With Christmas fast approaching, Jake was looking forward to the holiday season - and who wouldn't be, really? Though, in fairness, he hadn't asked Marilyn what she wanted to do for Christmas, Jake had the idea it was going to be a good year. Shaking his head of the non-work related thoughts, Jake readied himself for the lesson.

Out of the ordinary, there were desks in Jake's room, which meant it was going to be a little more theory based than usual, but (hopefully) not boring to his students. This was a very personal subject to Jake, not that anyone would know, but he hoped he could do the topic justice.

Sitting on his desk as he usually did when he waited for students, the chalk for the board was moving on it's own accord to display one single word.

Werewolves.

It was going to be an interesting lesson to see what the students knew and thought of the creatures, but he hoped they would enjoy it no less, despite the lack of practical application.

After the first lesson of Defence Against the Dark Arts, Finley hadn't been overly keen on coming back to the classroom in all honesty. Fainting was not a nice experience, and now Professor Newbury probably thought he was quite weak. It wasn't the case, he just hadn't been able to breath last time.

But he'd had a serious talk with himself, and told himself he couldn't be a coward.

Which was why he was now on his way to Defence Against the Dark Arts, trying to keep himself calm, not panic, and definitely not run in the opposite direction. So far, it was working. And when he opened the door to find desks and his professor, Finley knew there was no turning back now.

"G-good morning, s-sir." Finley acknowledged the man, trying not to look too confused by the chairs as he made his way to the front and took out his books. It was difficult, staying calm, but he was doing his best despite the situation. And setting things out neatly always helped Finley a lot.

With winter came sickness, some students had pointed out just yesterday. It turns out that, for British folk; people who were supposed to be accustomed to this degree of cold weather, getting ill as a result of the weather was no exception. All night Kellin could hear distant coughs and sneezes, sniffles and groans, keeping him awake for longer than he’d have preferred. Illness was spreading fast through the common room, and there was only so much Kellin could do to make sure he kept his hands off of anything that people may have touched. He didn’t want to get ill. It wouldn’t be a nice experience for what was supposed to be the nicest time of year. Who even said that? Who was the idiot that decided, poorly, that snow, cold weather and Christmas carols made this the best time of the year? Ask Kellin, he’d have told you that Autumn was the best time. It wasn’t swelteringly hot nor was it too cold; plus he liked the color of leaves during the time when they transitioned from green to brown and dead. He was sure a lot of people agreed with him.

Even though Kellin hated the snow, the cold, and the sneezing, oh Merlin the sneezing, he decided to attend his morning classes even though they were filled with people who had the flu or whatever the hell they had swimming in their systems. Defense Against the Dark Arts was his first class this December morning, so he straightened his Ravenclaw robe, and headed to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. Kellin's blue eyes scanned the classroom that he was very familiar with as he jaunted into the classroom. "Good morning." he said with a polite smile as he took his seat in the back. Werewolves. was on the board. Kellin had thought werewolves were just myths, due to growing up with muggles, but now he knew that there were some werewolves out there, and some of them were by no means friendly.

Rhys could hardly contain himself when he saw he had Defence Against the Dark Arts, he had never taken the subject before but he heard from some second years that it was best the subject, and all you basically did was learn really cool spells. This seemed something which we would be perfect for the young Ravenclaw.

As he entered the class a huge smile graced his face "Good morning Professor" he said in a cheery tone as he found a seat right at the front. Rhys didn't want to miss a single bit of the action. He pulled out his notebook and quill and sat them next to his wand.

Rhys's eyes then trailed over towards the board where he saw the word Werewolves written on the board, the young boy's eyes instantly lit up. They clearly were going to learn some amazing spell to defend against Werewolves, they might even get to face a real one. The young's boy buzzed with imagery of him single handedly defeating a Werewolf on his first attempt.

Determined not to be late for another class, at least not this side of christmas, Felix raced through the halls, slowing down around prefects and staff then bolting again once out of sight. She'd missed the last defence class at the start of the year and from what she heard it was one hell of a lesson. So this time she'd make up for it.

The second she dived in through the door, still thinking she was late she spotted the Ravenclaws and scratched her head thinking she'd got the wrong class. She spotted her herbology friend in the room too so that put her at ease, sos he grinned and found a seat near the boy, simply as he was familiar. There was another first year too but she didn't think she knew him just yet. "Morning professor!" She waved at Jake then spied the word on the board and her big grin just got a whole lot bigger.

She'd loved the thought of werewolves, probably not understanding the severity of the condition but in love with the idea of becoming a large, super strong super fast half wolf. The young Gryffindor was practically vibrating in place with excitement, not even bothered that today would be a mostly theory day.

The last class had gone spectacularly well in Madison's eyes, and again Melody wasn't not going to be with her. They had decided it was best not to confuse anyone just yet, and so only one half entered each room. If the Professors had been warned about them being identical, there had been no signs so far - what with them alternating classes they attended, never showing up together, and then just sharing notes.

