Body type: Lean, and, somewhat muscular.
Dress sense: Smart, as the Clement fashion dictates.
Birthmarks: None.
Tattoos: None.

Piercings: None.

Personality

Likes:
   - Power -- he's a Clement, if you don't like power, you're in trouble!
   - Pureblood society.
   - Spending time with his parents, though, mostly his Maman.
   - Spending time with Mimosa.
   - Doing things his own way.
   - Having the option of others do things for him -- having servants, and such is a god send when you have a lot to be doing.
   - Dark Arts -- Jacques has a deep interest in the Dark Arts from a young age, but not in the manner that many people see those two words and panic. Jacques has no wish to use the Dark Arts to gain (further) power, or to wipe out entire populations. He wishes to know more about such subjects in order that he can progress this field in to something more widely accepted in society.
   - Potioneering.
   - Aiding the family in making decisions to further the line/increase influence.
   - Quidditch -- Jacques likes Quidditch, and is a very good flier. In his third year Jacques tried out for the Slytherin team and made it as the Keeper. However, Jacques noted the upset nature of the boy who'd come to be reserve behind him. Jacques gave the reserve Keeper his role, and took up the reserve position himself, playing a total of three games during the whole time he was at Hogwarts.

Dislikes:
   - Tedious activities.
   - People who try to latch on to his power/influence/name for their own gain. He is not stupid, he knows when people see only his name.
   - Idle time, if you have down time it means you're not using your time efficiently. Upon finding himself with spare time when he was at Hogwarts, Jacques set up the Student Government Club. This club was set up in order for students to be helped in to their chosen careers by making sure there were stepping stones in place. Jacques also used this time to lay down the groundwork for the privatisation of the school's Quidditch teams, helping to get funds from previous alumni to enable better equipment to be purchased.

Strengths:
   - Confident beyond his years.
   - Calculative beyond his year.
   - Has little to no fear of anything.
   - Motivated.
   - Bilingual -- (English and French).
   - Almost always gets things to a high standard the first time of asking.
   - Good at delivering speeches/public address -- this is one of the main reasons Hogwarts asked him to be the International Liaison for the school from his third year, through to his seventh year.

Weaknesses:
   - He does not take well to being told what to do.
   - Being away from home and/or his Maman (not that he'd tell anyone).
   - Despite being given all the power in France, Jacques is power hungry.
   - Not that he'd ever admit it, but he does love his little sister and would get in the way of harm for her.

Positive traits:
   - Ambitious.
   - Careful.
   - Intellectual.

Negative traits:
   - Cynical.
   - Arrogant.
   - Always has to be the dominant party in a conversation due to his upbrining.
   - Inconsiderate of some people's feelings.

Background
Jacques was born as the first child to Louis and Vanessa Clement -- the current Lord and Lady Clement of France. As the eldest child, and a male heir, from the moment Jacques was able, he was pushed to excel in any and every subject possible. The toys of normal children his age were overlooked for more complex puzzles, games carefully designed to promote logical thinking or a more tactical mind frame.

This, therefore, meant Jacques grew up very quickly, and got himself a very good understanding of the world around him. Where many children were still grasping for toys, Jacques was reading books on the world around him, soaking in the knowledge and making sure he knew what was going on in the world. This is not to say Jacques had a stiff upbringing where he couldn't be a child, of course the boy was allowed to do such things too, but his interests lay with the family first of all.

Which is why it comes as little surprise that shortly before his planned departure for Beauxbatons to follow in his parents' footsteps and a family issue raised, Jacques Clement had no problem in taking the steps to go to Hogwarts instead to aid his Maman and Papa's work.

At Hogwarts, Jacques flourished. He was popular, attractive, rich and powerful, the key to success in many schools. But, unlike many people in this situation, the boy knew how to get people onside. This led to the school board loving him completely, his peers admiring him for his work, and almost every door coming easily available to the boy.

Jacques has left a number of legacies at Hogwarts in is name:

  1. The time when he was selected for the Slytherin Quidditch Team (Keeper) as first choice, only to give up his place to the boy who'd been chosen as reserve because the other boy had been distraught. Jacques, whilst not a Quidditch hero as he could have been, was instead hailed a hero for putting other people's needs ahead of his own.

  2. In his third year, Jacques was chosen as the International Liaison for the school. This meant representing the school on an international level, or aiding with the accommodation of guests to the school, something Jacques found very easy, and thrived in. This role was held by the Clement heir until his graduation.

  3. The privatisation of the Quidditch teams at Hogwarts was built from the foundation created by Jacques. This means all of the school teams, from September 2023 will be funded by the alumni/donators of the school, and not by the school funds themselves.

Since graduating from Hogwarts, Jacques has gone on to University and continues in his work to build his name, and the family's reputation.

