The blonde nodded to Zara who carefully opened the door and retrieved the ornate velvet box.

"It was her hairpin, I hope you'll consider wearing this as your something old."

Alys's tone softened. "Of course."

The light kiss on her shoulder made Elenore look up to the man in confusion, the soft brows almost meeting in the middle as she tried to understand how this could possibly make Kit...

"À présent?"

There was no reply from Kit, instead another kiss against her throat which made Elenore close her eyes.

"Mais je ne suis que dans ton t-shirt..."

"And that's exactly why." Kit replied, fingers playing at the hem of the shirt hanging from her slender frame.

The blush crept up her cheeks, but not nearly as quickly as Kit's fingers had moved up her thigh.

Translations:
À présent? -- Now?
Mais je ne suis que dans ton t-shirt -- But I'm only in your t-shirt

"You are a Clement, mon cheri," she replied in English. French would come to the young girl in time. She needed to learn something far more valuable right now. "And the Ladies of House Clement are never wrong."

Grey eyes like hers looked back at Vanessa curiously before nodding. Softly, she took the child's hand, ready to face the world.

"And your Lady Wife?"

"I'm afraid the recent arrival of our first child has caused her some trouble, so unfortunately she can't join us today." Jacques replied simply to the question he'd been posed in that moment. Not for the first time, his wife had excused herself from her duties because of their child. The fact they were now nearing two months since the arrival of their daughter didn't quite seem to have been understood.

His frustration would have to wait for another time, though, Jacques was still learning not everything in this marriage was as good as it seemed.

Kate and Madison shared a look between them, and then looked back to Elenore sceptically.

"You know that isn't something we're going to believe."

Elenore's expression didn't change, already mortified beyond belief that her friends had pushed her to explain this much about what had happened after graduation.

"Is that not good?" Elenore asked, not understanding.

"It did happen...?" Madison asked perplexed.

"I... think it was seven?"

"You understand what we're asking you, don't you? How many times did you-"

"Good morning, ladies." Kit greeted, cutting off the questions and saving Elenore any further embarrassment on the subject.

"Daddy, daddy look!" Adrienne insisted, raising her hands high above her head and then very heavily throwing them down to the piano which made quite the unsatisfactory sound of too many keys being played all at once towards the deeper end of the keys.

"Thank you for your time, Mr Newbury."

"It's the Titanic sinking, daddy!"

The younger Newbury knocked his King piece over.

"That's cheating!" Ivan whined. "Mum, Adrienne isn't playing fair!"

"Don't whinge, Ivan, you're older." Jake pointed out simply, looking away from the TV.

"I'm going to play with mum."

"ZOOM!"

The small weight of his daughter landed on Jake's midriff.

"One, two, three, you're out! I win, I win, I win!"

"You can't win everything!" Jake insisted, tickling his daughters stomach in proof that she wouldn't win this one.

"I can too!" Adrienne insisted, trying to wriggle and failing.
