| Finley had, indeed, picked the right spot to stand. He was a clever boy, and he was quite aware of that, but nothing he'd done had been so clever as to stand next to Professor Newbury. Especially when the Head Girl came under a little bit of fire from a Gryffindor. But nobody acknowledged the small Ravenclaw, and for that, he was very, very grateful.
Professor Newbury dealt with the situation, and then explained what they needed to do, and Finley stayed close to the professor, waiting for people to move away a little bit. When they were moving away, Finley gently pulled on the professor's sleeve. "P-professor, please may I b-borrow a broom?" Finley asked, and once the professor agreed he picked up a broom and scurried away from the mass of people, readying himself for embarrassment that was most likely going to ensue.
Right... Finley told himself, putting his borrowed broom on the floor and standing beside it. It seemed everyone else already knew how to handle their broom, because they'd forgotten the first step. Standing next to his broom, Finley raised his right hand over it. "U-up!" He tried, trying so very hard to be firm in his instructions, but this was Finley Allen, the boy who couldn't scare a fly.
The broom merely rolled over where it led, obviously not in the mood for cooperating with Finley in that moment. With a soft sigh, Finley looked back at the others, noting the Head Girl and the Gryffindor had already succeeded in mounting their brooms and were currently hovering above the ground with ease. Looking back to his broom, Finley tried once more. "U-up!" He insisted a little more firmly this time, and the broom, slowly put surely came to his hand.
Great!
Now, mount up, leg over, Finley. Don't lose your balance... Yes, okay, we're on! Talking to himself in his head wasn't uncommon for the Ravenclaw and now he was sat astride his broom he gave a light kick off the ground. The broom moved carefully, which surprised Finley a lot. Now he was hovering, holding on firmly with both hands, bottom lip pulled between his teeth, praying to Merlin he wasn't going to fall off of the broom before the next instruction was given. |

| "Murray could you do me a huge, huge favor next game against Hufflepuff? Break that broom, it hurts the eyes!"
Josh's eyes had not moved for a moment towards the Gryffindor. He didn't acknowledge people who he had no interest in, and quite honestly, there was no reason to. The request was like asking a servant to do something for you, and the mere thought was disgusting to Josh. As if he, Josh Murray, would be running errands for anyone. Ever.
The Gryffindor got what he deserved not a moment later though when Professor Newbury put him in to place. Good. Josh simply kept his eyes forward, waiting for the Professor to explain what they would be doing. He was a little put out, for all intents and purposes when a moment later they were told to simply mount their brooms and hover.
Tucking one foot in to the foothold, Josh kicked off, hovering expertly in place. Balance was not a struggle for him, so he simply waited, not bothering to watch anyone else, because he simply wasn't interested. |

| The blonde witch cocked an eyebrow, looking with distaste at the Gryffindor boy. 'How dreadfully rude' she thought, though the witch couldn't help but send a small flicker of a smile towards Victoria. Though they barely knew each other in passing, it was clear why the brunette had gotten Head Girl; her calm temper, and she was awfully bright - Amalia had noted that from their classes together.
The blonde snapped her head back to Jake when he began to speak, and she held her broom with excellent pride between her fingers. She mounted it with a probably unnecessary flourish of grace, and with one foot snugly in the hold, she kicked off with the other.
The summers were great for Quidditch Practice, and there had barely been a week where the witch hadn't gone out flying at least once. She hovered around four feet above the ground, her hands wrapped around the shaft of her broom while she looked around her.

| After telling Finley that it was, of course, quite alright for him to borrow a broom for the school, Jake kept his eye on the Ravenclaw. Seeing as he was the youngest student, it was most likely him that would have trouble. Jake wasn't far wrong, either, it seemed as the boy did his best to keep his balance on the broom, but looked to be struggling a little bit.
The rest of the students looked to be naturals, so with a smile, Jake moved to the middle of the group. "Okay everyone, we're going to spice things up a little bit, seeing as most of you are quite competent in the air, I have a challenge for you all." Jake explained, turning slightly and flicking his wrist. Instantly, five sets of smokey rings appeared, each a different colour.
"Gabriel, you will be flying through the red circles. Victoria the pink circles. Finley, the blue circles. Josh lime green and Amalia the light green circles. They're going to test your ability - sharp turns, fierce drops, spirals, loop the loops. You name it, it's probably in there." Jake explained with a smile - though Finley's was going to stay low and not be anywhere near as difficult.
"All of you, just have some fun with it, and next lesson, I'll pick something more challenging." Jake told them, waving them off.
OOC: Basically guys, have fun, test limits, the task is yours to make of it what you will! Points will be added for more realism and creativity. ________________________________________________~ Auror ~ Profile ~ DADA Professor ~ ~ In a Relationship ~ 36 ~ Father ~ 6' ~ American Accent ~