Family Background
The Clement family history – of the French denomination – can be traced back to the arrival of Louis Clement in 1655. Louis Clement was an English nobleman who had decided to branch from his family in England to widen the horizon’s to Europe. The Clements at this stage of their being were not well known Lords of England, whilst wealthy, they were not hugely influential in the world at this time. Louis Clement, however, wasted no time on his arrival in France to broker relationships with the largest houses in France; the Noirs, the Malfoys, the Peverells, the Lestranges, the Sounieres, the Selwyns and the Burkes.

Louis Clement married early in his arrival in France to Claudia Noir, with this marriage Louis was not only given a tidy dowry, but also the opportunity to grow his power in the country with the aid of the Noirs. In September of 1663, the Clements were gifted with their first, and only child, Thomas.

Thomas Clement was, in his early years, not a remarkable story. He was the son of a Lord – Louis Clement had worked his way in to a lower seat of the council – and had everything he could ever wish for from his parents. The boy was brought up spoiled, and self-assured, never looking twice at anyone because he believed everyone to be below him. This, however, changed when Thomas was sent to Downton Academy of Magic.

At the school – known for only admitting the wealthy children of society – Thomas met Lissette Loisel, a street rat who (in Thomas’ mind) had no right to be there. To say their relationship was turbulent would have been an understatement at best. In the late 1670’s and early 1680’s, though, things began to change in the Clement household. A ward by the name of Lissette was taken aboard, events that would change the world started to creep in to motion. The name Clement would start to be used in households big and small, the people would start to see the merits of aiding the Clements, and how the other Lords and Ladies would never act in such a manner. As the world grew colder towards the elitists of the world, the Clements grew in strength day by day, because they had one thing no one else did.

A child who understood the world, and knew how to play it to their advantage.

The Clements were, unknown to most, the reason for the French Revolution. The collapse of the Monarchy, and the Lords and Ladies of the country was funded, steered, and ultimately successful because of the Clements – or, rather, thanks to Lady Lissette Clement, the first of her name. Whilst her husband was the figure head of the whole revolution and the subsequent rebuilding of France afterwards, there could never be any doubt about who had pulled the strings throughout it all.

By the time the revolution had been finished, and stability had been restored in the country, the Clements were now the most powerful family in France. The monarchy and control by the Lords that had once existed had been crushed, but the new system still held an elitist family at the forefront of the world. The masses, though, adored the Lord and Lady Clement, so the irony of the situation was lost over many years of history.

Nine generations of Clements have followed the first post-revolution Lord and Lady Clement, and each generation has not been without it’s own accomplishments. From Popes to war heroes, complicated marriages of widowed wives to brothers new, fratricide and the incapability of bearing sons. There has never been a moment in which the Clements have not kept the hearts of the masses with their goals.

More recently, the Clements – Loras (the second of his name) and Lissette Clement – have shown the true resilience of the Clements during the World Wars. The Second World War saw the two of them learning to play with the balance of power. The Clements played no active role in the War, knowing that picking a side would be both detrimental to the country’s view of the family, and also the future of the house. Instead, Loras and Lissette did exactly as was expected of a Clement. For the French people, they showed the unfaltering resistance to the Nazi invasion, ensuring the safety of as many of their people as possible – without opening the gates to the Palace.

To the world at large, France was seen to be aiding the Allied forces in the effort to subdue the Nazi regime. However, the Clements were, in reality, funding both the Nazi movement – to ensure their own safety, should Hitler’s forces win – and the defence of the country to ensure the people still believed in them. No matter what outcome would have been seen, Loras and Lissette had ensured the safety of their name.

Or, so they had believed, on the 24th May 1940 the eldest son of the Clement house, Pierre (the second of his name) lost his life in the Siege of Calais. Hoping to aid the retreat from Arras Pierre had, in his youthful haste, not taken in to account the fact the Germans were on route to take the port, and would not leave empty handed. Pierre was caught in the fray when the German soldiers broke through the fortified city, and his surrender was not accepted by the bloodthirsty German officer. The sound of the revolver firing had echoed through the square twice before Pierre Clement’s body had hit the floor.

Since the World War, however, the Clements have aided in building France back up to it’s former glory. Lissette Clement kept hold of the reins of the country even after her husband’s passing, the new Lord and Lady Clement never, in her opinion, truly being up to the task of taking over the country.

Lord Thomas (fifth of his name) and Lady Lynnette Clement never stood up to the task of being the driving force behind the Clement's continued growth. As a second son, Thomas never truly embraced the history and complicated strategic work necessary to become a great leader. After marrying Lynnette Clement and being 'gifted' with a sickly son, Thomas' resolve to aid the family was not heightened. His wife closed herself off to try to make her only son well again, and forgot the duty of a Clement female, the duty to further the family name. The Lord and Lady Clement had a second child only under the insistence of Lissette the need for a second child.

