description of him and went to the front of the room happily. Bouncing on the balls of his feet he turned to the Slytherin and saw she was ready. Nodding when she declared it aloud, he pulled his wand and quickly thought before he nearly snickered. Part of him wanted her to succeed so he could see how it felt to move in slow motion.
"Relashio!" he called pointing his wand at his opponent and the purple light left it at the same time he heard the girl call her attack and saw the turquoise colored spell. The teacher hadn't said he couldn't defend himself as he bounced about on his feet waiting to for the spell to hit him. Of course he didn't think Jake wanted him to just stand there and allow himself to be hit either. But he wanted to know if it felt the same as when he and Jasper had made their own jelly pit. Unable to curb his curiosity he allowed the light to hit him and found that he couldn't move. ________________________________________________♮ Larch & Unicorn Tail ♮♮ PROFILE ♮♮ Directionally Challenged ♮There are no strangers here; Only friends you haven’t yet met

| Mimosa had fully expected he Ravenclaw boy to stand in place and let her stack him. After all, the purpose of the demonstration was to show how good she was at the jinx and how it was performed expertly. The kid really didn't seem to get it though, but then again not even Ravenclaws were as intelligent as she was.
Her incantation took longer than his, her movements smooth and fluid as opposed to his hyper jarring up and down cast. And before she could finish, the girl felt something on her fingers. Something that didn't quite yet manifest as pain but which made her lose her grip on the wand. The witch stepped back with a soft "Eep!" as her wand clattered to the floor.
Her gray eyes landed on the boy, who looked a little too pleased with himself for her liking, and still very much bouncing on the balls of his feet.
"Never mind, the wand was just slowing me down anyway," she declared, turning to the boy once more. Turning to the ball of energy once more, she spoke clearly.
"Impedimenta!"
And should the boy not move to defend himself, the effect of the knockback jinx would be clear. His bounce would slow with immediate effect, almost as if he had run into an invisible wall from all sides. His muscles would lock into place as a grin lit up Mimosa's face, turning her beatific features even more so. Taking a step towards Jurian if uninterrupted, she would lightly tap the boy on the forehead.
Sending him falling backwards to the ground in comical slow motion.
"And that, is how it's done," she declared to the class, doing a formal curtsy. As Grandmere always said, ladies don't start duels, but they can finish them. ________________________________________________

| Jurian hadn't expected to actually hit the girl with his spell, but once he had he couldn't help the grin that crossed his face. Curious, he watched with wide eyes as she cast the spell and the light hit him. He'd been in mid bounce so found that standing on ones toes wasn't fun. He didn't know how ballerina's did it. He thought that maybe he'd be in slow motion like in the cartoons or something, but having to actually experience was something else. It wasn't s if he couldn't move, but it was more like that one space show he'd seen. To him, time was moving regular, but he was sure that for the rest of the class it was happening a lot faster making it look as if he wasn't moving at all. It was curious. Before he knew it he felt something on his forehead but he couldn't reach up and swat at it before he was falling. Hitting the floor he blinked and wanted to bounce up and ask to do it again. Maybe he could ask the Slytherin boy to throw the spell at him later? ________________________________________________♮ Larch & Unicorn Tail ♮♮ PROFILE ♮♮ Directionally Challenged ♮There are no strangers here; Only friends you haven’t yet met | |

| The option of bringing up Mimosa and Jurian had been a good on in Jake's mind. Jurian, the ever bouncy child would be the perfect target for the spell should Mimosa correctly perform the spell. Which, Jake assumed, she would, having noted that she knew how to do the spell. However, when the two had made it to the front of the room, it wasn't Mimosa who cast the spell first.
No, instead Jurian tried, and Jake flinched almost automatically at this notion, barely stopping himself from intervening to protect his daughter from an errant spell.
But his own reaction was not needed.
The magical energy in the room spoke for itself, even though Mimosa hadn't moved to block or counter the spell coming her way. Confusion touched Jake's features for a second as he looked back to Jurian to find him stuck in place. Mimosa hadn't used her wand to counter, but she had countered. And that was a far cry from what he'd been expecting to show the class today.
Taking his own wand, Jake finished Mimosa's spell, freeing Jurian from its effects.
"Well done, both of you. Take five points each for your respected houses." Jake told them, motioning for them to return to their seats. "Now, as some of you may be aware, Mimosa just blocked the spell using wandless magic, before sending back the spell in the same manner. This is another form of magic we will look in to later in your school years. But, did we all see the effects of the spell that Mimosa did?"
With the show of understanding from the class, Jake smiled to them all.
"Good, good, now, if you'd all like to break up and try to use the spell on one another -- only this spell -- I will come around and help those who need me." Jake explained, once again motioning for them all to start the activity with a partner of their choosing.
From there, he would mill around the classroom helping, all the while keeping an eye on Mimosa, and whether she was using her wandless magic again. ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~

| The little witch took her seat again with a wide smile lighting up her face. She loved it when Jake was proud of her and he certainly sounded proud right now as he told the class what he had done. The brunette wasn't exactly sure what exactly it was but she assumed it was just being herself, everyone loved her just the way she was.
"Good, good, now, if you'd all like to break up and try to use the spell on one another -- only this spell -- I will come around and help those who need me."
The teenage Slytherin didn't need telling twice, normally Mercy would be ehr go to person for any DADA partnered activity. Today however, it looked like Lyra needed more help. So sending an apologetic wave to Mercy, the brunette clung to Lyra, partnering with her to practice the spell.
"Here, you go first since I've already tried it out."
The Hufflepuff nodded, moving to stand a few feet across from Mimosa. Despite Mimosa's encouragement though, it was obvious the Seeker didn't have the heart to do anything properly today. After three failed attempts, the Slytherin held up her hand.
"Do you wan me to show you again?"
"Sure."
Instead of casting the spell on Lyra however, Mimosa winked. A few feet sideways, Jia En and Ji Hyun were paired up, trying to jinx each other with little results. "Look, Jia En's glasses are about to be knocked off," Mimosa explained as a second later, exactly that happened.
Almost instinctively, Mimosa's spell hit, not targeting the girl but her thin, unframed spectacles, slowing them down until it looked they were almost floating and dancing on their way down. The spectacles landed on the floor unharmed, much to the girl's surprise.
"See, now you try."
Lyra still wasn't getting it though and by the time the bell rang and Jake called the class to a close, the Hufflepuff had only managed to make Mimosa slightly slow in her pirouettes. But it was the best the Seeker could do, and no one should judge her for it.
After all, not everyone could be excellent at everything like Mimosa was. ________________________________________________

| The lesson continued on with varying degrees of success being shown throughout the class. The professor would step in as he was needed with each pair, or else provide encouragement where needed to the others. It was not an easy spell to master, but with practice he was sure all of his students would be able to get close to it.
The class came to its usual end with the bell, and Jake hurriedly telling his students where they could find the notes on the spell in case it came up on the tests at the end of the year. Whether many of the students heard, or indeed took note of what he was saying, Jake could not really say. He didn't blame them for wanting to get out of the classroom, Merlin knew that he wished he could be anywhere else right now.
"See you next week!" Jake called after his students as they rushed from the class, letting out a soft sigh as he turned to his own things and collected them up.
Class now closed. House Points: Mercy Williams - 10 points for attendance Jurian Taggart - 10 points for attendance + 5 points for answer + 10 points for participation = 25 points Apollonia Leandros - 10 points for attendance + 5 points for answer = 15 points. Mimosa Harrington - 10 points for attendance + 5 points for answer + 15 points for participation = 30 points.