| The longer Finley had to wait around, the harder it seemed to become to keep his broom steady. Everything magical just seemed to want to go wrong for the Ravenclaw, and he simply didn't know why this was the case. However, the boy held on to the broom, keeping it as level as he could and doing his best to listen to what Professor Newbury was telling them.
Blue circles.
Looking around, Finley noted the circles he'd been asked to fly in. His seemed to be bigger than everyone elses, but that just brought relief to the boy. Now... moving forward was going to be the next challenge to him...
Pushing forward slightly, the broom shot forward barely a foot, coming to an abrupt halt because Finley had panicked and tried to correct himself. But, it was little use to the Ravenclaw boy who seemed to struggle with even that, almost losing his balance before he hugged the broom to his chest, breathing heavily and feeling more than ready to get off.
Looking over to the professor, Finley gave him a shy smile, not daring to move from his current position. |

| Victoria was quite excited to be moving on from the simple examples of hovering to something a little more complex. True, Victoria wasn't the most gifted of flyers, but she was good enough. The Quidditch team liked her abilities enough to allow her on the team, so Victoria was quite sure she wasn't too bad.
When the instructions were given, Victoria's smile blossomed in to something much more. Her eyes twinkling with delight as a large, pink circle came in to view, and her brother explained that they were hers to work with. Okay, she probably shouldn't have been quite so excited simply for that reason, but pink was just one of those things that made Victoria excitable.
Though there was quite the list.
Leaning forward on her broom, Victoria was one of the first to streak forward once Jake was finished speaking. Way too excited to give this a go. The first ring was easy - as Victoria had expected it to be, but the second meant a sharp turn to the left that had Victoria holding on for dear life as she banked. But she managed to get around in time, pushing herself low on her broom and heading towards the next circle. This was a steep incline, Victoria pushing herself for all she was worth to show how good she could be. Careful not to lean back too far that she would end up in a loop the loop, but enough to be nearly vertical.
Her blood was pumping hard now, but Victoria pushed on, taking to the spiraling descent that had been set up for her. Which got tighter the closer it came to the ground. By the time the witch was down, Victoria felt dizzy. Very dizzy. She stopped where she was, taking some deep breaths and looking around.
Well, that was exhilarating. ________________________________________________

| The notion of what they would be doing brought a soft sigh from Josh, to him this was kids play, and not at all what he'd come here to do. Raising an eyebrow at the professor in an "are you being serious" kind of manner, Josh waited. But it seemed that he was indeed serious about this as the Head Girl sped off towards the first ring.
Sitting for a moment astride his broom, Josh contemplated what to do. He wasn't exactly a dancing monkey who was going to jump at the opportunity of performing on a whim. The Head Girl was a different matter entirely though, but such things came with that kind of person. He, frankly, wasn't interested in such things.
So he sat waiting for someone else to go first, not wanting to be so eager to please. Dragging his feet was much more Josh's style. |

| Gabriel listened to the Professor explain what they were doing next, which made him grin widely and he waited for his rings to appear. Though he'd might not fully admit it, Gabriel was basically a speed demon and got an adrenalin rush from flying.
While his broom was hovering, he reached into his pants side pocket and pulled out a pair of black goggles with his family crest on the sides "Let's go." He said slipping them on and then he bolted as fast as the broom would take him.
He went through the first ring with ease, he shot straight up to hit the next one and then rolled on his way down making it through the next and pulling up. He skimmed a few feet above the grass gaining a bit of speed before he pulled up into a loop, going through one ring and the missing the next.
He cursed below his breath and swerved to hit the ring again.
This was basically what Gabriel did, he got most of the rings for his first tries but missed a fair amount as well. He knew that he wasn't the best Quidditch player out, far from it, but he knew that as long as he went fast...he didn't really care. |

| Watching the MacKay boy hurry off, Josh merely smirked. So much like the Gryffindor to be eager to impress. Shaking his head slightly, Josh pushed forward, seeing almost everyone else head off, he felt better not being the first to go. And he didn't do it with anywhere near as much enthusiasm as the rest, he reasoned.
The first ring was a doddle, and the Quidditch Captain excelled at the first turn, to his left, low on his broom as he gained speed. The hoops took a long sweeping turn to his right afterwards, and Josh followed it with a keen eye for everyone else, making sure a collision wasn't imminent whilst completing the task at hand. Hopefully next lesson would be more interesting?
A quick dive almost caught the Slytherin out, but he managed with little and less trouble to duck beneath it not a moment later.
It was a good five minutes of diving, weaving, sharp turns, sweeping turns until finally his broom navigated towards the professor and down. It was, in fairness that Josh would never admit to, better than expected, but still much too easy for those who could play Quidditch like him. So, the Slytherin simply stood silently waiting to be dismissed with his cold gaze back in place. |

| Jake had moved to Finley the instant he saw him struggling, telling the boy to simply try the hovering to start with and they could move on next lesson. There was no way he could let the young Ravenclaw have a go at this course without him likely getting in to trouble. The relief on the younger boy's face had made Jake aware of what a good choice that had been.
Turning his attention to the rest of the group, Jake took in the capabilities of the others, nodding to himself and making mental notes for the points he would be awarding later. He'd taken the stance on not telling the kids in the lessons, because he wanted them to be here for the learning, not the prospect of points. As the hour drew to a close, Jake brought his whistle to his mouth and motioned everyone back down to the ground. "Okay everyone, well done today, there isn't as you may have guessed, any homework for this lesson, so head off and have a good week, I'll hopefully see you all next lesson!" Jake told them with a warm smile before waving them off.