Today, Lord Louis Clement (the fourth of his name) and the Lady Vanessa Clement (the second of her name) reside over France. Unlike their predecessors, though, the current Lord and Lady Clement aim to bring forth the collaboration of Magical and Muggle communities not only in France, but around the world. Their goal has never been greater, and their legacy grows day by day.

The Clement History

History had, and always would be, essential in the Clement family. Theirs thrived with war, violence, deceit, love and above all, power. Every child in the Clement family had been taught, from a very young age, just how important all of the above were, and could be in the future. For, if you did not know your roots, how could you possibly believe to thrive in the modern world?

Three children sat before Louis Clement, his two children among them. Jacques, and Elenore. The third, though not blood, was important still, but silent. Caramarienne Florelle was, for all intents and purposes, a Clement in all but name, and thus needed to know the history as much as his own children.

“We begin today with the start of the Clement name.” Louis began, the book in which the Clement history was explained sat open on his lap. He did not need it, he knew it all like the back of his hand. But the children might find use in the pictures as they moved on. “With a man called Louis Clement.” He started.

“But that is your name, papa.” Elenore piped up, a hint of confusion touching her features in that moment.

Louis gave his daughter a warm smile. “It is, ma douce. However, the man I speak of is Louis Clement, the first of his name. I am the fourth Louis Clement.” He explained patiently, knowing that history was never an easy topic to grasp, especially for the youngest of the three children, who was only seven at this point. “Louis Clement was an English noble, of Pureblood birth. He was a man who was struggling in England, due to changes in the economy, and such like. He decided that his fortune would fare better in France, and thus moved to Versailles.”

“To the palace?” Elenore piped up once more, excitement in her eyes.

“No, not here, he moved in to the summer house that we attend in July each year.” Louis continued, seeing the features on his daughters face change for a moment as she worked out which house that was, and then back to excitement as she listened once more. “For, at that time, he was a wealthy man, but did not have power, or wealth enough to afford the palace. It took him a number of years to gain influence in this country, being an Englishman, this was not an easy feat, as I’m sure you can all understand.

“However, in 1657, Louis managed to attain a power that he could not have bought. He had elevated himself so highly in French Court that the Noir family offered one of their younger daughters to him, for marriage. Anne Noir. You will remember, of course, that the Noir family were the early descendants of the famous Black Family that resided in England for a time?” Louis prompted, looking to his son this time, who gave a stiff nod to say he remembered. Knowing the families – no matter whether they were now wiped out was an important part of being the Clement heir, and Jacques knew them all well enough.

“The Noirs, at this point were very powerful Lords in France. They, along with the Malfoys, Peverells, Lestranges, Sounieres, Selwyns and Burkes rules over France, so Louis’ betrothal to Anne had just made him amongst the most powerful men in France. With Anne came a seat upon the council, a minor seat, but a seat no less.

“Louis had, in his mind, reached a plateau, he could only go higher if he got favour from those around him, but he could go no lower. The man was, for want of a better word, content in what he had in this moment, and therefore, his ambition to climb had faded.” Louis explained, pausing for a moment to allow all of this information to sink in.

“But that is not where the story finishes, papa?” Elenore urged, a tad impatient, but Louis knew she meant well.

“No, our story is only just beginning, ma douce.” Louis replied, turning the page on the book to show a portrait of a powerful looking man on the front. “In 1663, Thomas Clement was born to Louis and Anne. A man who’s ambition knew absolutely no boundaries. He was a man who was told he could have anything he wanted, who looked down on everyone and anyone that was not of an equal station to him. To Thomas, the world owed him everything, which is what showed him apart from his father. Now, ambition is a good thing, but Thomas’ ambitions were verging on the mad, so whilst I tell you this, I want you to take heed that you do not always come out as lucky as your great-great-great grandfather did.

“Thomas attended the best school in the country, as was fitting for Lords and Ladies at that time. But, another came to the school that… did not fit in.” Louis continued, turning the page to a portrait of a very beautiful woman. She had the air of power that came across in Thomas’ portrait, but not the arrogance. “Lissette Loisel.” Louis explained, a smile on his lips.

“Lissette was a witch who was born ‘down river’ – throughout history the exact location has been lost with translations of roads, and areas, but she was under the Noir jurisdiction at this time. For all anyone knew, the witch was not of our blood, and her and Thomas had never gotten along from the day they’d met. It was upon the second year of their schooling that Louis Clement offered Lissette a place as ward under the Clement roof. Their school life, is of course, not very entertaining, so we will skip over that part.

“By the end of the second year at the school, however, things were starting to grow ugly in the wider world. The Noirs were gaining large public opposition due to large scale crimes on the common people. People were turning up dead, beaten, or simply in fear of their life from the lords that were roaming the streets. Things were becoming very uncertain at this time, and thus, the Clements took great care in keeping the heir, and their ward safe. Their ears were to the ground, weighing up which side to take to come out on top.