Hoping it would be another practical spell - one that they could both use - the first year stepped into class. Maddie's face fell slightly noticing the chairs and tables. That usually meant boring things, books and such, but then she caught sight of the topic and her eyes lit up just a little more.

"Good morning, Professor!" she greeted cheerfully, doing her best not to giggle. She knew all too well that she had him wrapped around her finger. After all, her performance the last lesson had been a wonderful one indeed, and if Jake did not look at her and feel just slightly guilty for 'upsetting' her, then Madison would be rather disappointed in herself. Today would definitely be the testing phase for just how much she could push things without seeming like she was pushing.

Making her way to the front of the class, she sat next to Finley, greeting him with a soft hello as she took out her things and dumping them on her table. Underneath the table, she tapped his knee, and then held out a box containing a single chocolate frog. "For you," she said simply, putting in a little embarrassment in her tone, as though shy. Ah yes, today was going to be an excellent day.

If there was a Divine creator, then it was not a fan of Gabriel's. Not only did he fall out of bed this morning, slip in the shower and nearly choke to death on a breakfast sausage. His bag ripped open getting caught on one of the damn, trick doors and his Pranking attempt failed today. When he said attempt, he normally meant trying something on the Slytherins.

Gabriel quietly opened the door to the DADA room and noting the chairs quickly took a seat in the back, trying his best to keep his head down and largely out of trouble today. Though he did watch the Professor for a moment, and turned his attention to the board.

"Werewolves" He grimaced, at least it was something nearly everyone knew or had heard of. He wasn't a Werewolf hater by any means, he just thought it was strange they spend so much time researching them which can only kill once a month as apposed to something that could kill you all the time.

Brooke was already in love with most of her classes, with DADA being on the top of her list. The spells they learnt there were not only useful but amazing, and it also covered other things like creatures and whatnot. That was actually the reason she loved the class the most: it was almost like a mixture of everything, from magic to creatures to, well, life itself. And of course, it helped that the Professor was someone whom was soon becoming her favourite adult in the entire school.

So, entering class with a huge smile, she was temporarily confused by the presence of tables and chairs. DADA was normally one that didn't have any and used the free space for activities. Oooo this means something else is happening! I wonder what! This looks like fun! she thought, bounding up towards the front row and plonking herself in the seat.

"Hello Professor Jake!" she greeted happily. "What are we lea-" she cut herself off as her eyes caught sight of the single word on the blackboard and quite literally bounced in her seat. "Ooooooo werewolves! They're amazing! I read about them in a book before. Well, a few times, and many books, but they're amazing and I think they're fantastic and oooo this lesson is gonna be awesome! Nice choice Professor!" she continued not one second later, words jumbling together to form not difference sentences, but rather one very, very long word.

Smiling brightly at him, she then turned her attention to the person next to her. "Oh hey Finley! Nice to see you again! Well, I mean, I see you every class but hello anyway! How are you? I know I asked that the last class but feelings can change in short times, I think. At least for me they do. Do they for you, too? Oh hey that rhymes!" She giggled at herself and busied her hands by removing her textbook and notebook from her bag while waiting for Finley to answer her.

With each student that entered the classroom, Jake acknowledged them all with a soft hello. He could see the confusion on a couple of faces with the classroom being set up for a more theoretical class, but he figured they would soon understand why when their eyes moved to the board.

The last student, however, made Jake's smile flourish. The enthusiasm that radiated from the Gryffindor was... well, it was quite something. "Thank you." Jake replied to the witch when she complimented his choice of topic for the day. That already made him feel much better about the whole thing.

Waiting only a couple more moments for more students to turn up, Jake cleared his throat to signal class was about to start. "Right, good morning everyone. Welcome back to Defence Against the Dark Arts. Today is a little different to normal in that we won't be doing so much practical work, but a little theory today. Now, I know that doesn't sound like fun, but please give this lesson the benefit of the doubt before you write it off." Jake explained, hoping he would be able to keep this as lively as he could whilst still getting the facts across.

"For those who haven't yet realised, we will be studying werewolves today. Now, the best place is for us to start from what you lot already know. Please raise your hand, and give me one thing you know. It'll come up on the board behind me as you speak, so I would suggest noting things down in a spider diagram, or something equally as visual." Jake suggested, looking around the classroom.

"So, who would like to start us off with a fact about werewolves?"

Gabriel held his hand up and waited a little until he was called then simply said "They're pretty normal, other than they turn into beasts on the Full Moon." He spoke in a casual tone, looking not at the Professor but at the board with 'Werewolves' on it. "Most just worry about their next transformation, hoping to not hurt anyone....right?" He asked, not exactly sure.

He felt that they were in a sense very Normal, sure they had a small darkness on their being but who didn't? It could be said that Humans weren't so nice either, they murder each other in droves. The wolves at least have the kindness to lock or run away during the Moon.

After he answered, at least hopefully answered; he went back to staring at the window. He was listening but he just didn't much care for the topic, starting to wish he'd skipped the lesson and gone to the Forest.
