She had wanted to make a cake for his birthday, more than anything she had wanted to do for a while.

She knew people thought she was dumb, and she knew Alex tried to protect her from the world. But Anna wasn't dumb and she knew they were barely scraping by. Alex was working by day and studying by night and Anna... Didn't know how to make a cake.

She knew how to make a mess though.

He didn't seem to mind much when he found her in the kitchen though, covered in flour, only in her underwear.

"What's that?"

Alex looked up from the file.

"Work."

"I know that; what specifically?"

Alex looked at Anna curiously in that moment, he knew she wouldn't understand the mechanics of the information before him. Why she had asked, he wasn't sure. "Well... this is a portfolio of the Clements wealth-"

The man paused as Anna had just deposited herself in his lap, and was leaning forward to peer at the workings.

"It's nine hundred and forty five pages..."

"They have a lot of wealth." Alex replied, his arm snaking around her waist in the familiar setting they found themselves in.

Ivan's glare was thunderous, skulking past his brother with a shove to his shoulder much harder than he'd managed before. Andrew had followed outside without a word.

Ivan had barely made it out of earshot of their guests before he rounded on him.

"Why the fuck would you do that?"

"Alright, Ive, don't blow a fuse."

"I'm not gay!"

"There's nothing wrong with being g-"

"There's everything wrong with being gay for me. Dad would hate me more!"

"Ive... Dad doesn't hate you!"

Ivan's eyes levelled with his, daring Andrew to say that again.

And mean it.

"You're just... Soft."

Just another night, Azalea reminds herself as she enters the club well past two a.m. trying not to think of Jake whom she's left sleeping peacefully in their bed.

Another night of trying to save her friend from his own broken heart, another night of watching him fall apart because of someone else's actions.

Jacques is already past the point of caring, his eyes hazy with alcohol and grief as he spies her coming in.

"Hey handsome, mind if I take you home?" She whispers, playing the usual game.

For a second, he is deadly serious

"Please..."

"Sir, I think you've had-"

Jacques eyes turned to his aide, daring him to finish the sentence.

"What I mean to say-"

"Yer tryna tell me, 've 'ad nuff." Jacques told his aide, a firm finger pressing in to the man's chest.

"Sir-"

"Oo cares? There's nuffin left fo' me."

"Sir, I really think we should go home."

"'Ome? Where's that?"

"The Palace."

The Clement heir started to laugh, slowly to begin with, but harder as the realisation sunk in. That was not home, it hadn't been for a while now.

His aide brought his mobile to his ear.

"Jackson! Where did you put the peanut butter?"

"I haven't had it."

"Well it's not where I left it..." Victoria called back, frustratedly opening more cupboards in her path.

"It'll be here..."

"I can't see it-"

The witch cut off as her fiance reached up for the jar just above her reach, and brought it down with a funny smile on his lips. The lawyer snatched it playfully from him, turning back to the tuna melt sandwich she'd already made, ready to add the latest part of her sandwich without another word.

Pregnancy did funny things to the witch's diet.

"It's not funny, Ivan!"

"Adrienne..."

"My sundaaaaaaeeeeeeeeee!"

The child was balling her eyes out before Jake could even get himself close to her, a high pitched squeal of dissatisfaction coming from her lips as the top of her ice cream cone began to melt in to the hot summer's pavement. "It's alright darling, it's okay, we're going to get you another one, it doesn't matter."

"But, my sundaeeeee!"

"Shhh, it's alright, you can have daddy's, everything is fine!"

Adrienne considered Jake's ice cream, and then promptly took it from his hand, more than happy with the full ice cream cone.