“By 1676, the council members were arguing amongst themselves. They were trying to keep control of the masses. At this time, they were trying to get the Lords to form a Ministry, or a government, so that they could have better say in what was going on around them. Revolution was fast approaching the French nobles, and it threatened to dismount all of them from power. And thus, the story gets moving now.”

Taking another moment to allow this to sink in, Louis looked around the three children, and then continued once more.

“By the end of that year, Lord Patrice Noir was found floating in the river of Paris, face down, dead for a couple of days, it was said. The body was said to have been floated from Downriver due to some of the residue on his clothes. This meant that the rebellion had begun, the common people were killing the Lords, and nothing was certain anymore. He was only a minor Lord, of course, but it was a statement that the Noir family did not take lightly.

“However, at this time, it was not all doom and gloom for the Clements. A farm, Manderly Farm had problems. It was found that money was going astray from the Clement coffers, but they could not work out as to where it was going. Lissette Loisel was sent by Louis Clement to investigate this, he had faith in the witch for a reason unknown. But, it had paid off. The money that was being removed from the farm was located, and the culprits called out. Two minor Lords had been trying to undermine Louis Clement at the time, but they had been apprehended in the correct manner. But, Lissette also made sure that the common folk of Manderly were treated correctly.

“You must understand that this was an approach very few Lords took at the time. They worried for themselves and no others. So, with Lissette working to include the common folk, it set the Clements apart from all the rest.” Louis explained, checking everyone was still listening.

“Things continued in much the same manner for a few years. Except for one difference. Thomas Clement had fallen in love with Lissette, his hatred for the lower classes diminished by the caring nature of his family’s ward. He accompanied Lissette Downriver frequently, talking to the common folk, helping the common folk, and bringing them to his father’s side.

“Remember, that whilst we may be Clements, we are only who we are because of the people. Do not become a Noir, or a Malfoy, who thinks the people are of little importance. It will be your demise if you allow stupidity to hinder your ambitions.

“It was in 1680 that the Clements broke free from the council. They had gained mass popularity with the common folk, they had bought almost all of the armies in France.” Louis continued, not missing the smirk on his son’s lips in that moment. “It was at the end of that year that Thomas and Lissette married.”

“But, papa, how could he marry a girl of lower blood… it would have ruined the family name.” Elenore commented.

“Alas, my child, it would have.” Louis replied. “If not for the document of her heritage that was ‘found’ by the Clement archiver. Lissette Loisel was of Pureblood.”

“If you’ll believe that.” Jacques scoffed, looking away from his father with a scowl.

“We were not the ones that had to believe it, son.” Louis replied affectionately. “A forgery, yes, that is only known to us Clements. The lineage of Lissette Loisel was forged to make the marriage acceptable. I can assure you that every Pureblood family has done this at least once in their history.”

“But, papa, you said that Thomas and Lissette didn’t like each other, how could they marry?” Elenore asked, a confused expression on her features.

“Time, my darling, feelings can be carved with time. Most Pureblood relationships take time, only the lucky ones are in love before they’re married.” Louis explained, because his children did not need the false pretence of what would happen when they came of age to marry. But Louis pressed on.

“With the union of Thomas and Lissette, came the confidence of the common folk. They amassed in Versailles, and stormed Paris. The besieged Lyon. The captured all of France, strong hold after strong hold.” Louis explained with the help of the ancient map in the book. “Until only the Noir family was left. Surrounded by the power of Thomas and Lissette Clement. The common folk, the soldiers, they opened the gates on their masters and surrendered the Noirs to the Clement mercy-“

“Mercy.” Jacques scoffed, leaning over to the book and turning the page for his father. The page – double spread – had been crafted in to a bloody scene. “The Noirs and those stupid enough to stay loyal were mutilated, made a show of so that no one would question the Clement rule. Thomas showed no mercy on those who opposed him.”

“Very true.” Louis conceded, grimacing because he was not overly fond of the idea himself. “Thomas was not a merciful man, but, he did not need to be merciful to men of no honour. He took France, and from that day, a Clement has ruled over France. Justly. Of course, there were ups and downs, people tried to over throw the rule of Thomas and Lissette, but a union made with love can not be broken down. Many tried, believe me, but they were strong rulers. And, they had plenty of children to continue the Clement line. Seven, I believe.

“For, a Clement is only ever powerful when…”

“When they keep their family close.” The children chimed together, making Louis grin.

“Exactly. Never forget your roots, because no one will allow you to forget them.”

Louis gave one last pause. "And that, is how the Clements came to reside in the Palace of Versailles. They won their titles, they conquered their enemies, and they united the common people. It is a legacy, an unrivaled background that you must never forget. All you must do, is continue it, evolve it, and never let the name die."
